1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

The Hobby or A hobby?

Sep 17, 2012

    1. It's 'a' hobby for me.

I am a miniaturist - I used to build dolls' houses and dolls' house furniture, and make little accessories out of fimo, etc. I've temporarily 'shelved' that hobby, but I am slowly getting back into it.

Up to this summer I bred pedigree cats. I have too many cats at home right now, and I really need to take a break from the breeding/showing circuit.

I cross stitch. Very often elaborate patterns, in silks and hand-dyed fabrics and yarns.

I play computer games a lot. Especially Sims. For some of the old games (the 2D kind) I also created downloadable content, but todays' games are too complicated for me to have any fun creating. (I can still *do* it but I don't enjoy it, so what's the point?)

I've tried my hand at many other things. Ceramics, painting, sewing, knitting, crochet, etc. I've studied several languages just for fun. I love reading.

It's a wonder I have time for my dolls... :D

    2. BJDs are one of many hobbies I enjoy. I really love drawing, painting, writing, sewing (I also sew plushies in addition to sewing clothes for my dolls) and watching anime and playing video games. Now granted there are some times when the lines blur between these hobbies, as in when I draw pictures of what I want my future dolls to look like or when I use my traditional art skills to paint face-ups, as well as the fact that I fully intend to base a doll off my favorite character from Sailor Moon (Sailor Saturn, the one with the least merch available it seems >_<). My creativity tends to ebb and flow between my different interests, but I think it's a good thing- taking a break from dolls every now and then is a good way to refresh my view of them and re-evaluate the direction I want to go with my collection. ^^

    3. its my main hobby but,i have more hobbies.:)

    4. For me, it's only one of my hobby. But I always do many things related to this hobby, likes taking photos, making clothes, travelling with my dolls.

    5. For me, owning BJD is one hobby among other but I have to recognize that, with time, it takes more and more importance in my life... in a good way of course. But I think when you buy clothes-shoes or accessories for your dolls before thinking about you, it becomes more than a hobby haha. Where is the limit between hobby and passion then ? ^^

Some of my other hobby have evolved too. Photography for example. I still love shoot people, animals or landscape but this time, I shoot my dolls more

    6. One of many for me - and a new one at that! In common with lots of people on this thread, I already loved photography, sewing, knitting, making things generally - and have more than a few dollshouses! But the dolls are very beautiful in their own right - and a really good way to do lots of hobby type things at the same time!

    7. I have to say that BJDs are A hobby for me, rather than THE hobby. A few of my other hobbies feed into BJDs, such as sewing and photography, but I have quite a few hobbies that have nothing to do with them. I do tons of tabletop games/LARPS, I read, I write, and I love to travel.

I have to say that BJDs are probably my most expensive hobby, but that's not a big deal. :)

    8. The profesional hobby was photo, and the dolls made me do more of that. So togheter they are The Hobby

    9. It´s one of my hobbies. I have a few more hobbies that I also like and sometimes I can combinate my Doll-hobby with others.

    10. A hobby.
I have tons of hobbies, although they all related to each other on some level.

    11. Most of the other things I sometimes call hobbies are more like interests eg movies, music, anime, games. So this is more or less my only hobby (other than writing which coincides) because it's the only thing I don't feel like I suck at, plus it helps with lot of stuff.

    12. For me this is one of several hobbies. This one i picked up after finally abandoning cosplay though. I also play Magic: The Gathering, draw, write, play video games, watch anime, I collect anime figures and plushies, play ocarina(kinda on hold since i need a new one desperately), I dance, and pain minis. For me dolls are too expensive to be an only hobby if that makes sense I need other things I can do when money is tight.

    13. I'm not sure I would call reading and playing video games a hobby as much as forms of entertainment. But I have been active in art nearly all my life, and for the past 8yrs have been bellydancing, and I really cant imagine anything taking the place of it. I'm currently waiting on my first BJD, and have wanted one for years, but I can't say how into the hobby I'll be until she arrives ^_^.

    14. It's a hobby out of many other hobbies. Other than this I am a lolita, I like to draw and watch anime and collect otaku things or anything Japanese related.

    15. A hobby of four, and definitely not the one I've sunk the most money into. My other hobbies, though they are less prominent right now, are cosplay and art, and then my main hobby that gets spent into before the other three is collecting KPOP albums (which I've dropped about $2k into in the last 9 months or so).

    16. It's one of my newest hobbies, since I also draw, make dolls, make stuffed animals, and write

    17. Bjds are a hobby, not the hobby. Albeit a dear one, but I also cosplay, dabble in J-fashion, play an instrument, draw and write. It was my interest in J-fashion that finally got me into BJD's, actually. :3

    18. I would consider it one of my main hobbies. A Hobby per se. My biggest hobby is Art. That encompasses paint, literature, fashion, sculpture, architecture and dolls in my opinion. I see dolls as a very high form of art. Dolls have been made for centuries. Why shouldnt they get respect? :I

    19. It's my favorite hobby, and I have a lot of hobbies. I've always liked miniatures and doing all sorts of craft projects, and BJDs combine all those hobbies.

    20. Oh, definately just a hobby. I'm an illustrator and portrait artist first and foremost. After that I'm a writer, a self-seamstress into historical dress, and a Minecraft addict. BJD's, I'm mostly in for the cuddle factor, bringing my characters to life, and being able to paint them.
