The Hobby or A hobby?

Sep 17, 2012

    1. For me, I was always really interested in sewing, sculpting, painting, drawing. . .creative things like that. Now that I'm into BJDs and learning how to sculpt my own dolls as well as owning them, it has become a really big hobby. Because it includes all those artsy things I love doing, I've based all of this around the dolls.

    2. I have tons of hobbies. I don't know which one my main one is or how I would even pick. BJDs definitely cost the most.

    3. I have so many hobbies...I collect figures, cosplay, crochet, the list just goes and goes. I think bjds has been the funnest though. ;)

    4. All hobbies are The Hobby for me. They each have a specific function in my creativity. Some of them are monotonous, others are incredibly difficult. The enjoyment even differs, and I may sew one day and paint the next, and work with clay the day after. They all have their downsides, and switching between the many hobbies I partake keeps them fresh. Its easy for my favorite things to get stale. I often become obsessed and then break through to apathy. If I allow myself to disengage and switch activities, not only do frustrations lessen, but I get to keep my heightened feelings of pleasure. Dolls are The Hobby some days, and are anpassing thought on others. Often, my hobbies bleed together. Crafting for a doll requires many media and an infinite number of options. How could I partake without atleast dabbling in the other arts?

    5. for me its a hobby as i have so many others as well!

    6. A hobby because I also have a lot of other hobbies and the biggest one apart of BJD's are videogames, bands, books, writing and anime-manga :)

    7. BJDs aren't 'the' hobby to me, but they're definitely one of my main ones. The other main one is Magic: the Gathering (which I play weekly at a local store). I don't really consider things like 'reading' or 'gaming' as hobbies (when I do them), because they don't have the same active component as BJDs or Magic do. And I don't spend anywhere near as much money on them as I do BJDs or Magic, either :sweat

    8. I agree with most people here in that BJD's have certainly received the most investment than my other hobbies. But in addition to BJD's, I draw, sew, sing, act, and cosplay. I'm also working on writing/drawing my own comic series. But BJD's are different in the way that they are a physical representation of my characters and nice to have as character references. Through this hobby was mostly how I got into sewing and how I've been able to improve on it. I've also dabbled a little into photography with BJD's, so overall, they're not just "A hobby" but a start in having multiple hobbies.

    9. Its A hobby... admittedly expensive... But The hobby for me is probably drawing

    10. I don't think I have any "real" hobbies, other than spending money of cool and pretty stuff. Aside from BJDs, I love Japanese and general Asian fashion (Rocking horse shoes, tattoo tights, spiky headbands, horn clips, etc.), I collect "brand" stuff like Boy London/Sex Pot Revenge/Vivienne Westwood, and I've recently started taking up bento-making (which, of course, involves buying tons of cute bento gear!). Personally I can't count con-going as a hobby because I don't cosplay or really follow anime or comics, for me it's just like a vacation weekend.

    11. It's one of my many hobbies. It is however my main hobby that takes up most of my money :)

    12. BJD's are another hobby for me, I kind of got into them for the photography aspect. I don't always have human subjects to photograph so I thought BJD's could help me practice more and just broden my horizons so to speak.

    13. Definitely one of my main hobbies, of which I'm all new to and demand equal time and funds (mnmaybe not as much as BJDs tho). I do gunpla and play Vanguard (hello booster packs which never seem to have the cards I need! ehgck). I also cross stitch (easily the most time consuming but relatively least expensive out of all of them!)

    14. It's ONE of my hobbies. I spend a lot of time researching stuff and thinking about stuff with it, but now that I've gotten past that initial year buying spree thing, it's wearing down. I'm more conservative with this hobby that I was a year ago. I make plans and stick to them rather that impulse buy. They've become more of a get all the stuff to complete them and that's it. I used to just look for stuff for them all the time, but now they have default outfit that they pretty much wear all the time.

My anime hobby has resurfaced again, but it's not as demanding. I can find whole box sets for less than one bjd clothing item sometimes. Actually just got Rozen Maiden (anime about bjds) with another complete set for $20.

I'm also really into comics. The comics themselves don't cost that much, only about $3 a piece, but some of the merchandise costs a lot. I've gotten better with it though. If it's Power Girl, X-23, Bleez, or Harley Quinn I have more trouble passing on it.

I don't really consider video games along the same lines, but I guess I do sorta collect them. I'm not one to trade them in much. For 5-10 bucks they can sit on my shelf and look cool lol. Just went back and played Mirror's Edge last night. It came out in 2008...so you never know. Wait long enough and it's like playing a new game again.

    15. I like this question. I think my other hobbies all joined into one with BJD. I only have interest in having one doll and she is a child in my eyes.
My career is my hobby. I'm a wedding photographer. Photographing BJD helps me separate the hobby aspect from the career aspect.
My other hobbies were making miniatures, sewing, drawing miniatures, and decor. BJD and my doll house combines every aspect of this. Though I'm not sure I'd say its THE hobby because I'd give my doll up centuries before I give my camera up.

    16. I have a million hobbies (Reading, drawing, crocheting, Tiffany's, makeup, Korean language...just to name a few!) and these hobbies include BJD! Having this many hobbies gets expensive hehe *_*

    17. This is definitely one of my main two hobbies (the other being video game modding). Both are sort of battling it out for first place, though!

    18. I'm a self proclaimed hobby collector. I really enjoy lots of different hobbies. That being said BJD are one of my biggest ones. My others are crime drama appreciation and animation appreciation. I'm a huge animation fanatic.

    19. Dolls is my only hobby. I have a short attention span so I can't handle more than one hobby. Plus this hobby is so vast.. Sewing, wigs, faceups, photography.
What more could you want? :)

    20. My main two hobbies is this and video games. I have others too but not as big as those.
