It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. The Hobby or A hobby?

Sep 17, 2012

    1. Interesting question .. hmm ..

I have loved dolls all my life - and I own A LOT of dolls.
Tonner, Barbie, Monster High .. you name it, I have it :D
so getting into BJD seemed like a natural step.

I also like music - active and passive - but I can nearly always combine it
      with my dolls.

At the moment BJDs are *THE* hobby,
but I know myself .. when I find something more interesting I will most likely
be able to let go of some of my dolls to pay for the new interest.
But I could NEVER sell ALL of my dolls - may it be BJDs or the "cheap" Monster High dolls.

I have done that in the past
and it never turned out good - I sold my Bobobie Sprite to buy a Tonner Wicked Witch for example,
just to find that I miss cuddling with my Sprite so much .. and even though
I LOVE EVERYTHING Wizard of Oz .. I was never completely happy with my Wicked Witch.

So .. back to the question :D
BJDs are A hobby in THE doll hobby .. does that make sense ?

      :)

    2. While collecting these dolls is, by far, my most expensive hobby... it's far from the only one. I think if tinkering with these guy was ALL I had to occupy my time, I'd have gotten sick of them and ditched the entire lot by now.

    3. I combine my love for roleplaying, love for dolls and love for poetry and photography in one. They all mesh well together ;)

    4. BJDs are just one of many hobbies for me (albeit one of the main ones and definitely the most expensive). Even though BJDs have a huge variety of sub-hobbies such as photography, face ups, sculpture, sewing etc., I would still find it really boring to only have BJDs as a hobby. I've had lots of hobbies before and continue to develop many more (some of these have even stemmed from my BJD hobby, such as sewing, as I have hated anything to do with textiles with a passion before, but I've just recently bought a new sewing machine. ^_^). Some of my other hobbies are art (another main one - I like drawing and sculpting), collecting Sylvanian families (so cute!), collecting pens and stationary (I love Jetpens stuff as well as those expensive fountain pens) and reading.

I guess I'm pretty fickle, and can get easily bored if I get too into any hobby for long, so I just rotate I interest around these without ever loosing complete interest in any one hobby.

    5. Dolls are my only real hobby. My partner and I are homesteaders so our lifestyle is based more around necessity than conveniences. So for me the dolls allow a creative outlet besides painting the chicken coop or designing a new compost bin. After a long day freezing my butt off in a dog blind waiting for a deer or canning 75qts of stewed tomatoes it is nice to sit down at the sewing machine or set up a photography shoot to unwind.

    6. Just one of many hobbies. I'm new to bdjs so I haven't done much with them yet. But I mostly collect plushies and various different knick-knacks and books. Right now I am absorbed in the Avengers. :kitty2

    7. A hobby that often takes the faaaar backseat in another car entirely.

    8. This is not my only hobby, nor is it even my primary hobby. It's one of not too many others, but I am much more active and devoted to my other hobbies.

    9. Just "a hobby" and not "the hobby" for me, it's actually one of my lesser hobbies. I'm into drawing, vintage comics, anything with Michael Morbius in it, graphic novels of both manga and western comics, anime, Tolkien, some sewing that's mostly comprised of plush toys, I've been collecting action figures my whole life (for realz, when most little girls are playing with baby dolls I was playing with ST:TNG action figures), I make jewelry for fun and practice until I can do it professionally, and so on. Of course, work and school take up the majority of my time, but I'm sure most if not all of us have that problem.

    10. maybe this is my main hobby now..in the past years my main hobby was anime figure collecting, but when I started collecting dolls, I stopped, or partially stopped, my figure collecting..and sell some of them to support my doll collecting.I still buy figures, but only those that I really want.i now focus on my dollies

    11. My hobbies are counted cross stitch, jigsaw puzzles, fiddling with my computers, and I am now becoming interested in dolls. I hope this doesn't become my main hobby, because I like having varied interests.

    12. Just a hobby at the moment, although as others said it's one of the main collecting ones. I also collect postcards from Postcrossing. I belong to a pirate reenactment group that takes up most of my time at the moment, I also recently got into larping and belong to both the 501st Legion and Toy Soldiers. I sometimes do WW2 reenactment sometimes too. I play video games, write and draw but those three are sometimes joined with doll collecting.

    13. My other hobbies are weight training, writing, reading, playing the Sims, photography and makeup/outfit design. I think BJDs are the first 'proper' hobby I've gotten in to, with all it's own jargon and community interaction. I'm going to learn how to paint and customize the dolls so I suppose they might get me started in a few other hobbies too.

    14. This hobby is tied very closely to my main hobby, which is writing. It's a hard to separate, when I use my dolls as my characters. But I do have other hobbies too, they just aren't as expensive as BJDs. :sweat
I'm also not the kind of person who forgets about the hobby for a certain time. Since I got my first doll, I've been to DoA and RG (Danish forum) every single day. I have had times where I didn't buy new dolls, times where I didn't do much with my dolls, but never times where I forgot about it all together.

    15. I've been making characters, writing, drawing for years it wasn't until I got into the BJD hobby that photography REALLY piqued my interest but I have other interests, other hobbies. I do group projects with friends, I roleplay, I do other things, I ADORE reading, I LOVE going to movies and seeing new effects it's just apart of me. I adore stop motion animation so BJD's have given me idea's on how I can somehow do that with my own and sewing, crochet, all that stuff I never pictured myself doing. I used to cosplay and I say this loosely because I only had one complete cosplay and eventually I just didn't wanna cosplay anymore..So now I make cosplay for my dolls.

    16. To me it's a hobby. I almost constantly rotate between which hobby is my main one and which ones I'm neglecting. Right now anime is my #1 but dolls are moving in and could take that spot, figure skating (watching and following, not actually doing! XD) is secondary, then jpop and jdramas. I'm totally ignoring my favorite boy band right now! I can go for years completely neglecting one of my hobbies but after some time I'll usually end up falling back in to it.

    17. BJDs are a very big hobby of mine. One out of a few that truly make me happy! :)

    18. One of many hobbies for me.
My main hobby at the moment seems to be sewing soft toys :D - I like to think of my dolly obsession as one of many outlets for my RPG and novel characters, it's so much easier to sew the outfits for bigger dolls.

    19. now i think it is the main of m hobby. i know bjd is because cosplay, but now i don't play cosplay, but i still love it.

    20. It's another cool hobby for me that helps to reinforce and revive other existing hobbies. I really love how it gathers a lot of my other interests together in a package that allows me to focus on one element or another for a time.
