The Mini Centaur Thread

Oct 8, 2014

    1. I just literally can't find a head I like :( Almost all of them are either really childish or babyish or too bland or weird. I've looked at a lot of different companies and dealers, but ... nothing! The only one that I know I like is the Souldoll Criss Angel but they won't sell his head separately (already asked) and I don't want the headache of a split to get a non-limited head.

    2. I have TOO many centaurs.... though most of mine are the yosd or tiny version. Of my two MSD ones, I actually like the posing and streamlined of the Luts body. I have the soom MSD - and it's a lot thicker and bulkier.

Praesagium - any Luts kid head would work - have you looked though all their heads? (that way you can be sure of resin matching). There are also all the kid gift heads from various years that one can get on the marketplace - and those are often cheaper.

    3. @elf-ears, sure have. The Kiddelfs fall in the baby/childish category and the Model Delfs are too bland. Just like Souldoll, I'd have to buy a whole doll just to get a head. I've been searching the MP every now and again to find heads others are selling as well, but I'm still not finding anything I like.

    4. Oh noooooo. These are just lovely.
I'm particularly fond of the Satyros, I think, but wow, the delicate, intricate Eloise! She'd be a fun one to do finishwork for!

... I cannot fall in love with any more centaurs. I have one boy and he needs a /lot/ of work, but it doesn't hurt to admire all of yours, right? :D

Edit: And a newb question. When you say "Mini" centaurs, does that mean they're in the ~30-40 cm range?

    5. Yes... well, the heights are around there, but can vary because of the horse body--but basically, they are using bodies and heads that are around 1/4 scale, or close to the Volks MSD size.

      • x 1
    6. @Praesagium Hm. Kirsten from Souldoll is not to your likening? Thes sell her head separately and except for the more narrow eyes, they are rather similar. Especially if you compare the blank heads.
Hmm... What about Issac? I think there was one on the MP?

Oh, what color do you need to begin with?

Other not so childish heads I remember being sold are from Withdoll, Supia, Iplehouse and DreamingDoll.

(Also, you are not the only one who asked about selling certain heads separately. I already got their NL boy body and I do not need anyone in my crew that tall. It's a pity they stopped selling their old body. I like that one.)

Also, I'm guessing there is no head among the event heads you like?

      @elf-ears Oooh. Nice. Hording? ;p
      ... Pics?

@redsixwing ^^° I started working on my Eloise yesterday and as I have ... a stupidly complex concept (color and detail wise, not so much original) I want to try, I'm not sure 'fun' is what I'd claim it to be xD But if it works out, I'll be god damn proud...

And of course you can fall for another centaur :3
Twice the number, triple the work and QUADRUPLE the FUN!!!!

I think Mini = MSD and they go up to 49 cm if I remember correctly.

      And what @april said ;P

This is the concept for Eloise btw Rainbow colors concept for Loongsoul MSD pegasus
And the first step taken towards completing it:

    7. @Snowy, Kirsten's eyes are smaller and her cheeks are fuller. Criss's eyeshape and browline are what I like most about him. I like Mewo as well, but again with the not-sold-separately thing :(

Colour doesn't actually matter much. If they match, awesome, if not, I can just spray over it and colour the whole body instead of just the horse body. I'll be using Army Painter Colour Primer spray, which I already tested on a few spare pieces. The best part about it is unlike a clear spray, I can actually see where it coats!

Anyway, I don't want to take over this thread with my head-searching. I'll probably make a search thread later in Visualisations once I officially give up on finding one on my own.

    8. Cool, thank you.
Hm, they're bigger than I thought! But then, my guy was too. I failed at math and expected my 24cm doll was going to be substantially smaller than he actually is, and the bigger end of this scale is...twice his size. *boggle* Do they weigh a lot?

My guy's pretty negligible, but... resin is heavy.

      I'll cheer everyone on. :D

Thanks for the information, and... that photo, WOW! That's going to be a gorgeous doll.

(Hm, so a big Mini centaur would actually stand taller than Spouse's MSD... o.O)

    9. The horse body can throw a big unknown into the height... I think there was a 1/3 centaur body that was on the small side, so that they actually stood smaller than the human version... I THINK! And on some of the tiny sizes, the horse bodies have short little legs (Soom?)... so I'm not sure if they'd be taller than the human version.

My Soom Shale is around 45cm, but normal height for Soom mini size is listed as 42cm.

I know that dolls with 2 hooves for feet often are taller because the hooves have to be large enough to stand on. I think my Soom Aphos with 2 legs with hooves is around the same size or taller-- 46cm...

The horse bodies can't get TOO big/tall because, as you said, the resin starts to get heavy. So they usually are around the same size... but it's hard to tell. You'd need to go to the various company sites to look (sometimes they don't have the measurements, though), or find someone in a Discussion who knows/has the doll to measure.

    10. @april I think you got the Impldeers in mind. Their human origin was 46 cm tall while the version with the deertaur bodies were only about... 36-ish? If I remember correctly. Shorther than most of my MSDs in any case.

Also I think you might be thinking of Sooms Zinc centaur. The original Zinc was only 51 (an Idealian) thought, so ... it worked out :3

Dunno about the shorter ones. I only have two YoSD that got to stay for good reason ^^°

I wonder if maybe we can make an info post about MSD centaurs in the first post, like we got in the Granado thread for example?

Like what companies released MSD centaurs and links if the listing still exists with data and stuff :3

    11. I also think the 1/3 Soom centaurs were shorter than other Gems... but I'm not sure.

I wonder if there can be a Wiki page made, and maybe a link put in the first thread? I'm not really sure what is allowable in Wiki...

    12. Thank you all for answering my noob questions! \o/ A wiki page would be really great.

a very <small> sampling of my centaur obsession. *cough* That is not even HALF of them. But only two are MSD sized.

    14. @elf-ears OoO look at this cute mini-horde!!!!

Your two MSD centaurs are... Very enthusiastic about keeping their race... Strong in numbers.

Spring is coming. I shall demand the FULL HORDE!!!! ;9
Line em up! It's time to gallop :D

EDIT: Also, enjoy some color ;) Soon it's rainbow time!
Loongsoul Pegasus Eloise rainbow blushing progress

Well, it seems the Pegasus is stuck as unicorn for the time being. I'm out of sealer - and I already had one wig colored when I noticed ^^°
Good thing at least the body is done painting.

Pretty pleased with the result. The colors aren't quite THAT bright in reality, but not that far from it either. Hoping to get my hands on more sealer soon, do the face-up, find a name, get a wig (in similar color) decide on eyes and... start designing some gear for him to wear :3

    15. Oooh, pretty! --but I bet it's annoying that you've run out of sealant! (I should probably check on mine... it always runs out at bad times, I think!) Thanks for showing us the updates! :kitty2

    16. @april Weeeeeeeeeeell... My dad confessed yesterday afternoon, that for some reason, he had a can of MY sealer in his toolbag. He must have mistaken it for his color sprays for his car (they look very alike and I nearly brought out the wrong one today for spraying).

So surprisingly I could complete my colorwork today after all!

I've actually done a face-up after this pic, but due to the bad light, I haven't taken another pic, so I figured I'd just share this one.

I've also compiled a sort of photo-series containing of three pics, that shows the progress of coloring the wings. I already felt yesterday, that it was amazing how different the doll looked to me after adding first one, than the second and then the other colors to it, and wanted to share this effect.

    17. @Snowy aaaaa your coloring looks fantastic. Looking forward to seeing more of your colorful friend :'D

In other news. My sibling helped me get an order down for the Sio2 deer so I'll have a third MSD centaur.
I wonder where I'll put him.

    18. @Snowy -- beautiful colors!

@Nattou -- those Sio2 deer look fantastic! --although from some pics I saw, the boy was very, very obviously a boy! I can't wait to see owner pics! Congrats! :D

    19. Oooh wow! I really admire that doll. He looks so perfect and fun.

      @Snowy Love the colors!

    20. You've given him such an incredible and unique design!!! The colours are frigging amazing and it's such a lovely way to incorporate the rainbow into his design. I've got a lot of my little pony childhood nostalgia looking at him.
I'm looking forward to seeing his faceup!
