1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

The Hobby or A hobby?

Sep 17, 2012

    1. A hobby. I mean I love my girl and everything, but I have lots of other interests too. I love baking sweets, video games, reading and swimming and other things.

    2. I have other hobbies but BJD connects them all, photograph, sewing, drawing and other craft things as well. I will never sew a wig, do a faceup or making miniature furniture for my doll.
I also don't take picture frequently, but after dressed her well, I wanted to take photo that capture her loveliness and learn some pro tips about photography at least to make my photo decent.
So I feel BJD is one of my main hobby beside reading manga that connects other hobby :)

    3. BJD are for me the main, but AN hobby. I also draw, write stories, read comics, books and manga, play roleplaying games like Dungeons and Dragons and sometimes play videogames. Often also these hobbies influences the BJD one: i.e. some of my planned dolls persona were born as D&D or other roleplay game characters; if a videogame or a comic catches me I tend to sew related cosplay for my dolls; and sometimes I draw my dolls characters!

    4. I think for me, bjds are a hobby. I am really crafty and most of my hobbies can also be applied to bjds. I sew a bit and I crochet a lot and I can do both for my dolls. I also paint, so experimenting with faceups is fun for me. I love dolls and collecting. I think I love bjds so much because they allow so many of my hobbies to come together!

    5. It definitely is the main hobby that I'm known for, but I do have other hobbies as well, but I guess they just don't sound as good as "creepy doll girl" lol. I collect snowglobes and disney movies, and I am into some fandoms and whatnot too,

    6. an interesting topic for me. as i look back over my bjd collecting it has switched over the years completely. i got my first bjd to be a drawing model with no plans to collect any more. but gradually over time i added another one here or there until what started out as an adjunct to my other hobbies had become instead the center of them all. i still knit, crochet, quilt, do miniatures etc but now it is all for my dolls and i have added photography, faceups and simple woodworking to my ever growing list of hobbies, all which center around my dolls. like others have said, i think i like this hobby better than any other i have been involved in before because it lets me do so many different things that are all tied together so i never get bored.

    7. ooooh. This is a tough one. I'd say it is just another hobby but it actually combines all of my other hobbies into one big one. Before I knew of BJD I sculpted and crafted warhammer 40k and DND figures from kits and epoxy clay. I was and am an avid sewer and quilter. I wood worked and built furniture. I like to make stitched beaded and other types of jewelry. I love photography. I like to invent and mod toys.

See how I can do all of those things in this hobby but focus them around one central point? It allows me to do everything I love and bring all of those things together into one beautiful work of art. So for me Dolls will probably become my main hobby.

Besides having an index knowledge on anime, that really is what I base my self confidence on. XD knowing anime really well. But I suppose I can force my dolls to watch with me.

    8. It is definitely just "a" hobby to me. I collect other dolls and toys, I play video games, I'm part of the SCA when I get the chance. I like doing lots of different things and have a short attention span, so I personally could not just focus in on one hobby and ignore all others.

    9. It's not my main hobby. I would say bjd somehow makes good addition to some of my other hobbies :)

    10. It's a hobby that evolved from my love of anime and cosplay. So it is now one of my main hobbies. I sew and paint and craft for them so it keeps me busy with my other crafting hobbies, that are now used to compliment the dolls. They have become like my little family.

    11. BJDs is just one of my many expensive hobbies... :...(
I have more creative hobbies than anything, I make poseable art dolls and sculpt. I really want to go more into making clothes and accessories for my dolls, it's just finding the time to sit down and thoroughly put some time into it. I want to make some face masks, horns and tails for them.

    12. A fantastic, wonderful hobby that I love. I think my most favorite thing about my involvement in the BJDs are tracking my favorite company and collecting more dolls! I like a good Dolpa, I adore seeing other artists share their work and I love, love, love the passion and creativity that BJDs inspire in the community. I have other hobbies but collecting dolls is a pretty big one!

    13. I love dolls, period, and started out with Barbie, then I discovered Tonner's Tyler and still have the first one I bought when she was introduced in 1999; my husband is big into anime and action figures and the bjds appealed to both of us. I build dollhouses too. The bjds are just so lifelike, unlike my other dolls that are mainly just fashion mannequins. My only problem with my bjds is that I'm a terrible photographer and can't seem to capture their true personalities!

    14. I've collected dolls more or less my whole life, so I'd say it's probably the hobby. While I have a lot of other interests, this has been the most pervasive and enduring.

    15. It is one of several hobbies for me. But I spend a large part of my free time on collection dolls.
Actually, several other hobbies that I have usually help me to enjoy this hobby more proactively. I love taking a picture, learning foreign languages, drawing some scribbles. Those are all helpful to this hobby in a different way.

    16. A hobby, definitely. I used to draw and paint a lot, not so much now but trying to get some motivation so I can continue. I can also knit and love crafts and the like. Always up to something artsy :) BJDs are just something that I discovered a few years ago, and I hope that my arts and crafts skills will come in handy for face-ups and clothes for my dollies!

    17. Ok I know this is posted a year ago...but just had to find out if you became a ferret foster parent? I currently have 6 ferrets (among other animals)...and they are awesome!! They make me smile even when I don't feel like it :)

    18. I think it is more of a hobby rather than the hobby for me. I have liked dolls all my life so have other dolls as well. But I enjoy knitting for them...and try sewing for them. Time and funds sometimes decide how prominent a hobby is...lately dolls in general have been something I have spent the most money on. Knitting is also something that takes up a lot of my time and money as well...but now it is something to include with the dolls. My other big thing is my menagerie of animals...that require lots of time and money as well :)

    19. For the most part this is my main hobby, though I would love to collect orchids or antique bird eggs (Real ones, when egg collecting was a huge but damaging thing). But,since I have a cat who loves to chew plants (I'm surprised she hasn't gotten the one I already have) and no place to keep a bunch of plants or an egg cabinet i'll stick to the doll hobby. xD I am tempted to transfer at least the egg collecting to one of my dolls though since everything would be simple to make.

    20. Definitely not my main hobby, but it is the one I've blown the most money on! I have hundreds of video games and multiple consoles, but all of that doesn't come close to what I've spent on dolls. Neither does the amount I've spend on reading or music, which are other hobbies I consider more important than BJDs.

This hobby doesn't really mean that much to me when I compare it to other hobbies. If something happened to my dolls, I'd be extremely upset, but if I never bought another doll, I'd be okay with it. If I could never play another video game, read another book, or listen to music again, I'd be utterly devastated.
