becuase the production technique could explain how the markings got on the inside of the dolls.

It could be caused by a chemical reaction at certain points, by the moulds, or it could ahve been a deliberate plant to prevent copying.

Understanding how the doll is made will help prove either for or against in this case.

Two things - one, US copyright law says nothing of the sort. The "rules" on a derivative work are not nearly that clean-cut. Copyright.gov illustrates that fairly clearly. Two - US Copyright doesn't apply in this case anyway.

I'm not taking sides in this - I don't have enough of the facts. But US Copyright law is one of my specialties, so I felt compelled to open my mouth there. ^_^

 

From what i'm reading, (more like from what i'm understanding ^^:;; wow i'm terrible in chem korean man...) it looks like all dollshe supports are saying even with chemical reactions and scientific answers, you can NOT explain those exact same shape, mold and places where those unfinished molds or holes appear in the INSIDE of the bodies

anyways. from what i do know, of how little i do know of resins, you can sculpt it on top, bake it to make the origional mold and cast it several times? it does sound possible to copy dollshe's body's origional mold and add putti on top to try to change it. again, i don't understand the scientific terminology so ....

i need dictionary to do exact translations probably. than someone who knows a LOT about resin casting to tell us if it's possible or not? damn this is gonna be really tedious...

Is Mr. Dollshe planning to take this to court? Or is he just going to resolve this by appealing to the fans? He seems to have been ignored by the Dollmore CEO from my understanding... I guess it's wisest to take it to court... but then again it depends on Korean law. I really hope this gets settled and given the appropriate verdict. ><

MAKING RESIN DOLLS

Resins are 2 part formulas of pourable plastics which cure into hard and relatively stable objects. Resin figures are initially sculpted in any media. A mold is made from this model and resin is poured into molds. After curing, the parts are removed, cleaned, painted, assembled and dressed.

Original models are sculpted any material: polyclay, wood, wax, earth clay, oil clay, etc. Some oil clays have a high sulfur content that can react with the RTV silicone mold making materials, so these oil clay models are first sealed to avoid direct contact with the mold making material or sulfur-based oil clay is avoided completely.

The molds are usually RTV (room temperature vulcanized) silicone material, but a slower, less expensive brush on latex mold material can also be used. Newer mold materials are being developed.

Resins are 2 part formulas of pourable plastics: a base and a catalyst. Common resin bases are urethanes, and epoxy. Many different colorants are used to change the color and opacity of the resins. Filler materials are added to extend the plastics with less expensive materials, or modify the plastic's qualities: opacity, texture, hardness, machineability, weight, and etc. Some common filler materials are: porcelain dust ("cold cast porcelain"), gypsum, marble dust ("cast marble"), and saw dust ("pourable wood", "formed wood", or "cast wood")

i saw those body comparision shots and i can't say nothing but they are copies. personally because dollmore had so many cute babies, i was very interstested but now i'm very disappointed. looks like this board needs some organization as well.

 

From what I grasp of the casting process, they would have had to cast the body part and then done a separate caste of the inside to create the correct sized piece that will make the body hollow. That way, the defects would transfer to the "core" and thus the marks would end up in the resin (until the core is fixed so there are no defects).

These are NOT copies! I have majored in chemistry in college and my job deals with chemicalls all the time. I saw the pictures at denofangel, Bi-shop, and Phomael. BJD's material and _____ is similar but ____(some chemical)__ and ____ some engeneering word____ angeled holes? saying that these are copies are too forced. If you know anything about resin, at least 1%, you'd know what i mean!!
