The obsession with beautiful boys?

Feb 16, 2007

    1. I despise the Western world's narrow-minded notions (of beauty).

    2. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm love, beautiful chaps!

    3. I have watched Japanese anime since 10 years old in the late 70s. I have always loved bishounen (anime for boys with pretty girls and boys) and bishoujo (anime for girls with pretty boys and girls). Loving pretty boys is something natural for me. The so called "beautiful boys" had all along been something I'm used to on tv. I did not even know it's embrassing or unusual. I never made any pretense or deny the fact that I love pretty boys.

    4. For some Boy/Boy is a trend.

For me, it's just who I am. I'm a boy who likes boys. ^__^

I think there is so much focus in the anime realm for yaoi and the like that it carries over into fangirlyness and becomes obsession. Some people that are so entranced with the gay lifestyle honestly have no idea what it's all about. Granted, there isn't but so much to it, really, but still...

The boys as girls thing I think really just falls into the realm of fantasy. Much like lusting over an actor/actress or wishing a book character were a real person... it's all things that aren't too common or realistic, and making them your own.

    5. There's nothing wrong with liking similar beauty in both men and women. There's always a billion and a half threads running about androgyny and what's the deal with it on here, so I won't even get into that. But the pretty boys thing is an aesthetic, and turns out people like it. To which I say, go for it.

    6. I love the pretty boys....they're just so awesome.

    7. Awwwww...
As a pretty boy, I love you all too LMAO (no really)
I don't know, in real life I grew a beard just to avoid the reality based sterotype with being pretty.
I think we all have an appreciation for what is "pretty/beautiful" that is what art is all about. It serves no esential purpose to lfe but to inspire and entertain and our dolls do that wonderfuly.

    8. People are entitled to like what like shallow or not to some.

I would personally say to that get over it.

    9. I've just always liked my guys to be girly and my girls to be manly (most of the time). XD

Maybe there's something deep to it...maybe there isn't. I could give some possible explanations as to why I enjoy bending gender roles. Let me see...

I cross dress...couldn't imagine wearing anything related to my gender. I've been cross dressing ever since I've been a child. Oddly enough though, I've never looked at myself as any sort of gender when it came to anything but clothing but that just boils down to appearance. I've always just been a hunk of meat with free will that likes what it likes, mentally I've never been a girl or a boy. The same reflects on my dolls. They have sexual organs that dictate their "gender"...but they're not really limited to girl or boy stereotypes.

Admittedly I find heterosexual relationships a bit over played and boring. *I don't mean to offend anyone though! I'm sorry!* Oddly enough though, that would be acknwoleding gender on my part? >_<'''

I do have some characters that are in heterosexual relationships though. I have some lesbians, some gays and some bisexuals. Sexuality, appearance, it all depends on character. I have an Male To Female character who hasn't had any surgery but still dresses and acts like a women because that's what he views himself as mentally, he also has a girlfriend. He would be one of the two exceptions to my "no gender" rule that applies to my characters.

I like yaoi. I like yuri. I've never liked "manly" guys but I like girly girls, butch girls and girls in between. Perhaps my love of girly boys comes from my preference of girls?

Where I live, the majority of the men and women are very traditional. A large number of the men are sexist in some way or another, even men in my family. I'm being serious. It was often drilled into my head that the women stay home and have babies and men work. Men work with computers, women go into nursing and etc. Girls are below men and men are dominant in everything. Men wear man clothes. (EI: flannel, crew cuts and beards are among the only types of appearances accepted.) Any man who wears anything otherwise or looks otherwise is wrong, disgusting and is to be ridiculed and rejected. Not to mentioned killed in some extreme cases. The same goes with women but it's not as strongly enforced, ah, and with 'feminine' clothing of course. Even some of the women in my family believe these things. That's what I've been taught since I was young and I've come to despise it and despise the people who hold these values. Perhaps this is the driving force behind my likes and dislikes and my actions? Perhaps I like to do it to defy gender stereotypes and go against the bigoted values I was taught growing up.

Or it could all just simply boil down to my own personal tastes and what appeals to me visually?

      I. Just. Don't. Know.

I apologize if my post dosen't make any sense. O_o''' I'm not very good at focusing or expressing my thoughts very well but I've tried.

Oh oh oh! Also, don't misunderstand that one section of my post that talks about the people in my general area. I'm condemning people with sexist values and ideas. Not people who dress their male dolls strictly in male clothing. There's nothing wrong with that at all! Just saying in case someone reads that part the wrong way! >_>'''

Now I'm paranoid that someone will read my post the wrong way. >_<'''

    10. I don't dress my boys up as girls, nor do I give them girly wigs to wear either, but I realize that both of my boys still have quite feminine looking faces regardless of how they're dressed.

For me, that's perfectly fine because I've been watching anime since I was like... 4 years old (i.e. since back in the early 80s), so I've been exposed to the whole 'bishonen' and 'bishojo' deal for over twenty years now. I'm used to it, and I don't mind pretty looking male dolls (or even pretty looking human males lol). Yet, at the same time, I also like manly looking dolls as well, and yes, manly looking men in anime/real life too. I also love yaoi... which I won't go into because I'm sure it's been discussed until the cows came home on this board before already.

In short, I won't say I'm obsessed with beautiful boys although I do like them, but I think like many others, I'd take a beautiful boy bjd over an fugly one any time (and when I say fugly, I mean fugly by my own standards not anyone elses) :sweat It's just the way my brain is wired I guess.... pretty boys.... :drool

    11. Uhm I don't dress my boys as girls (I shoud say I don't dress my boys at all XD) anyway I love the esthetic of male dolls, with delicate features in their faces but manly bodies, I suppose it is just a matter of taste. My taste for real men is really different ;-) but for dolls I just love them in a certain "yaoi" style (probably cause I am a great yaoi fan since many years....).

    12. I can't speak for anyone else, but I personally feel like pretty boys and boy-boy romance are things I'd want for my dolls simply as it imitates life. I personally identify as a boy, and I'm attracted to feminine guys. It's as simple as that.

    13. I'm obsessed with Yaoi - especially the whole seme/uke thing. But pretty boys do not necessarily have anything to do with that, and manly men can be just as gay as bishies. It's a matter of taste and preference. I like both manly - and feminine boys. What matters to me is the sculpt and whether I can bond with the doll. My boy Elliot (a Crobidoll Nia) is definitely in the 'bishhie' category, but I'd like to get manly doll next time.

I don’t know if I’ll ever buy a girl since all the dolls that appeals to me are boys, and it seems like most of them are meant to be gay… So I might never get a straight couple.

The reason why I’m so fascinated with seme/uke relationships is probably because I can relate to the girly boy since I'm a girl myself. It’s a bit like a normal girl/boy relationship, but what makes it so exciting is that it’s two boys. I can’t describe it any further because I hardly know why I’m so into this stuff myself.

    14. I can't say I like boy/boy-relationships more than boy/girl ones, since it really depends on what character I've given my dolls. My first doll, which I'm saving up for, is definitely straight.
I'm attracted to the girly boy-dolls though. not because they can have dresses, since the only reason i'd dress boys in dresses was if they were crossdressers/dragqueens, but because I just like cute things. but I don't really find boy in girls clothing cute... Just scary xD; And yeah, I'm NOT a yaoi-fan. XD

Most boy-dolls are very feminine, though, due to the Asian aesthetics. just using a Japanese saying as example: "Strong as a man, beautiful as a woman"

    15. Most yaoi fans dislike the feminine/girly boys. I, for one, hate crossdressing with a burning passion >.< or dolls, characters, guys that look like girls and I don't read yaoi manga with girly guys. People's sexual orientation/likings should not be used as a factor for liking yaoi or any other genre. Some people like boyxboy relationships or crossdressers but they're not into yaoi, others (like me) love yaoi but none of their dolls is gay or a crossdresser. Also, I know a few people who hate homosexuals in real life but like yaoi...

As for my obssession with beautiful boys...well, there's not really an explanation for it because there's no need for one. Seriously, who would want to own an ugly doll? then again, what one person finds to be a beautiful whatever, another might find horrendous!

    16. Actually when I look at sevral male dolls I can se they are male, but by hearing from others thers a wide section of ppl who thing they are female. Also the word DOLL in dutch is a 'female' word ,so before and some time afther my Hong arived my mother called him 'dollygirl' (poppemieke voor de belgen/nederlanders hier) what I really HATED.
not to mention my dad wanted to see proof Hong was a guy :sweat

either way, when hong/Race got here he was so beautful, it was odd, I'v never seen the guy as pretty, sure hes my Muse, but hes not a pretty guy. Alteast I never saw him like that, in fact I know I'v been trying to make him effing ugly just for my own personal kicks. (some what longer nose then usuall ppl, slender eyes, ears that wanted to be elven but didn't get there ... scars, ... )
But I can't help it, Hong looked so much like him :doh

but hey who cares, to me hes bolth ugly and beautful XD

    17. i have to say i'm reallt not a fan of the genderly confused seeming dolls. if you want to put a skirt or dress on a doll, you should have gotten a girl. i'm ok with the boy/boy relationships, but i don't think my doll will have one when i get him.

    18. So two years after the last posting I find this fascinating thread and have to contribute! I fell in love with my man doll when I first saw the company's promo pics. He really turned me on! Now that he is living here, he seems so real, so very male, and yet my friend, who is an artist and a gay female, thinks that he is "attractive in an androgynous way". WTF? Yes, he is gorgeous, but the facial sculpt (as well as his body) definitely male, manly, etc. I guess that beauty and sexuality, whether male or female, are strictly in the eye of the beholder. My guy sure turns me on. If he weren't resin I would marry him!

    19. I've always loved beautiful men. I find that I love to draw them and if it makes me happy, then I'll do it no matter the opinion of others. Yes, my sister finds it weird that my drawn men all have some sort of feminine quality to them, but she doesn't condemn me for it. Everyone's different and have different likes and dislikes. I say, to each their own.

As for yaoi, same thing. To each their own. I like yaoi, I'm not obsessed with it, but I like it and if I think a character fits into the yaoi life, then so be it.

    20. My dolls don't cross dress, I don't have anything opposed to it I just don't have any desires for my own dolls to do it.

However both my dolls, especially my Bada, do look rather feminine. I think it's both because that most boy doll sculpts just honestly are feminine and most wigs are shoulder length or a little above. In real life I don't know if I go for girly boys or manly men but my characters are always those fantasy-like pretty boys. I guess it's just your preference. *shrug*

For boyXboy relationships I do that a LOT because I tend to be very picky with girl characters and often like other peoples' boys better than their girls therefore I'd rather my doll, reguardless of gender, date one of their boy dolls or characters as opposed to a girl.

I think I just have weird tastes XD.
