Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. The Deciding Factor--What are you picky about?

Feb 1, 2009

    1. I find I am really picky about the nose. I always check a doll's profile right after I open her. There are some dolls that I have noticed straight on they look great and from the side their nose shape can drive me crazy. It may just be me and my own securities about myself!

    2. Lips and nose, nose and lips. > 3> I'm very particular about those two features. I know a lot of people just stop on the eyes, but I'm very, very peculiar when it comes to that.

    3. Hmmmm....in order, eyes, lip, chin(shade of the face), nose and ears. Funniest thing, hardly anyone mention ears, once they are under the wig its' fine but when you're changing wig, then OMG I've never notice those ears, unless yours an elf. I love gorgeous eyes and lip.

    4. Eyes are the part I am least worried about as I find those easiest to mod. It has to be cheekbones&jawline for me- I like high, defined cheekbones and a clear jawline that leads into a nice chin. It's to do with how shadows then arrange themselves across the face that makes me prefer this look. Everything else is important but normally it will be that which strikes me first.

Most of mine have ended up with an expression range of smirks, irate and perplexed looks, with a smattering of deviousness for good measure. I guess that must be a criteria for me, too x). I also dislike particular shades of skintones. Orange and reddish tans and very pink normal/whiteskins are typically out for me, with a single exception in my ns Sard.

I also prefer heads in proportion or larger than proportion to the bodies and neck. I cannot stand heads that look to small on the neck or body. Human ears I am not to concerned about, but elf ears have to look good to my eye as I like to style hair so those little points show through.

    5. I don't really look for certain things in doll, like eyes, nose and cheeks. What I look for is innocent babyish looking faces. The body doesn't really matter to me inless its weird looking like to skinny or doesn't fit well with the age of the doll. I also like pouty sad looking faces. I just think its very adorable. Thats about it. I feel that I am to picky when it comes to this but I guess I'm really not.

    6. I'm pretty picky with dolls... when it comes to them looking like kids/young people. I really dislike it. I also pay a lot of attention to the eyeshape and sometimes, even the lips (but only if there are teeth or those 'bulky' dots underneath the corners of the mouth). Another thing I'm picky about is their proportions. If they look young but are taller/bulkier than the rest, then I pass on them. And I like realistic bodies and, overall, dolls, though I don't like all of mine being too realistic when it comes to the face itself.

    7. I agree- the profile is most important to me! Two of the dolls I initially really wanted we're put in the 'never ever ever' category because of this- Soom Beryl because of her huge nose, and Dollmore Lusion Dahlia because of her weird chin. Darn.

    8. I'm very picky about the sculpt. There has to be an over all balance to the features. I prefer open, youthful faces rather then svelte, seductive ones. I don't mind over sized eyes but there has to be an over all balance to the head sculpt to compensate for them. Expression is important. I like to see a sculpt with a face up and without and I tend to go hunting for owner photos after I've picked out a doll that I like. BJD owners seem to take photos that do a much better job of showing off the best a doll has to offer and seeing with different face ups/looks the doll can carry off is very helpful.

    9. kindaa.... everything.
can't really pick ONE specific thing. too often, eye shape has been a turn off for me. the thing I like/look at the most in a face is the nose =D. if I hate the body, not buying the doll! I'm not found of pouty lips......
it's really just about the overall look :)

    10. Im open to anything and everything, but a bland face. Some dolls are beautiful, but their beauty is so formulaic! It's like they are using a checklist of conventional bishie features over and over again; there's no real variety. I've stopped buying from certain companies because their boys all look so much alike, now. It's boring!

I want striking features, and a face that has it's own individual strengths and even flaws like a big mouth, or a prominent nose. Now, that is beautiful!

    11. I think the same. =] many dolls are so beautiful and I don't even find any flaws to say the least but I'd never buy them because I don't get the "MUST HAVE" feeling. Correction...(never say never) I once bought a doll just for the sake of buying (and because he looked cute of course) but we never bonded and I sold him. So, now I try to buy only dolls that give me that strong feeling I've felt with all my other dolls.

    12. I agree so much with this! Nothing to add... Just... Thumbsup!

    13. Eyes definitely. They tell so much about the character to me. Even if a face-up changes the expression, the eyes need to right, if not I'll always feel it's wrong.

    14. My god, the eyes. Often they are too big (looks cartoony), to far appart (looks mean), to close (looks stupid), to squinty (looks tired and/or mean).. I hate it.

      Especially for boy dolls. I don't like a single boy doll, and it's always because of their stupid eyes ;__;

    15. Eyes are also extremely important to me. I prefer them to be dreamy looking but they can't be too big! and I love uniquely shaped eyes. and I love it even more if they're overly detailed, wrinkles, eyebags included.

also, HANDS. I love it when they're super detailed. I have this weird fascination for hands, and so they need to look good. They also say a lot about a person, and with dolls it's the same.

veins : very important with male dolls.

The sculpting of the collarbones !

Nicely shaped collarbones can make a doll truly beautiful!

And last but not least, this mysterious unhuman touch... Something about the sculpt must be ' off ' , I can really fall in love with a body sculpt if someting about it makes it different from those other sculpts

    16. Eyes and mouth, mostly. I don't care about the cheeks or the nose all that much, but I like the eyes and mouth to be as realistic as possible.

    17. They've got to look like my characters. There are dolls I won't ever get (like Dollshe Hounds/Bermanns) because I have no characters for them to fill. Then there are others (which Rabbit-Moon mentioned) that get one, you're done (bishounen boys). As in, I've a Soom Chrom now, don't need another Soom boy (cause they really look alike to me). I'd love an Idealian, now....

    18. for me, i love an innocent face. i don't like them sultry or sexy.
innocent and cute. slightly parted mouth and slightly sad eyes.

    19. The first thing i look on a doll are her eyes & mouth.

    20. I think for me, I tend to like the more realistic dolls. The eyes and the lips are very important, but for me to really fall in love with a sculpt they have to have something I can't quite put my finger on... It's really all about the expression. I love when they have a mysterious look in their eyes, like they know something you don't?? Maybe I'm just weird!
