The Hobby or A hobby?

Sep 17, 2012

    1. For me it is just A hobby, definitely not THE hobby.
I have many other hobbies like:
      - Collecting Elfquests,
      - Riding horses,
      - Playing my Violin,
      - Volunteering at fantasy/medieval events.
      - Playing computer games.

      and so on ...

    2. For me, dolls are 'A hobby'. I have many more like drawing, music, sculpting and mmorpgs. But interestingly, I've been sewing, knitting, crocheting, cosplaying, etc., before getting a doll. Nowadays these changed to doll-size which I found more comfortable because I think it's easyer to sew for a model who does not move or say 'hey, you messed up the size!' and also doll clothes need less material.

    3. The dolls are THE hobby for me. All of my other hobbies revolve around them. Sewing, faceups, blushing, painting, clothing designs, wig making, jewelry, role playing, photography, shopping, sculpting, modding...it ALL goes back to the dolls. The only hobbies I have that are not doll related would be gaming and I don't do that often.

    4. My BJDs are a hobby for me, but almost all of my other hobbies involve collecting. I collect various other dolls and My Little Ponies. I also seem to collect a ton of horse hair care products, lol! My horse has more product then I do, and his shampoo costs way more than mine! I guess my other hobby is horses, but that's such a big commitment I think of it more as a way of life than a hobby. I also play video games, read, journal, and travel as often as I can :)

    5. As for many others, I think that this Hobby lets me do other things too!! I like making dresses for my doll, and I love doing her face-up! Ah, that feeling of achievement! *chuckle*

However, on the whole, one of several hobbies that does not cross over with my other hobbies (eg music, cooking)... ^ ^

    6. Mostly the only hobby for me. I do collect dragons and mermaids, The Dark Crystal stuff, write, roleplay, and play with my cat, but it's the one I mostly deal with.

    7. It's A hobby...I have other hobbies. Cosplaying would be a main hobby, anime figure collecting, photography, and painting (ceramics). Alot of my hobbies kinda tie in and cross over with each other.

    8. I've had various creative outlets for years (since HS & before) - costuming, photography, dancing, singing, collecting geek things & miniature stuff, doing reenactments & cosplay (SCA, RenFaires, SF conventions), writing.
When I first realized I could afford to collect BJDs (about 5 years after actually finding out about them) I was immediately hit between the eyes w/the fact that I could combine most of my passions into doll-related things (ok, NOT the beledi dancing nor the madrigal singing although I have my dolls BE dancers &/or singers LOL) - they are all cosplayers, I have written their characters & am doing stories, I am making their costumes & photographing them, I am able to use all the miniature stuff (geeky & otherwise) I've collected over the years ( SEE - I KNEW there was a reason I kept all those tiny glass liquor bottles for 30 years ROFLMAO)
It's my big combination hobby :D

    9. I like this phrasing, so I'll borrow it.

I used to collect a lot of things but now it's down to BJDs and nail polish. The apartment is already full up with books, craft supplies and gewgaws and I am always trying to carve those back to make room for the BJD things.
My only other real hobbies right now are seeing live music and traveling.

    10. It's just one of several hobbies for me, and not even a realized one yet since I am still saving. My main hobbies include writing, reading, drawing, traveling, and video games. Traveling, video games and bjds are the most expensive ones, though.

    11. A hobby, but BJD's can tie into my other hobbies I love that about this hobby it can branch off into so much.

    12. Only one of my collection-type hobbies. I also collect Gundam Wing everything and animation cels. :D
As far as other hobbies that eat money; concerts and traveling

    13. I guess bjd is not my only hobby.. i do play game and do other stuff. I don't bring them out everyday and sometime don't give much attention to them. I take picture of other thing as well.. but i think bjd is my main hobby as i spend most of my money on them.

    14. The hobby, definately. I do like other things too, 60's and 70's furniture, vintage clothes, books, but I don't seek those out like BJD and I never go to conventions or something.

    15. I would say this is my main hobby where I spend all my extra time and money, LOL. But I also play Golf and am a runner. I divide my team amongst the three but BJD's is my main one.

    16. I'm a person who has many hobbies and collections, so I guess the best I can say is BJDs are definitely in my top three. Lolita fashion and BJDs are always fighting for first place, just depends on my mood for the month. DC Catwoman comics and memorabilia has been my longest running hobby/collection (I've been collecting them since I was 6) so that will always be important to me as well.

I could go into all my other hobbies but I wont bore everyone lol :sweat

    17. It's A hobby for me, though I occasionally do sew for my dolls or knit for them and most recently, am trying my hand at doing face-ups (works out quite alright, so far). THE hobby would be writing. That's the one thing I can't seem to stop. Uhm, not writing about the dolls' characters. Writing stuff like fan fics or my own original stuff. I guess if it came down to it, I could live without my dolls - but I definitely couldn't live without writing or making up stories in my head. I need that like I need to breathe.

    18. BJDs are one of my hobbies! And maybe, just maybe it's THE hobby, but I'm not sure if I'd call it that, since I do so many different things. Yes, it's a huge part of my life and a huge part of my hobbies but there are a lot of other things that I do and enjoy just as much, like (video)gaming, reading, writing, pen&paper RPGS, walking and photographing nature and miniature war gaming... I could add painting/drawing and scenography to the mix (which are the things that I would NEVER be able to live without, especially drawing) but that's more like my job than a hobby, so... ^ ^;

    19. To me, it's one of several. Or... a few... it's a complement to my main hobby, which is writing (the dolls are characteres from my stories). And it's a chance to actually get into the hobby of photography - I love taking pictures, I just never knew what to photograph, now I always have something to fall back on - and of sewing, which I did a lot a few years ago, making clothes for myself, and now I'm getting back into it, as I've started making doll clothes. So I guess most of my hobbies are in some ways related to BJD's, although they are all technically "older" than the dolls.

    20. I think BJDs are The Hobby for me because I started to use a camera thanks to them only. I also tried to sew just for them. And I didn't collect dolls before, now I want to collect every doll I see >.> and figurines. However, I liked art since I was a child so painting (face ups) and drawing (tattoos) were already a hobby.

I have several hobbies too but I only focus on one at a time. For example, last year I rarely played with my dolls since I was always reading books and this year, I think I haven't read any book because I spend my free time with dolls...let's see what brings next year! ^^
