1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

The Hobby or A hobby?

Sep 17, 2012

    1. I have a lot of hobbies but whilst owning BJDs isn't my main hobby it's probably the second most important to me. Luckily the only one of my Hobbies that takes extreme precedence over my doll hobby is writing and that's cheap as chips!

    2. It's just one of many, many hobbies. I do a lot of things outside of the doll hobby, but I also incorporate some of those things into it--so I figure it's an even tradeoff, lol.

    3. It's one of my hobbies. Well, it's basically BJDs or art (though trying to turn art into a career) and sometimes there is overlap since I sew and paint for my dolls in addition to sewing plushies and painting comics. Video games is a distant 3rd. I'm not sure if it even counts as a hobby. I play one or two console titles a year.

    4. I would put my BJDs down as a hobby that fits perfectly into my way of life. It slots right in there with my traditional and digital art; textile work; sign, print & design work; and marries in perfectly with my love of / obsession with all things miniature! :kitty1

    5. I have other hobbies, but that being said, BJDS are my favorite~ I still do thoses hobbies and they came first.

    6. I'd say it's one of my main hobbies, but not the hobby.

Cosplaying/sewing is probably my main and favorite hobby then collecting dolls. Those are my two expensive hobbies as I have phased out of lolita because I went overboard :sweat

Haven't been horseback riding in years, but I wish to jump back into that. I don't stay current with video games/consoles, so when I buy a doll I look at it as me buying 10 new video games

    7. Not my only hobby, but definitely the most expensive by far! Even art, which I've been doing for a while now (though admittedly most of what I've spent have been on sketchbooks and pencils rather than canvases and various paints and brushes) and including my tablet, don't come close to what I've probably spent on BJD's in total.

But BJD's really encompass a lot of things, which has been said before, art, writing, photography all come into play in this hobby, and for the price, I definitely think it could be argued that one also gets the most fulfillment from it, and who knows what that's worth?

    8. This is just one hobby that just so happens to fit in with my drawing hobby photography, and my story writing hobby, but I have many hobbies:).

    9. I have other hobbies, but bjds are probably the main one because they do take up a lot of time and money and overall focus.

It helps that there are the boards and meetups and doll activities--which make the whole thing more easy to be involved in.

    10. Well, I have a itsy bitsy hobby of collecting neat clothing tags, lol! But thats not really anything. BJD would be my biggest hobby should I actually manage to dive into it. I like doing tons of other things though; writing, drawing/painting, designing, photography, editing, photoshop, graphix design etc; But like I said, BJD is the first major which I'd be throwing a bunch of money into XD

    11. To me, it's just another hobby. I collect Sanrio stickers and stamps as well. (:

    12. WANNA say it's one of my few hobbys. Out of those few its they hobby for me, lol. Sadly it really is staring to define me in away. Take over about 85% of my thought...

    13. I'd say that BJD collecting is just one hobby of mine.

I also enjoy art and books/reading very much, as well as television and movies. I usually try to spend time on each of the hobbies each week and not let one take too much hold, so much that I neglect the others but sometimes it does happen. Lately I'm sad to say I've been spending too much time watching television (My sister and I seem to have been watching Supernatural a lot lately because we just started watching the show a couple of months ago and are trying to catch up).

My BJD collecting sometimes slows down because of lack of funds or time though. It's something that if I'm active in the hobby I want to really be ABLE to be active daily or at least weekly, therefore when I cannot be active often enough I don't really enjoy it.

    14. A Hobby for me, my first "hobby" was playing Warhammer 40k. BJD's came several years after, I love both just the same, I'd never give either up. :)

    15. The dolls are a fairly minor hobby for me - they're fun, but my other hobbies (outdoors-y active stuff, travel, and animal training) are more time-intensive and lifestyle-effecting.

Dolls are just something to play around with every now and then and to admire the rest of the time (although I think the year my collection jumped from 7 to 19 it would probably be fair to say they were one of the biggest financial investments - but that was a freak occurrence).

    16. I would consider it my primary hobby, since a lot of my thinking tends to revolve around it.
But there's one thing that will always be more important. Animals. My pets, of course, and animals that need help. I donate a good deal and I'd like to volunteer in a few places once I finally get around to getting my license. I might also consider being a ferret foster parent, if things go the way they seem to be going right now.

    17. Only one of my hobbies...and sadly, not even the most expensive!

    18. BJDs are just a hobby for me, not the hobby. They did get me into building things like furniture and sewing. Drawing is my main hobby, though, so BJDs are fun since there's the option of faceups and shelling a character.

    19. It is just one of my numerous hobbies , and it isnt close to being my main hobby sadly .

    20. I think BJDs are a hobby inside all my other hobbies. I'm a passionate writer and a photographed, and these two are perfectly combined in BJDs. I love making up characters and backgrounds and stories, and it's amazing how I can bring a character alive in a doll form and photograph it - it gives me more pleasure than drawing my characters, although this might be because I'm really bad at drawing, really.
I can't really say which one of my hobbies would the 'main one' as they're so clearly linked to each other, and I love all of them. Couldn't give any of them up. ♥
