The really teeny tiny, are they worth it?

Jul 29, 2012

    1. Puki are adorable, but knowing me the little thing would get lost. That and I would more likely rather have an SD.

    2. No, not for me... I love tinies and I collect tinies only but anything under 16cm is too small for me...

    3. I have three tinies who are 16 cm and one soom mini gem. Those can be a real pain to sew for and to restring (especially the mini gem). I still really like them, though. But I couldn't imagine an even smaller doll. They'll fall right through my hands.

    4. While I think they are really cute and love seeing pictures, to me they are not worth the price. I would also not want a doll smaller than YoSD size.

    5. I have five Pukis and one Brownie. When I first saw a Puki I thought it was adorable, but when I got my own tiny I didn't care for it at all. A year an half later I tried again and LOVED it. Apparently Chichi was what I should have started out with XD

As how it sometimes goes with Pukis, they multiplied quickly. The thing is I actually had a plan for mine. They're "chibified" versions of 6 of my SD sized dolls. One of their characters owns a magic shop, and all 6 of them frequent a coffee shop (which is how they know each other). My ultimate plan is to make these "sets" for them to exist in. I have a crap-ton of stuff for them already and can't wait to get it all assembled. Plus there's a dollhouse I want so bad...it's an apartment building! Not a frilly, gingerbread-style house...omg I need that for them!

There is just no way to do this with SDs, not in an apartment. Or a small house. Or some large houses XD And god, the cost of furniture at SD size....One couch could cost as much as a whole room of tiny furniture if you know where to get it!
And they do take up much less room than larger dolls....sometimes I can't believe the number of dolls I own because a huge chunk are made up of YO or smaller dolls (I know YOsd sized wasn't what the OP was talking about, but they don't take up much room either)....

As for losing them...when I was trying to decide if I could handle the small size, someone asked me if I'd ever lost one of my dolls shoes. I hadn't...and it was pointed out that an SD shoe is around the same size as a Puki XD
That pretty much decided me right there.

So yeah, teenies. Totally worth it to me.

Even if I thought it wasn't, all I'd have to do is look at my Chichis pout-face and I'd remember why I love them <3

    6. I tried a Pipos Cheshire (21 cm) and while he was adorable, it just wasn't for me. Even knowing that, I struggled so much when I sold him, and for awhile I was afraid I made a mistake. Now, a couple months later, I know I prefer 60 cm and above and I am putting that money towards a doll that's been on my wishlist for a long time. I just didn't put the time and energy into that tiny as I did into my SDs. I love handling the larger dolls, plain and simple. However, purchasing that Cheshire was totally worth finding out what I like and what I don't. Now the tiny tinies, that would be way to small for me, and their aesthetic style just isn't for me either.

    7. The smallest doll I have is 14cm (Bluefairy Pocket Fairy Yoko - the girl on my avatar). I am absolutely happy with her and she was totally worth it. I bought her in 2004, when the first run of Pocket Fairies was released. Since then, I've taken her on multiple trips and vacations - she's my travel doll. I just pop her into a sunglasses case and she's perfectly safe to be toted around anywhere. Also, I've yet to lose her (knock on wood!) or any of her tiny accessories.

When it comes to fun/utility per $ ratio, Yoko comes out far ahead of all my dolls, despite having the highest resin cm per $ cost. I would absolutely get another doll of her size in the future when the right one comes along. Big dolls are very nice to have, but the tinies hold their own around here.

    8. I probably won't ever get a doll smaller than 15 cm. I wouldn't know how to sew, knit or crochet for them! It sounds like kind of a pain. I do love smaller dolls, though!

    9. I've had tinies ranging from 12-19 cm, and while I did like owning them very much, I found I never did anything with them. They were too difficult to find wigs/eyes for, unless I was willing to shell out a lot of money... and I didn't see the point in spending more on such tiny things, when the same things for my MSDs cost me 1/2 the price. Posing was another issue - it was much harder to pose my 12cm OrientDolls than it was to pose any of my MSDs. The last thing is just detail - I appreciate the detail that goes into tinies, but I appreciate it more when I can see it better, aka on a larger scale. ^^

Tinies are fantastic, but they're just not for me!

    10. For me, they aren't really worth it. Doll size wise, I don't play with the teenies as much as I do the larger dolls. And money wise, they are expensive given what you get for your money. I would rather spend a little bit more money to get a LOT more doll.

However, it didn't stop me from buying two teenies a few years ago I got a great deal on, to make a family of dolls I have complete. But they are the only two I ever plan on having.

    11. I've handled tinies before and something is very endearing to me about them. Perhaps because I really like miniature things in general. But I would never get one myself. Not just because of the cost, but personally, I enjoy at least an MSD on up. And even if someone were to give me one for free....I wouldn't know what the heck to do with it. I'd probably honestly give it away to someone who could love it more. xD Teeny tinies just aren't for me! I'll live vicariously through someone else who has them haha.

    12. I find my 11cm pukipuki easier to pose than my 72cm guys. Beautifully engineered, too. I wish all large size dolls were designed and executed as well. So, yeah, I'd say tinies are worth it.

    13. I think tinies are worth it. In fact, it's the SD size I've always thought weren't worth it :x. I understand the price thing, but quality is my priority. I only have 1 tiny at home so far (and 2 pukipukis on the way), but I love to take her everywhere. I literally pop her in my bag and go about my day. Right now she's sitting on the table next to me. Where are the bigger dolls? In my room. Maybe I just can't bond with the bigger dolls. I'm not sure. I have an MSD and my eyes almost fell out of my head when I took her out of the box and saw her size. Don't get me wrong, I love her too, but I'd never get anything bigger.

I also like sewing for the little ones... I never have to worry about not having enough fabric, and I sew by hand so the machine size isn't a concern. My tiny has so much clothes, but my MSD has a lot of clothes I started and never finished.

    14. I think they are darling and understand why they cost so much, but as someone who regularly loses her glasses for weeks at a time (had to just buy a replacement pair), not to mention my keys, I think I'd better stick with 1/6 and bigger. I've got a friend who has three of them and I enjoy hers vicariously.

    15. It used to be a big 'no!' for me when it came to the idea of owning a teeny tiny, but then again I said the same thing about YOs and 70cm guys. And now I own both sizes. And MSDs. Aand a couple SDs. So I think I've begun gravitating towards the smaller ones since I haven't owned one yet. Plus, I love seeing all the great props and unique photoshoot ideas for them! So far though I haven't been able to justify the price to myself though. I'd love a real puki, but for that price? I understand why, and I know they're pretty great posers and all that, but it's hard for me to put that amount of money down and get such a teeny thing in return.
To answer whether or not they're worth it ... Well, I haven't been able to put the money down for one. Yet. But I'd love to find out sometime if they're right for me! I have been eying Pipo's Baby Cheshire cats for some time now ...

    16. I just got my first Pukifee and wow was I surprised how small she was!
I was thinking before I got one size for money they seem expensive verses an SD..
Well, I still feel that way and put her up for sell once I got her and seen how small she was for the money...
I keep looking at her pictures I took though and its getting harder to think of parting with her...
Now I am giving myself all kinds of reasons why she is worth it! Plus she is an awesome posing little doll :)

    17. I'm sure making something so teeny tiny is difficult which is probably part of the cost.

The teeniest tinies are not for me. The only one I've owned is an off-topic 11cm doll, but sewing for him drove me crazy because my sewing machine couldn't handle something so tiny and I loathe hand-sewing. Without being able to sew for him, it was much harder to bond, but he was a lovely poser.

    18. Not to me, no. personally the really small one's like Fairyland's Puki Pukis... I just...couldn't justify paying so much for something so tiny. I wouldn't be able to enjoy it at that size. Worth is usually a subjective thing, so... if others like really tiny dolls and they are worth it to them, then that's awesome.

    19. One of my most recent dolls is a realpuki Roro. Sure, she was about $200, which seems like a lot for 9cm, and maybe that would be too much under normal circumstances, even for me. BUT I got birthday money which I was told to spend specifically on THAT DOLL, and I do love her so very much, so she was very worth it to me. ^ - ^

    20. My tiniest doll has me full of mixed feelings. I think the 11cm size of PukiPukis is just too small for me. I'm very hands-on with my dolls, doing g a lot of posing them just for fun or sitting them by my computer or in my lap, and it's hard to be okay doing that with a doll I'm constantly afraid will lose their hands, and has terrible trouble keeping a wig on.

15cm, though? My PKF is just the BEST.
