The dolls you gave up

Dec 10, 2009

    1. I think I would love to keep track of my doll if I ever sold him, which I am contemplating doing for there is another doll I yearn stronger for... it'd be sort of like giving your child up for adoption. You can't care for them any longer, but you still love them because they're your baby. c:

    2. YOu´re welcome. And thanks everyone for the answers, it´s really interesting to read :) Keep it up :)

    3. When you sell a doll, do you keep track of it? Do you look at the photos new owner posts? If yes, how does it make you feel?
hmm.. I guess I'd want too? Because I'd be curious as to what happens to it after it goes to a new place. Yes, I'd definately look at the photos. I'd probably wonder if i can or would have gotten it to look like that :)

Have you ever stayed in contact with the person who bought your doll to ask him how he/she is doing?
hmmm... nope i didn't stay in contact. I don't know what to say ehh ..

When buying dolls from marketplace, does it make you nervous, changing its looks and character with regard to the previous owner?
nope, I don't feel nervous. after all, once a doll is sold, it belongs to that person . Right?

    4. if i were to ever sell one of my mods that i put alot of work in to, i would probably be interested in keeping track or looking at photos, yeah, cause i think it would be neat seeing some one have fun with some thing ive some what "created" and how they build the character of that doll.

    5. When you sell a doll, do you keep track of it? Do you look at the photos new owner posts? If yes, how does it make you feel?

When I sold my first doll I tried checking to see what the new owner had done with him, but they don't take pictures of there doll. All the other dolls that I've sold after that, four in total, have been spilt and sent all over the world. So who knows where they are now.

Have you ever stayed in contact with the person who bought your doll to ask him how he/she is doing?

No, I stay in contact witht he person until the doll gets to its new destination. After that I don't say anything to them.

When buying dolls from marketplace, does it make you nervous, changing its looks and character with regard to the previous owner?

I try to look for dolls with face-ups that already fit the character that I had in mind or I get my dolls blank. Now that I think about I've never had to had a dolls face-up wiped before.

    6. When you sell a doll, do you keep track of it? Do you look at the photos new owner posts? If yes, how does it make you feel?

NO! I've had the new owner send a pic before to show his/her new home, but other than that I would not want to see 'my' doll and neither would I track it down.

Have you ever stayed in contact with the person who bought your doll to ask him how he/she is doing?

NO! I believe once the sale is made, I don't have any right to do this - IMO, doing so might make the new owner feel like it wasn't completely their doll and may interefere with bonding.

When buying dolls from marketplace, does it make you nervous, changing its looks and character with regard to the previous owner?

I've had this feeling once with a recent doll who was gorgeous, but I just wanted to tweak him here and there - face-uppery is a tricky business and I ended up having to remove everything and start again. When I redid his face-up, I kept some of the style of his previous owners face up (unusual eyebrow shape) and whenever I posted pics of him, I gave credit to his previous owner for this.

    7. When you sell a doll, do you keep track of it? Do you look at the photos new owner posts? If yes, how does it make you feel?

No I don't, almost all the dolls I've sold, I've never seen again..it would be nice to see them, but the new owner may have changed the faceup and then I wouldn't recognize them anyway .

Have you ever stayed in contact with the person who bought your doll to ask him how he/she is doing?
yes, and then I had to ask to buy her back..lol long story but mostly no..its just a doll

When buying dolls from marketplace, does it make you nervous, changing its looks and character with regard to the previous owner?
um no, its my doll now..

    8. Sometimes I take a look at what people have done with dolls I sold because I'm curious what the person did with the doll. I don't have an emotional investment in it, particularly, but usually if I owned a sculpt it's because I like it and think it has potential, so I take an interest in what people do with that sculpt.

I don't keep in contact with people or worry if I change a doll I bought secondhand -- it's my doll, I paid for it, if the previous owner wanted a say in what happened to it they should have kept it. I've sold one doll whose faceup I preferred not be wiped, because it was a very nice and very new faceup by an artist who is no longer active, so I sold that doll to someone who appreciated the faceup. At the same time, I accept that I have no control over what happens to that doll and its faceup. I'm glad the new owner didn't change it but she can do whatever she wants.

    9. When you sell a doll, do you keep track of it? Do you look at the photos new owner posts? If yes, how does it make you feel? (I´d also like to hear particular sories, if it ever made you sad what the previous owner did with the doll or at the other hand, happy).

I have sold other dolls, but not bjd's...the reason those dolls were sold was to finance the bjds..lol. i would be curious as to what they did with the doll, but don't keep track of them...
Have you ever stayed in contact with the person who bought your doll to ask him how he/she is doing?

      No.

When buying dolls from marketplace, does it make you nervous, changing its looks and character with regard to the previous owner?

No, usually I know especially with my fashion dolls, that the doll will be repainted, rerooted, etc. Usually when I sell a doll, I'm not that partial to it, and I'm always curious to see what the new owner will do as far as customizing them.

    10. When you sell a doll, do you keep track of it? Do you look at the photos new owner posts? If yes, how does it make you feel? (I´d also like to hear particular sories, if it ever made you sad what the previous owner did with the doll or at the other hand, happy).

I tried to, but she doesn't post much. It doesn't make me sad because I know Lily and Crystal are taken much better care of in their new home because I never paid attention to them, and never spoiled them with anything new like I did the others.

Have you ever stayed in contact with the person who bought your doll to ask him how he/she is doing?

I tried that, but I did send a Christmas Card just to say hi and thanks again for buying them as a set. I couldn't split the sisters up!

When buying dolls from marketplace, does it make you nervous, changing its looks and character with regard to the previous owner?

Not really, considering most the ones I buy are usually, 'has been in a box' or 'just sits on a shelf, not really played with'. Because those are the ones I think need the most rescue and love. :3

    11. When you sell a doll, do you keep track of it? Do you look at the photos new owner posts? If yes, how does it make you feel?
I have with a few. I've actually stumbled onto my past dolls before, and it's been both exciting and sad, since it's been a few years. There are a couple dolls I regret selling.

Have you ever stayed in contact with the person who bought your doll to ask him how he/she is doing?
No, I haven't. I'm afraid of seeming like a creeper.

When buying dolls from marketplace, does it make you nervous, changing its looks and character with regard to the previous owner?
Not at all. I think the only way this would be an issue would be if the doll had a particularly seductive or dramatic faceup. Then I would have it repainted, or would have purchased it to fit this sort of character. So in short: no.

    12. When you sell a doll, do you keep track of it? Do you look at the photos new owner posts? If yes, how does it make you feel? I try to, yeah. And I LOVE seeing the photo's they post! :)

Have you ever stayed in contact with the person who bought your doll to ask him how he/she is doing?
I very recently sold my first doll, and I do think that I will keep in contact.

When buying dolls from marketplace, does it make you nervous, changing its looks and character with regard to the previous owner?
I wouldn't think so, personally. The doll is yours now, do with it what you want.

    13. When you sell a doll, do you keep track of it? Do you look at the photos new owner posts? If yes, how does it make you feel?
Nope. I sold my Soom namu and didn't really care one way or another about it. (He was a nice doll, would have kept him if i could have, but any soom namu would be just as good to me as that one). I also sold a Unoa Lusis, and i was gutted about it. I wouldn't want to follow up on her whereabouts because it would make me sad. She was my first doll, and I had to sell her due to bad life circumstances.

Have you ever stayed in contact with the person who bought your doll to ask him how he/she is doing?

Nope. I'm sure whoever bought them likes and appriciates them as much as I did.

When buying dolls from marketplace, does it make you nervous, changing its looks and character with regard to the previous owner?

No... but i might totally buy a doll because I like the charachter and styling that the previous owner had.

    14. Of the dolls I've sold, most of them have gone to friends of mine, and the ones that didn't I have no idea what happened to them after that. Nor do I have any interest. They're gone and that's that.

The local ones throw me for a loop sometimes, but fortunately no one minds if I accidentally call one of them by its old name.

As for the dolls I've purchased myself, I've never had their former owners show an interest, nor would I wish to, as I tend to change them completely.

I do pay far more attention to dolls I've faceupped, though. It's interesting to see what their owners are doing with them now that they have faces. :)

    15. When you sell a doll, do you keep track of it? Do you look at the photos new owner posts? If yes, how does it make you feel?
Considering that I'm in the process of being a first-time seller... I'd like to keep track of the doll to a point. I don't want to stalk the buyer's home page or galleries or anything like that, but I'd definitely be curious to know what happened to the doll after it left my hands. I wouldn't really care what the buyer would do with the doll, I just want whomever buys it to be able to have fun with it.

Have you ever stayed in contact with the person who bought your doll to ask him how he/she is doing?
Not sold the doll yet, but if the new owner wanted to stay in contact with me, that'd be cool. I still stay in some contact with the people I bought from, so it's all good.

Then buying dolls from marketplace, does it make you nervous, changing its looks and character with regard to the previous owner?
Again, to a point. The first time I bought from an owner, I was nervous about changing his character (though I ended up not changing his looks), but she was pretty cool about it and I eventually just did what I wanted. I didn't have any problems with my next doll, though I feel bad about some of the damage he's sustained (due to accidents and cats).

    16. I don't seek out the dolls I've sold, though I often wish I did. My friends who buy my dolls post photos on occasion which I like to see, but my time on the forums is really sporadic, so I don't tend to spend my time trying to find my old buyers. If I come across them, it is nice to see though :) if I let a doll go I always hope it is to someone who has a better vision and more attention to devote to it than I have. I look forward to seeing what they do with it.

    17. When you sell a doll, do you keep track of it? Do you look at the photos new owner posts? If yes, how does it make you feel?
(I´d also like to hear particular sories, if it ever made you sad what the previous owner did with the doll or at the other hand, happy).

Well, I sold 4 dolls in 09'. It was my first time selling & parting with
any of my BJD's but it was fairly pain-free. The first doll I sold was
my Pipos Crown Rooney and it was a nice experience because the
buyer had been looking for her for quite a while, so I was happy
to "help" in that way. Unfortunately I found out (by accident) that
another doll I sold was re-sold a few weeks later. I suppose it's
something that we have to be aware could happen, but it still made
      me very very sad.

Have you ever stayed in contact with the person who bought your doll to ask him how he/she is doing?

No. It sort of seems like an intrusion (?) and I'm not the pushy type :sweat
When it comes down to it they are just dolls...if I had found homes for
any living creatures of mine, then, yes I would contact the new owner
to see how everything was and for some peace of mind :aheartbea

When buying dolls from marketplace, does it make you nervous, changing its looks and character with regard to the previous owner?

I've only purchased a head in the MP, but no I haven't changed it's
faceup, yet. Unless what drew you to buy the doll was the overall
look/character of it there's no reason to worry about changing it
for the sake of it's previous "life". Are you going to ask the seller
what the dolls name is and keep that as well? Sorry, that's just
      my opinion ;)

    18. When you sell a doll, do you keep track of it? Do you look at the photos new owner posts? If yes, how does it make you feel?
I have not, don't really think I would. I have had people with non-bjd doll deals, email me later and show me what they've done and it was cool though. I like to see when they're just recieved and the buyer really adores them. Generally I'm content to think that I who did not hold affection for the doll anymore, have sent them off where they will potentially find someone to appreciate them more. It's a nice feeling.

Have you ever stayed in contact with the person who bought your doll to ask him how he/she is doing?
No I haven't. I wouldn't mind keeping in contact perhaps but I wouldn't check up on them past the initial arrival to make sure everything was fine etc. Although I do often let them know that if they want to share pictures I don't mind seeing their dolls in general ;D

When buying dolls from marketplace, does it make you nervous, changing its looks and character with regard to the previous owner?
Nope. If it meant that much to them they wouldn't be selling it basically. If it's an 'emergency' sale then that's unfortunate but once something is purchased by me, it's MINE and I'll do want I want with the doll. I expect the same with dolls I've sold.

    19. I see one of mine fairly frequently -- he was a Tanned Hound I sold to Beach Girl Nikita, and he models for her... a LOT!! I don't really miss him so much, but I do miss some of the 70cm clothes I sold off later on.

The only ones I really do miss are my DM Mellow Cole, my WS DM Kyle. Considering how many have "paused" briefly with me, that's actually a pretty low percentage. Elfdoll Mir and IH Aaron *almost* make it onto the list, but I'm OK without them (permanently, if need be). Replacement Mellow is the next doll I'm ordering this year, and I'll be happy with a NS Kyle someday too, so I can live with how that's working out.

As for keeping track of them, I only see Hound because I buy from BGN frequently and we're on another doll board together. I don't even remember who most of my sold dolls have gone off to, but I'm sure their new families love them. :aheartbea

If you bought a doll from me, keep him/her happy!

    20. Oooooo I have found myself on this thead :) Miyabi I bought your Ducan, I've never sold any dolls before although I did recently put one of my boys up for sale on the market place although I now have decide to keep him and he has had a total make over and looking great.
But yeah I have bought a few dolls 2nd hand off the marketplace and I do like to see what they looked like before I bought them so sometimes I have hunted around to see if I can find them, anyway I thought you might like to see a piccie of what he is looking like now he lives with me -

The photo was taken at a meet a few weeks ago he still has all his piercings I LOVE them, when he arrived I gave him a clean before he was restung and reglued the ones on his ears and lips back on as they had gotten alittle lose. He has a new black wig the one he came with now belongs to anotherone of my boys and I've stitched dreads onto it XD
