It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. The Hobby or A hobby?

Sep 17, 2012

    1. My dolls before were a hobby, but lately they've become the hobby. I was (And still am really) a big anime figure collector and I used to consider my art a hobby. But now my art is simply 'work' that I plow through everyday and I've lessened up on my figure buying (and I've sold some). I took about a two year off from getting new dolls, but I'm back again and my doll family has expanded a great deal over the last little while. Which has been exciting and enjoyable... but very hard on the wallet. ^^;

    2. Dolls are one of my hobbies, but I wouldn't say they are 'the' hobby. Dolls do, however, overlap with some of my other hobbies ... sewing, crafts, art .. so, are often in the spotlight. It goes in cycles too. I will be really 'into' dolls for a couple of years, then take a break and focus on something entirely different, then come back dolls (I always come back!). I find when I do come back, after a break, I have a different perspective and a different taste. At that point, I tend to change up my collection and collecting habits ... selling some dolls that no longer appeal to me, and buying others that do. I'm in that phase right now. Leaving the 16" fashion doll world and plunging into BJDs. :)

    3. Dolls are just one in a few hobbies of mine. But they all interrelate in some way.
I collect comic books, graphic novels, manga/anime, cartoons and picture books that I like, I also write and draw my own stuff.
But the things I collect inspire me to make my own things, including characters for dolls and the doll hobby helps me discover more stuff to read and collect and write about. So it's this big, happy cycle. :)

    4. It's a hobby for me. I have my art, photography, video games, anime, etc ... Lately, the dolls have taken a lot of my time up, but I wouldn't consider it the only hobby I pay attention to. My art plays a part of the hobby, because right now I've been drawing variations of the character I have in mind. I'm certain that once I get a doll, my photography subject will go from landscapes to dolls. ;)

    5. My main hobby is sewing and embroidering, but since I do that mainly for my dolls, I guess you could say dolls are ´the hobby´? xD I don't face-up them though and I don't like photographing them, but I do go to meet-ups and conventions and visit DoA, so although I don't do all parts of the hobby I still feel this is my main hobby.

    6. My main hobby is cosplay, which is pretty expensive on its own, but BJDs sort of take expense to a whole new level. XD I'm not sure how much they'll end up clashing in the future.

    7. Right now, as I get started, they're 'A' Hobby. But I'm already thinking that they're going to quickly become THE Hobby... Which kind of excites me and kind of terrifies me. ;)

    8. THE Hobby. Although I have always had hobbies and I used to draw/write/paint/sculpt a lot before I got busy with life things. Since waiting for my first doll I have drawn her (first drawing in a long time). I am also planning to sew/sculpt for her. So the BJD hobby is helping to re-spark my other hobbies. Therefore I would definitely say it is THE hobby not just A hobby for me.

I was collecting Monster High dolls before I found out about BJD's but now they don't do anything except sit on the shelf, I'm thinking about giving them to the childrens hospital so I wouldn't consider that a hobby for me personally.

    9. Dolls are just a hobby for me too like many others - but it is definitely the most expensive! I also collect figures and video games, and although they can get pricey, it really doesn't compare to buying dolls and their clothes and accessories :sweat. So I guess in a sense, it's 'the hobby' as I spend the most money on it haha. And although I'm not actively in the creative side of this hobby (taking pics, sewing), I seem to spend a lot of time looking for stuff to buy them online....

    10. Right now, I think this will be one of my hobbies but eventually it will become my main hobby. Some of my other hobbies include manga collecting, drawing, sewing, and I also collect pins.

    11. My main hobby is sewing and then it branches of in cosplay, making clothes for my doll and lolita.

    12. For me, I play in bands and do a lot of art so it kind of completes my variety of things I enjoy. I have a total blast learning about them just as I do all my other hobbies. So it's definitely a very important hobby but not THE hobby.

    13. It is one of several hobbies for me. I collect My Little Ponies and fox things, play video games and do several kinds of art and crafts.

    14. I do have other hobbies and before dolls, I did focus on them more but ever since I started collecting BJDs, they became 'the hobby' for me. I paint them, take photos, even started to teach myself a little sewing. :]

    15. No, dolls are not my first hobby. Music is my true primary hobby. I have my favorite artist of all the time and I think to support him is the most important thing between all my other hobbies. Nothing make me happy more than music.

    16. BJD is 1 of my hobbies. :) I love each and every doll I have.
I re-dress them, brush their wigs, photograph them, etc.
But that's it. They're only a doll for me. :)
I have other hobbies that I gladly enjoy beside BJD.

    17. Well it's one of several, but it's definitely one of the most important hobbies to me. I also collect American Girl, do photography, and love decorating/interior designing. Fortunately, I can tie both photography and decorating into one by collecting BJDs, which makes me so so happy. Actually, the amazing photos you can take with them is what attracted me to the hobby in the first place. I originally only expected to have one to take pictures of, but we all know how that goes.

    18. I did a bit of sewing before I got a bjd but it's way more fun to sew for her than for myself, much less fabric is needed and so there's more room to try things out. When I'd sew for myself (pretty much only cosplays cause that's another hobby I'm in) I was always afraid of screwing it up and it took me forever to collect the courage to even cut it. I don't really have a THE hobby, my hobbies are pretty much drawing, playing videogames, BJD and cosplay.

    19. For me they are THE hobby, because they are the only thing I'm really into, or actively collecting at the moment. They have gotten me into photography and drawing though, since I have been wanting to come up with more characters. But also writing... hmm.. so for me dolls are the hobby that brings with it many others I almost lost interest in.

    20. THE hobby, definitely. I love to take pictures and take photographs not only BJDs, I collect figures a cats and a postcards, I have many other interests, but collecting BJDs is my main hobbies as i spend most of my time and money on them.
