The Deciding Factor--What are you picky about?

Feb 1, 2009

    1. Well...I'm not too fond of really big eyes, fantasy-like dolls (like the ones with horns or hooves), or the younger dolls. I never really liked those.
I think the number one thing for me is its facial features and their expressions. I'm saving up for this one doll; her face is gorgeous, but she's an MSD. Her face is sort of more mature looking (which I like) and I would love to have her as an SD, but I'm willing to compromise because her face is so pretty. It might bug me a little that she's a bit shorter than I would have liked, but it's okay. :]

    2. I'd say hands, though if I can get different hands that match I'll do that. I like adult looking hands. I thought about all my other "rules" but my favorite doll breaks all of them--he has rudimentary ears, downward turning eyes and a pointy ridiculous nose. I still love him!

    3. I tend to like realistic, human-like molds, so there's plenty of features to consider =)
My dolls are mostly chosen to fit my pre-made RP characters, so I usually think of the character's most noticeable feature. It could be anything - eyeshape (e.g. for an elven char), or jawline (for some viking-styled char), or body structure, etc. If the main features fit - well, I can always mod the rest the way I need it.

    4. Joints! It's always the joints for me, that or the face,

I mean there are some dolls that im madly in love with, but its those super squar joints that look SOOO UNNATURAL, I just cring sometimes, If that sounds picky im sorry ><

    5. My deciding factor would be the dolls must be able to fit into the original doll family. I am planning to have several EIDs (saving up:)) and will not buy a doll that is too anime-like or one that is not in porpotioned to the original dolls. Oh, they have to look realistic too.

    6. First is size. I've learned that large dolls wig me out, so minis or smaller are for me ^^.

The face sculpt first....namely the eye shape. That's big for me. And the lips. I have a mental image of what I want and I look for dolls to match that. Then I look at the body and such, namely the tummy xD

    7. I cannot stand: pointy chins, extremely thin nose bridges, asymmetrical ears, and feet that are too small compared to the rest of the body. I also don't care for huge breasts or bodies that looked starved. The biggest turn-off are pointy chins. I often see gorgeous dolls whose chins make me close the page immediately. Maybe not close it immediately, but my admiration for the doll is really diminished. Even if my peeves are fixable with modding, I'd rather not have to go through it.

    8. Actually, I'm picky about mobility. I've turned down cute sculpts over not having a torso joint. Also, I don't like bodies with exaggerated shapes like the pear-shaped bodies and I am turned off by poor male 'private part' sculpts. It isn't as though I'll be photographing it or anything but if the rest of the sculpt is perfect I hate for a company to skimp on good sculpting in just that one area.

    9. My emphasis lies primarily in the eyes. I'm fond of dolls with moderate to large eyes, and the shape I'm partial to is that downturned, pseudo-sad look (Luts Kid Delf Cherry-esque). I also like small mouths with full lips (I'm very finicky--I seldom find narrow lips I like).

    10. Things I look for: face, proportions, mobility, muscles, scale
Things that turn me away from buying: eye/mouth shapes that don't leave much room for mood change (like laughing eyes), also eyes that are too far apart/too close together/too big, so the doll looks like a fish :sweat; too muscular male bodies; dolls that are out of scale (head to body), also dolls that won't fit my existing group; posability depends on character, but mostly I prefer double joints

    11. For me it's the whole face, eye shape, nose and ears. Fantasy ears are best!

Then it must be mini or smaller. Not to say I don't admire the SD sizes, they are just too big for me (but I do like lots of them lol).

Some things that I don't like are hands that are too big and big pouty lips. Other than those, I'm not too picky.

    12. When it comes down to it.... eye shape. I've thought long and hard about it, and it really is eye shape. I don't like triangle eyes, or big wide huge open anime ones. I find it hard to like the Fairyland sculpts because I really dislike the eyes. I like Migidoll's, Crobidoll's, and Souldoll's eyes because they're realistic in shape.

    13. I'm pretty picky, I must say. There are certain things I just simply do not like on a doll and would absolutely deter me from getting - huge anime eyes, tiny lips and noses when compared to the eyes, and a lot of older bodies are either not jointed at all in the torso, have huge joints (as in the balls in the ankles or the wrists) or are very childlike. I can't say that's in my aesthetic at all.

I do adore more realistic sculpts, or ones with more realistic proportions. I LOVE fantasy parts too. <3 I also love boy dolls that look like boys. XD It's pretty picky but... I find quite a few dolls that catch my fancy!

    14. Personally, I'm picky about basically everything, from noses, eye shape, mouth shape, lip size, body curvature, the size of the backside, nipple shape, breast size, moobage, etc.

Pretty much the only thing that I'm not picky about is the height of the doll, as long as it meets my pickiness in looks, size isn't an issue.

    15. Lips. The deciding factor are the lips. No matter how awsome the rest of the face/body/wtv is, if the lips don't appeal to me, it's a nono =3=

    16. Oh geez, in all honesty, I'm picky about EVERYTHING. When trying to find a sculpt for my doll, the features have to all look just right, otherwise I keep searching until I find a better match.

    17. Faceshape. I've considered so many dolls, but if the faceshape isn't right, they won't get a second look. Drives me nuts sometimes.

    18. For me, I'm picky about the face as a whole. Eyes can be big or small, etc, but the face has to be cohesive and deeply emotional. So yeah, I just need to connect with the sculpt and be able to feel the emotion. I'm also picky about body proportions at times. :P

    19. Droopy eyes, too-wide mouths or too-puffy lips, and..... NOSES. I am such a profile freak OTL

    20. It's head-size for me, and, to a lesser extent, how well that head sits on the doll's neck.

I don't like small heads, as "realistic" as they might be. Especially when those tiny little pin-heads are perched on top of very thick necks like an apple on a fence-post. That's why I'll never own an Idealian, for instance, even though I've liked a number of the face-sculpts themselves.
