The most thoughtful packaging

Nov 15, 2023

    1. Most dolls arrive quite simply packed - in a box either in foam or between pillows + tons of bubblewrap. Have you ever had something arrive in exceptionally thoughtful or well-engineered packaging making the unboxing extra special? Do you think it adds value/is worth it?

Most of my dolls have been second-hand and not in particularly fancy boxes, but I do appreciate Souldoll's ribbons holding the pillows and doll in place. Untieing them was like opening a present which I thought was very cute and made the other arrivals - that had just simple boxes, if that- seem a little less ceremonious. Any other great packaging stories out there?

    2. My two little Xiao Jiu sparrows from Sakura & Paper came wrapped in tissue inside a pair of small, plastic 2-part eggs. Which were sitting in a round, straw nest in the company box. It was all kinds of adorable.

    3. I was impressed by Jacoosun’s packaging with the drawer for the shoes and the way the box opens. It made it extra cute to open! I also like dolls dressed up when they are shipped as a fullset. They are already beautiful and ready to go! I wouldn’t ship them second hand this way, but I have received them from artists like this and it was so lovely.

The best packaging I have received was actually for a doll dress set. It was packaged in a beautiful chest with an enchanted forest with white stags designed on it. It was truly magical to open and discover all the sparkling goodies inside.

    4. I bought a Doll Family A DuoDuo second hand and the seller sent her to me in an empty one of those Whitman's Sampler chocolate boxes... I've always thought that was very cute and charming.

    5. My One Off Volks MSD Hewitt came already dressed and with his boots on so that was special to me. I only had to put on his wig and crown.

The other one would be my ClockworkFairy Fae who I got second hand came in the cutest bag with the cutest certificate.

    6. My DollsBe Yo-SD came in a teddy-bear-inspired carrier pouch and I love it. I've actively used it to take her places since then and to store her stuff. Useful and cute.

    7. I really want to shout out to Junkie Spot. I don't even think they have many dolls for sale right now.

But, the thoughtful gifts and extras that they always put in with their dolls when they shipped them, is one of the many reasons that I used to love to buy from that store so much. It was just fun to see what kinds of little odds and ends would come with the dolls.

Also, their customer service was awesome.

    8. In my collection I thought TTYA had the most thoughtful packaging. I do like pretty boxes so the canvas bag was a little different but I love the sleeping bag she came in. It has fun fabrics and is branded like their clothing so it adds a fun touch to the packaging. I think it does add some value because it’s sustainable compared to even pretty cardboard or paperboard boxes. I think people who might throw a box away would keep this.

    9. YummySweetsDolls and MaddybearDolls have been my favorite unboxing experiences. Everything was so lovely. I’m a sucker for nice presentation :love

    10. My ResinSoul Mi and Spiritdoll Elegance bodies came in doll carriers instead of boxes. Those were really nice, and useful for doll meets!

Off topic, but I have an Elleodolls dog who arrived in a tiny little ornate tin can. It's really cute and I put her in it for travel.

    11. I love the doll carriers and packaging other than cardboard. I love it when anything I buy comes in reusable packaging.

    12. I love Soom’s doll bags. They’re a lot more reusable than bubble wrap, for sure! I much preferred receiving dolls that way anyway. Lillycat and Youpladolls also ship their dolls this way!

I don’t (yet) own a doll from them but I want a maskcat doll just for the adorable little case they come in. It’s like a little trunk.

    13. I love thoughtful packaging! I can’t remember what company it was, but I saw pictures of doll heads being shipped in this red little chest-like box, and it must have been lovely to receive and open.

Out of my dolls, I love Doll Chateau’s boxes, they’re thick cardboard and a deep blue color with metallic details, and although it’s not incredibly fancy, it always feels a bit luxurious, especially with the leaflet and the envelope with the CoA. They’re beautiful.

Telesthesia keeps it pretty simple, but they do put a soft, red ribbon around the bubble wrap, so as you said, it also feels like u wrapping a gift!

And lastly, this is not about the box itself, but I LOVE the Dollzone logo on the cardboard shipping box that says “Dollzone - I’m here” It’s such a wonderful touch and after months of waiting for a doll, you really appreciate that “I’m here” ❤️.

I’d love to know more about what companies ship heads in cute packaging or in boxes that feel special!

    14. My Sprouting Dragon body arrived today (it is gorgeous and perfect :love for my floating head). What surprised me that it came in a blue carrier msd bjd sized bag and the extras included a little puller for taking the head off and even a kip too. So all that was really welcome :D

    15. I use them as extra padding in my sports bags I used to transport my larger bjds to meets as sports bags tend to have no or little padding. They are so so useful. The tiny size is perfect too as they (up to 3x) can fit in small rucksacks perfectly.

    16. When I brought my 1/6 guard love doll, she came wearing panties and a free bag to carry her in. I was so happy because I didn't have a bag to carry yosd dolls in, so it very useful. I also tend to buy clothes and rarely ever underwear so her coming with one was very thought in my opinion.

    17. I ordered a body from Fairy Castle and she came packed in a carrying case instead of a box, with two sets of hands and a set of heel feet, a face protector, a comb, eye putty, etc. Probably the best packaging I have received a doll in, with the most useful extras!

My Loongsoul came with a head puller and replacements for all her magnets and hooks - also incredibly thoughtful extras. :D

I am /also/ joining the chorus of admiring the Maskcat trunks, haha. A local friend got one recently and it is /so/ nice.

    18. I will forever sing the praises of Dream Valley. Everything was so carefully packaged.

    19. I also join in admiring the Maskcat packaging! It's not just the trunks, but the little details like the cat print cushion, the cute COAs and the overall attention to detail. I have an older version of the Maskcat trunk that my Lissete arrived in, but I also fell in love with the newer, more detailed version of this trunk that I saw on their instagram.
