The obsession with beautiful boys?

Feb 16, 2007

    1. My dolls are escapism, purely ^^; In real life I loooove hunky big guys with lots of hair :D (relativly speaking) but hate those really waifish skinny kids that are hairless...

yet my dolls are a fun way of being in a fantasy, and frankly my doll would not look good w/ hairy legs. There's a clear line between what I like in my dolls and what I like in my men...there is no blurring there ;)

    2. I'll be recieving my Cosette boy before I recieve my Mimi. I already decided to name my boy Oden and he's gonna be pampered like the beautiful aristocrat lolita he is. He's gorgeous

    3. My boys are characters in my stories and they told me how they look so...

Though I'd rather have male dolls than female dolls. I hated Barbie as a child and I'm not overly thrilled with most of the female BJD's that I've seen. I also hate the Lolita look and that is what a lot of the female BJD clothing is. All except for one of my boys dress in pants/shorts, even if they are gothy or punk. I have one boy that likes to push the envelope and will wear skirts. That's just his personality. I have one boy that prefers to dress in trousers opposed to jeans even.

At the moment they are in boy/boy relationships but again, that is because the boys that are with girls... I just can't find a female doll I like. :]

    4. Girls like beautiful boys, boys like beautiful girls, I think it's pretty normal.

I personally, don't follow trends and fads. If there's something I like, I'll go for it, despite what other people might think. It it just so happens to be part of a 'trend', so be it; it makes it easier for me to get what I like.
I liked anime back when it was considered horribly geeky. Then I liked yaoi when most people were still rather uptight about it. Really, it's something as simple as two people who love each other.
I wear a bright fucsia fedora, and a trenchcoat that has a cow-print pattern. Do I get dirty looks? Hell yes, but I don't care. There are also people who stop me to compliment.

I think that people should do what they like, not what they think other people will like.

I happen to like men with long hair, and shapely bodies, that's just my personal preference. I've never cared for hairy uber-macho men. I like my boys beautiful, handsome, and elegant.

Yes, I'm planning on having a boy's head on a modded girl's body. Why? Because the character needs it. Other then the DOT body, which is far too tall for the character, and MSD bodies, which are too short, none of the male dolls have the body I'd need for him. The character is young, skinny, yet has an hourglass shape, with unusually shapely legs, and yes, he cross dresses. He'll be the only character of mine to do so, and it's because it's part of the story-line: He's a male version of Alice.
Honestly, it's mostly for the humor aspect, and for fun.

Before uptight Victorianism, men were 'allowed' to be more flamboyant, homosexuality wasn't seen as an abomination, and women weren't the only ones 'allowed' to be pretty.
Frankly, if anything, I think it's a sign that REAL equality is starting to become 'mainstream'.

If you don't like a certain aspect of any hobby, it's easy to simply avoid it. There are certain types of molds I don't care for, but I don't go complaining about it. Nobody's forcing you to look at it. Besides, only a fraction of members on DOA post in the photo gallery and photo story sections, it's not fair to judge the majority of people from the small percent visible.

      There's room for everybody!

    5. Well, why do you consider certain hair to be "girl hair?" Surely, if most guys didn't chop off their hair because they're too lazy to style it  then it would grow in the same way female hair does ;) Besides being beautiful, I find well-kept long hair to actually be very "masculine" on some men; its very animalistic.

But anyway, beautiful is beautiful - I am extremely taken by the beautiful visual-kei style Asian men - they can be decked out in makeup, long hair, and skirts and to me they are NO part woman, they are very, VERY male, ideally male to me.

So to get back to the question ^_^; They're not "just girl dolls." They're very much male, dressed in what pleases the owner. Many people actually don't follow social trends and don't use labels like "girl clothes" and "boys hair." What is attractive on girls can be just as attractive on boys. What "makes them boys" is indeed their body part. Wearing makeup or skirts doesn't make them less male. It simply makes them look visually pleasing to their owners. :aheartbea

    6. I am new to the world of dolls, so bear with me.

I am curious about the existence of overtly feminized male dolls. In specific, some dolls in the Gallery designated as male seem to be—at first glance—female since they have traits usually applicable to females: long stylized hair, intricate makeup, and à la mode clothing. What is the intention of this; or, am I missing something?

      ruwbox. :)

    7. Interesting question. I don't have a clue as to the answer because my mandolls are dressed/painted as masculine. perhaps it is simply owner preference?

    8. Well I think the whole point of having dolls is making them how you prefer them to be. If feminine is the way the owner likes their boys, he/she will make him like feminine. It's also the molds that are very feminine. Because they are made in Korea, Japan, etc, they tend to be more on the feminine side.
      But on the other hand, there are plenty of threads about this ^^;;;

    9. To me, I just think that it's what the owner prefers. ^^; To actually say, I prefer feminine boys, but my next two boys (which will be a SS-Lishe boy and an El) won't be as 'feminine', but they aren't as 'manly' either (well, my future El would be leaning over to the more manly side then the feminine, and as for the SS-Lishe boy, well, he's just plain emo and lazy. xDDD) :3 I like my guys skinny and slender--but not too skinny. D: Too anorexic people freak me out.

    10. I have one who does dress in skirts, and all, but I just like Bishie men!

    11. [chuckles] What Luxuria said. ^_^

I'm a pretty shameless bishie-fancier, so a lot of my guys have that sort of "look". Even the ones who aren't especially girly otherwise.

    12. I think girly boys aren't just a doll trend, I'm also a member of tokyopop and I've read a lot of comics about gay/girly boys. Some of them even suggest that all guys are gay. There are almost no mangas without something gay in it (the first two mangas I read both included an accidental guy kiss)
Men have also started to care about what they look like more, and started to behave more female, though it's going to take sometime before they're all like the average male BJD.

But I'm not into this at all, and still want a guy doll. Simply because their molds are nicer than most girls (the girls are mostly cute with huge eyes and tiny lips) I think that's a factor aswell. My guy would also be somewhat feminime, but not in a lipstick and highheely way.

    13. It's owner preference. Plus, there are certain ideas that western culture has about what is masculine, however, just because those stereotypes exist doesn't mean that everyone buys into them. I don't think it's so strange for girls to like beautiful guys. Even when dressed in a feminine way, male bjds are not just girls with boy parts. They do look different--their body shapes for one thing are quite different from the girls.

    14. I think it all depends on the owner.
I've personally always liked effeminate boys; I hate muscle, I hate body hair, etc- and I don't like girls.
I'm not a fan of anime at all, so it has nothing to do with that "bishounen" idea.. it's just my personal preference.
As for the boy + boy, I dunno. I guess it's cute, but I don't really give sexual preferences to my dolls.

    15. This is a very interesting trend to me. I'm older than dirt & have always been attracted to male on male action which was considered completely weird when I was young. Also have always enjoyed cross-dressers & used to find slender, hairless, pretty boys to be my ideal of masculine beauty. Back then, these things weren't talked about & I always believed I was the only woman who found such things hot. Now it seems an entire generation is into it. I used to work for a gay magazine doing photography & illustration under a masculine psuedonym.

However, the fascination of my younger years hasn't carried over heavily into my dolls. A few are gay, a threesome lesbian, several are bi & there's one totally asexual. The rest are basically straight though often kinky.

I find that I tend to buy more masculine looking male dolls & haven't done any cross dressing with them though they do wear a lot of ruffled shirts & long wigs. My personal taste in male beauty has also changed though I still appreciate the eye candy of a pretty boy.

As a completely unrelated side note, it also amazes me how many of you have stories in your head. Again, in my youth & really until I found BJDs, I thought that other than writers, I was very strange for having such things. Maybe I was just a few generations too early.

    16. i posted a simalar thread on this very subject..
for me the reasson i WOULD make my boy dolls (when i get them)
be attracted to eachother is because well...sorta id be living vicariously through my dolls..
because i kind of have a mental error (i dont know WHY i think this..or whats wrong with me...) but..
im a girl, but i want to be a boy. not a stright boy tho..id want to be a gay one..thairs just somthing about gay men that attracts me...and BoyxBoy relationships are very interesting to me..i personaly think i should have been born a boy..but i guss my twin brother got to..and hes gay so hes kind of living my dream lol
but my point is..scense i want to be a gay boy of corse my boy dolls will be too..
i also only like boyish boys..im not into the boys that dress like girls..its just weird lol
but thay wish thay where girls so i guss thats understandable..
      eh?

    17. Because... it's... really hard to find an ugly, non feminine boy doll. It's hard to make an El look anything but pretty. I've tried, and given up.

Man dolls are out there. Straight boy dolls are out there. I just find two guys together really attractive and cute... much the same way a lot of my guy friends find two girls together really attractive. Some like it, some don't.

It also doesn't mean all of my dolls are/will be gay or pretty boys. Vin isn't gay or pretty. He's a man and straight... enough...

    18. I don't know what the obsession is about... but I've got it BAD!

I thought I could content myself to "normal" boys. But alas, I could not. I had to have my Heath, the one in my avatar. He's so lovely and pretty. :love
