Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. The Government Dolls - What do you do with YOUR Tax Return?

Jan 25, 2012

    1. I'm thinking about buying my next doll with my return, I feel a little guilty cause I've been wanting to go out on a vacation. So either a doll or for a wardrobe for my current boys [who need it.. They have about one outfit each. @.@] I think the bjds are going to win over this one though, they make me happier.

    2. I ended up paying off a credit card and bought 3 dolls! Of course that was unplanned. A friend is moving and needed the money so I bought her three, which was only $350, so pretty cheap. If she can find a job and purchase them back, they're hers again. Right now, I need to purchase one a new body. His Obitsu is driving me nuts!

    3. I used my tax return last year to buy Chaosta but this year I won't be buying a doll. I may use a small part of it to buy some stuff though. I decided this year to not buy any dolls (we'll see how long that lasts ;-) and to just use my money to buy shoes and accessories because I really want to get my current dolls finished up before I buy any more.

    4. I bought my poor floating head a B&G saipan a body with my tax money. Of course I am also paying down debt and buying a bead so I think that is okay. He has been waiting I think 2 years!

    5. :( Sadly remodeling our new house will snarf down our tax check so no government dolly for me unless I find a cheap one.

Okay, so it turns out that I lied. My husband bought me a doll today :D!!!

    6. I bought my first doll with my tax returns lol. Glad to know I wasn't the only one who did.

    7. Yup, 3 dolls this month... Go Uncle Sam!!! Now I need to stop for the year. Ugh

    8. I ordered my very first whole and brand new doll with my tax return. I did do the responsible thing and wait about two weeks before I bought the doll though. =3 I know this coming paycheck, only my rent is coming out of it so I can probably afford another one too. A small one from Resinsoul I'm thinking.

    9. congratulations from a total stranger! hope you have a long and happy life with your soon to be husband, and lets hope he doesnt mind you buying dolls left and right lol.

    10. Hubby's buying a big ticket item for himself this year so I probably won't get a doll right away, but at least some of it is going into a savings for a doll until my paycheck gets here. Or maybe several cheaper dolls, I haven't decided which needs to come home first.

    11. I paid for my first doll with part of a tax refund. No, I didn't feel guilty.

    12. since my tax return usually comes a month before my birthday I usually use a part of the money to buy my birthday doll and the rest for a big purchase last year was my laptop this year was a new car yay me

    13. This year my tax-return is going to be saved up for a vacation to Japan, but I fear that I end up visiting the Volks store xD The last few years I did spend it on dolls and stuff but I got the luxury that my parents pay college.

    14. Oh I got 2 dolls with my tax return this year. Love my government dolls! LOL I see my tax return as my fun savings account. It's my play money for a few months. I don't feel guilty because I've always treated it that way. I pay all my other bills like a good girl but I treat that money as a bonus.

    15. My tax return went towards my summer trip to Japan. Same as what I did with last year's, lol. Definitely gonna hit up the Volks and Azone stores again :)

    16. I don't have any tax return unfortunately lol. It's more like I need to give lots of money instead.
But if I did, I would definitely spend part of it on something for my girls. XD

    17. I set aside some for doll stuff, and the rest goes to bills so that I can have fun and be responsible at the same time! :)

    18. As other's have said, it doesn't make sense to call this "government money." Unless you are getting a tax credit, it's your money, not the government's. You're just getting it back because your taxes were less than what you expected, and you put in more than you needed to.

So what do I do with my interest free loan to Uncle Sam is repaid? Well, I try to keep it as small as possible because why should I be lending my money to someone for free...

But we put any extra we have into a nest egg.

And it's a tax refund, as in money owed to you, not a return (that's the document you file to get YOUR money back) ;)

    19. As long as you're spending the money responsibly (i.e. can afford to eat/buy clothes/buy medicine etc.) I don't see the problem in using your tax return on your doll. In fact, you could even go so far to think of a tax return as a way of saving up for a doll - the government saves up your money for you, and because you don't have it, you're not tempted to spend it.

    20. I consider tax refunds to be money owed to us by the government. I hardly get anything back as I don't make that much and have no dependents. In fact, we get more back when I'm claimed as a dependent than as head of household. ^^;;

I have never bought a doll with my tax money myself. I only got a grand total of $42 back this year. That could go to paying for a pair of eyes, maybe? xD

Anyway, it would be pretty sweet if I got a decent amount back. I wouldn't feel any guilt using it on myself because it's my money to start with. :3 Although, I would feel bad about spending it on dolls if it was government money given to me for survival or education. For instance, I think government student loans should go towards school and living expenses while in school. Not dolls. I had several friends in college who used their student loans for everything but school, and who failed out with only quadruple digit loans to show for it. ^^; But that's just how I feel.
