1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

The Government Dolls - What do you do with YOUR Tax Return?

Jan 25, 2012

    1. I hope that I get something back (waiting on one w-2) and if that happens not so much getting a doll but there are two outfits I have been wanting for over a year now and I plan to get them. I also might consider getting a floating head of mine a body but that is still up in the air LOL.

    2. Mine is going to pay off two credit cards. This year I got the most back I ever got! The last two I had to pay because of that stupid making work pay credit. Everyone else got that money, I had to return it! I have however bought dolls with it.

    3. We do in Australia, but our filing starts from July until October if I remember correctly.

I never feel anymore guilty about spending tax return money than my usual paycheck money - to me it's one and the same :) Some of it went to doll things, some of it went towards another car since the first died unexpectedly. I'd like to have spent the lot on dollies though!

    4. As DINKs, my husband and I don't get a very big tax return. Last year I think it was just about $300. This year might be better since he's been paying off his student loans (deductible) but other than that we might make too much money now to get a decent return.

In a different vein though, I've got a large company bonus that came through :) So I spent that money on Soom bronze Amber, who I call my "Bonus Doll"

    5. I have no idea if I'll get one this year, since it's my first year having a real job. (I had a job as a student previously.) I'll probably be happy as long as I don't have to pay money. I've had to pay $2000 in the past, and it was sickening - I wish I could have had the money taken out of the checks instead of paying it all at once. If I do luck out and get a big return, I'll probably put it toward a camera. I've been considering getting a new camera - actually, whether I get a refund or not will likely determine if I get the camera at all. It will be used for taking doll pics, so it's still BJD related.

    6. I just used part of my return to get my very first doll today, and while I feel excited and happy now, I had to work up a lot of nerve to actually order him and went through a short period of feeling guilty, lol. But I pay bills and I got the new clothes I needed so...I figure a little splurging is okay.

    7. I have bought ALL my dolls with my tax returns. XD Its the one time I have enough money all at one time to buy anything so I usually split it in half and put part in paypal to buy dolls and their accoutrements, and use the other half for stuff like bills or repairing my car. This year half goes towards replacing the windshield that is cracked, and the other half is going towards dolls, since I want an SD now, who will need eyes, wig, clothes, and I need shoes for one of my MSD's.

    8. I feel like this a lot. I mean, I pay bills, I keep myself out of debt, I keep food on the table, I am putting myself through school. I should deserve something nice, right?!

...Only a part of me keeps giving me a frowny face over that attitude and saying, "Yes, but what if something goes wrong? You'll feel bad for having spent that money when you could have saved!"

Really, though, I think I am going to try and put away some of that money for a doll. Admittedly she's going to be pretty naked for a while because I don't think I can afford eyes/wig/faceup supplies, but the doll is always the most expensive part!

    9. I got my first doll with my tax returns. I believe I got another, at least partly, with my tax returns too. I think this year it's the same plan. Money's always tight for me my second semester at school so it's kind of nice to be able to get myself a little present when I'm not spending any money on myself otherwise.

    10. If I recieve enough in my tax returns I will be buying a body for my one and only floating head, she is my "final" doll (everyone knows thats a blatant lie when it comes to this hobby XD) the rest will go to rent unfortunately (DONT MOVE INTO A HOUSE WITH FRIENDS UNTIL YOU KNOW ITLL WORK OUT!!!)

    11. lol every year for the past 3 years it goes to dolls! this year its my final sard layaway payment, last year it was chalco.. before that i think it was heliot? man theres a bad soom trend going.. my refund is never a significant amount (i think this time is should be 100-200) so I dont really feel guilty spending that on my luxuries :)

    12. I have no idea how much I'll be getting back in taxes this year. I haven't gotten my T4 slips yet. I think most of it I would put into savings.... but I do have some things I want, and I'll be putting a DZ Anson on layaway...so maybe I'll use it on that! Otherwise, well I really do want a Bisou from fairyland.

    13. I usually get a new doll with tax money every year (as a really nice Valentine's and birthday gift) but I think this may be the first year I'm not getting a doll. I've been eyeballing a really nice lens and really nice flash that I've been wanting for a while and if a doll doesn't catch my fancy I might be ordering camera goods.

    14. I have no idea how much I'm going to be getting, since this is my first year as an independent, having to file for myself -- the last few years it's been my parent's claiming me. But, I will be using any and all tax return money for paying off existing debt.

However, I am getting a school refund check, which, half of it will be going to the Fairyland sale order I recently placed. Other half going with the tax return into that debt I mentioned.

    15. Last year my whole return went to car repairs. This time... I AM GETTING MY DOLL. Grrr... I just have to wait until the end of February or beginning of March for my W-2 forms to come in, and then make my filing appointment. I'm going to make myself feel better about the way the year has started by buying a new doll. XP

    16. I don't get this "government dolls" mentality-- tax returns is what you get returned to you because you paid more income taxes deducted from your payroll than you should have, when extra factors are included. It's your money that you earned with your work, not the government's.

The only time I've gotten returns was last year, and that was just 80€ (normally I've had to pay 60-80€ instead of getting returns, with some 14-17% deduced each month for income taxes), so frankly I've never considered it a source of income for hobbies or otherwise. My two extra pays a year are ~1000€, to have a comparison, and I don't usually get excited about them for hobby money, either.

    17. I don't consider them 'government' dolls either. But my tax returns usually get partially marked for dolls because it's convenient.

    18. I got $1500 or something for my tax return last financial year, I bought my two boys for 2011 using some of that money. Haha. ...The year before I used my tax return to buy one of the red limited edition Wiis, and a PS3. So... Any spare money from fun things goes to savings though.

    19. I might use it for dolls. It depends how much it is.

    20. I usually break even on my taxes, thus I never get back enough to buy a doll. The US government certainly won't give me an interest free loan. Why would I ever give one to the US government? Tax returns are your money you earned that the government has taken from you. It's not government money.
