The Eyes have it!

Oct 20, 2014

    1. I go through 2-3 pairs until I find the right ones usually. When I'm trying to determine color and/or size, I'll buy a pair of cheaper acrylic or glass eyes. These tend to be "placeholders" until the actual eyes come in. I love urethane eyes and have had great luck with them, so that's typically what my dolls end up with :)

    2. With my kid delf girl, I always end up going back to her defaults. I've tried so many already, but they just never measure up. >< The funny thing is, they don't even match the look I had originally planned for her (dark brownish red, really?), but somehow, they just suit her. I like that they are glass as well. I guess I should just give up lol. The person who picked them for me, obviously knows what he or she was doing

    3. Whenever i order a doll, I think about what I would want for him/her and sometimes I order some eyes that I might like.
And the ones that don't fit end up in a spare-box, so I always have some eyes in case of emergency :)

I'm not too picky of dolleyes, as long as they fit the character.
Most of my dolls have acrylic eyes from dollmore. I just love they way the eyes catch the light :)
I once managed to buy a gorgeous pair of acrylics at a local dollfair, for like 2€, and since that moment, they haven't left my doll.

I like the looks of the really expensive eyes, like urethane etc, but just can't get myself to spending so much money on just eyes. But maybe that will change one day when I see the perfect eyes for one of my dolls :)

    4. I have never tried urethane yes, although I have seen some ally pretty looking ones, but the old doll collector in me says glass is always best.

    5. Oh eyes, first when I started the hobby I looked at glass and acrylic eyes. I wasn't a big fan of acrylic and heard glass were a lot better with light, I bought a pair of glass eyes. For some reason they weren't as lovely as I imagined... That's when i came across Urethane eyes, I'm never going back to glass.
It all depends on your personal taste ofcourse, I get why people like acrylic and glass but on my dolls I really prefer urethane. ^-^

Sizing can be very difficult... as a newbie I thought "oh on the company's website it is stated that they use 16mm, so i need to buy 16mm" without thinking about the possibility that I can use other measurements as well. I would have preferred (afterwards) using 14mm instead of 16mm, but the colour and model of the eye works perfect with my doll.

In total I tried two pairs of eyes in total (without counting her default eyes)

    6. i was hunting for the right purple eyes , i tried 6 or 7 pairs of acylic eyes before i saw a pair of glass ones that i knew were just what i was looking for , Ginarolo eyes are to die for

    7. I like different things for different dolls. My Pipos Cheshire cats have fantasy eyes: Oscardoll bling eyes, one has teal and clear crystal, the other has blue, they are acrylic. My Iplehouse Carina has Ersa Flora metallic sienna acrylic eyes. My Elfdoll Mir has chocolate brown Eyecos, which are silicone. My Sooah elfdoll has brilliant purple glass. My Iplehouse Kamau has Enchanted doll eyes, emerald green urethane. I just keep trying eyes until I find some that suit them. What else can you do?

    8. I seem to have a weakness for eyes, blue-green ones in particular. I have a whole bag of 'em, from 12mm-18mm. Most are 14 & 16mm. Though, once I've found the right eyes for a doll, they don't change. Once the eye color is "set" for me, I can't see them wearing anything else. I might change position, but that's it. My favorites are the Hand Glass Craft D400s. Safrindoll sells 'em and Ginarolo here on DOA offers 'em on her sales thread. They photograph nicely and are stunningly detailed in person.

I'm not an old doll collector, but knowing that glass is proven not to change color over time, I have a preference for them. But DollBakery has these eyes in this gorgeous Pancakes color that are tempting.

    9. I have been lucky to find perfect eyes for my dolls. I like realistic looking eyes, even if the color is not realistic. Wigs are a different matter.

    10. @ Leo
Those pancakes look beautiful. Great depth.
