1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

The Deciding Factor When Choosing a Doll - or the things that are the deal makers

Feb 25, 2015

    1. Usually, I'm trying to shell a character so it's the sculpt fitting what I need, but in the case of my mini girls, I just loved the dolls. For my Minifee, I was impressed with her poseability and loved all the clothing options out there for her. For my Doll Chateau, I fell in love with her face and delicate limbs.

When deciding to buy, I go through these questions:
-Does the sculpt fit the character?
-Does it look good from various angles?
      -Is the body attractive?
-Does it pose well straight out of the box without modifications? Can it do more than sit or stand, like touch the face, hug its knees to its chest, crouch, slouch, move its arms in natural poses?
-Can I easily find or make clothing for this doll? (sometimes I bend on this one *Looking at you nYID boy* )
-Is the doll good quality in engineering, resin and proportions?
-Does it come in the right color for the character?
-Is the size right to fit in my collection?
-Is it coming from a reliable company, dealer or secondhand seller?

If I'm buying secondhand, there are even more questions:
-Does the seller have good feedback and free of any negative or flaky transactions?
      -Does the doll look clean?
-Are there damages or yellowing and if so, is it an acceptable amount for the price?
-Is it a smoke free home?
-Are they able to ship within a reasonable amount of time?
-Do they have several clear pictures of the doll? Do they show the doll nude and without a wig?
-Can they tell me where the doll came from?

    2. Posing, and also if it looks like the character I want to shell. The head sculpt is a big part of that.

    3. Definitely posing for me. I want to know that my doll can do a number of different looks and poses. One of my biggest regrets about my Zenith's sculpt is that his neck isn't created for him to look upward very well, and his knees don't bend into kneeling-sit positions. I didn't know these things when I ordered him. (Still love him to death though, of course.)

I also look at the aesthetics of the doll body. With head sculpts I'm not so picky, because I've seen slightly unsightly doll faces turn out absolutely gorgeous with the right faceups. But if the body looks lumpy, stumpy, too bizarre for my tastes, etc, then I won't go with it.

I also like to check out the detail and joints of the dolls. If the joints look a little weird bent, I'm turned off by it. If the doll is too "flat," as in not enough detail on the body, I also won't really enjoy it as much. I like it when dolls look realistic, especially through the arms, legs, and joints. I know it's a stretch saying ball joints should look realistic, but as long as they're aesthetically pleasing and not so pronounced that they draw the eye away from the rest of the doll, then they're good enough for me.

    4. As much as possible I try to avoid hybrids. I don't mind if it takes a really long time to look for the one I like 100%
I already have a certain face vibe / height / body build in mind before I purchase.

    5. I look at the face sculpts, and then the body. It was how I fell in love with my grail--Soom's Sweet Witch. Posing is another issue entirely, but I don't mind if my dolls just sit for a while before I move them. Secondhand buys (nearly all of mine) need to have decent feedback, and up to date photos of the doll in question.
