1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

The Dollshe side of the Dollshe/Dollmore copy issue *translated statement page 27*

Nov 21, 2006

    1. Thank you- I know, I am not worried about any vengeance being directed towards Banjis ^_^, just not sure how I feel about ordering from them at this point in time. I wonder if this issue might be affecting their current doll-making/ordering/shipping processes in any way.

    2. The bottom photo is a comparision of the 'bump' in the head cavity. All I'm not sure of is where the top photo is supposed to be.

I could check at least Sai's brainpan once I get home...I'd just have to repack him afterwards. Annoying, but not horrible.

    3. "Also, yes, someone needs to take a peek inside their Dollshe boy to see if he has the "imperfections." After looking at PamSD's comparison shots . . . I think it's just so strange that the dolls look so different from the outside. But on the inside, yes, the evidence is there. And I'm not distrusting Mr. Dollshe's word or photos, but I wonder if we can find the same evidence in our own dolls that he has presented"

All of my dolls are packed up in their boxes right now due to a massive re-flooring project we are doing. If they weren't I'd be pulling on of my boys apart just to check for these markings.

I am hoping that someone can do this for us, and that Pam will do the same with her Kyle. I would be much more inclined to honor what is discovered by owners photos, rather than photos which are trying to prove a point by one side of the argument.

    4. I am glad you wouldn't frown at me for buying from dollmore. I bought kyle WAY before this was annouced to me and I yet wait to receive him and my order cannot be cancelled. I feel cheated in a way, if this is true. I just bought a doll that only has been modified, I paid alot of $$$ for a unique doll, a piece of art from really talented people... but it's not ...it's a copy but modified. That takes out the uniqueness of a doll if you ask me. I am really confused here.

I am very happy you would not frown on me, Rukawagf. IT MEANS ALOT TO ME! ...thank you rukawagf....I hope everyone else in the community feels that way too.

    5. FWIW, I've just had a look inside my Marius (WS Hound, purchased last December), and he has the mold markings. However it's after dark here (5:45pm in the UK) so the lighting isn't good enough for me to photograph them this evening. I shall do my best to get as clear shots of the mold markings as possible and post them up here tomorrow.

If any Model-M owners could do the same with their dolls, this would probably help a great deal. Likewise other Dollshe owners; that way we could establish whether the mold markings are on the original master form, or only one particular batch of molds - and we'd have some idea as to when the original copy-casting may have taken place.

    6. Sounds like a plan. :)

I look forward to seeing these pictures....

    7. It's late enough in the thread that this will probably be ignored, but...
Ya know, I don't understand the "shunning" of any doll, including those found to be copies in a court of law, and here's why. When the court case is settled in favor of the original maker, they are (in the US) awarded the lost money caused by the infringement + usually a very large statuatory damage. (It can be up to $100,000 per item in the US). In other words, the original company has been paid for the user of their intellectual property. Also, the original company could request a buy-back of all the infringing dolls if they wished. Once it's been settled, the infringing dolls have been randsomed. It's been settled between the companies, and I don't see why the individual owners should suffer. I really don't see why they should be banned from discussion, and jumping on people who try to resell them is really really not cool.

    8. The doll is still a great doll, though. If it's true, just look at it as more people were involved than you initially expected :)

    9. Jinnayah, I am happy you understand!:aheartbea

SaiBySai, *lol* True, thanks for cheering me up!:aheartbea

I am glad people in the community in den of angels are forgiving to other owners, and are full of great people! And I am glad we are looking at for eachother on what's a copy what is not. Everyone should have the right to know what they are spending their $$$ on.

Well, I hope this argument between the companies settle soon. I wish only the best for them and I hope dollmore changes their work ethics in the future. (If this is true) :aheartbea

    10. Thank you for this. US law on derivative works is very unclear, and caselaw has been largely in favor of the original copyright holder. I don't know how this 30% misconception got around, but if people are using it and expecting it to hold up in a court...

    11. well..... i'm SURE they got lawyers. and lawyers should know their law ^^;;;;

    12. I'm talking about forum users and people in general - a lawyer would knock that idea out of your head in a second, but if someone here is taking, say, a story they like, changing 30% of it, and trying to get it published...things can get really nasty, really fast. (I've seen it happen when I was still the editor on a small fiction magazine - NOT pretty!)

    13. well that's because right now it's in speculation stage. i think all THAT can be resolved once the court says something. ^^;;;

    14. Hey! If anyone wants to resell their Kyle because they feel uncomfortable owning a copy... I'LL TAKE IT ;DDDD

    15. unrealated but just to get a little perspective, didn't someone on this board make and sell a cat head which used another companys head as a base? (completly unrecognisable after of course) I don't remember reading anyone compalining about that (they may have done but I never saw it)

maybe I'm just 'numbed' because of my art and craft experiance but I've seen things that were a lot more similar and obviously coppied (heck theres even proof that Amy Brown traces other people) and no one bats an eyelid

for me the sculpt and descriptions (of improved posability etc) are enough to squash any moral objections I might have, my only dilema now is if I should borrow a little cash to buy one now incase they stop making them or not

    16. I was reminded of that as well. Yes they made the head by sanding down an Obitsu head and adding on the cat features.
I guess the main difference is that they stated that they made it that way.

    17. That was Ashbet, who made the Mau head. At no point did she produce the head as a commercial venture and claim it was anything other than it was, and she was completely open about the whole process from start to finish - unlike this situation, in which the body in question is claimed by Dollmore to be entirely their own work.

The mods have already stated (in the DZ vs Yukinojo thread) that the Mau head is not considered to be an issue for that reason.

    18. It was Mau (I THINK) and I also believe before the head was sold she was completely remodeled without the use of another head for a base.
Can't quote me on that though. I swear I read it somewhere >.>

    19. Arkady I hope you don't think I trying to bash Ashbet!

I would also like to see some owner photos of the inside imperfections. I feel like that's going to be the deciding factor. I really don't think that it's a coincidence that they have the same marks.
I don't think the hands were copied, they look much different in owner pictures. I wonder why they look so similar in Mr Dollshe's photos?

    20. The point about Mau, I think, is that the maker has been honest about it.
It's like essay writing, one can quote a whole paragraph of someone's exact words but one has to make it clear in the footnote and bibliography
