The really teeny tiny, are they worth it?

Jul 29, 2012

    1. I love and appreciate the larger dolls.
But the smaller they are, the more impressed I am. Doing that kind of detail accurately is sooo hard. My most expensive doll is a Yo.

    2. I love tiny dolls. I've always had a fondness for miniatures, and seeing the detail on these tiny sculpts just amazes me. My Limhwa ToYou Mari is so beautiful, with her little tiny fingernails and her sculpted hipbones. Almost all of my dolls are 30cm or smaller, and I wouldn't have it any other way. They're easier to carry around and easier to store. And I, personally, appreciate how delicate and light they are. I love finding them little chairs and props and whatever else. One day I intend to make some dioramas for them. :) I admit they can sometimes have trouble posing, but it hasn't been enough to bother me, really. I think they were worth every penny.

    3. I own a few pukipukis and I think they are worth it because they pose really well and are incredibly cute (especially when posed next/on a normal sized item which emphasize their tiny size even more).
Plus they don't take up much space and they can easily sit anywhere.

Tinies (15cm and under) from other companies that may not pose as well as Fairyland dolls, I think is still worth it if the person likes the sculpt.

    4. I love my teeny tiny doll, he's a realpuki soso. I'm loving him for his mold but I find it really hard to make good poses with him.
I think if he was a bit taler like 12 cm or so it would be a lot easier for me to work with hem. I don't regret bying him, maybe I should just find a way to make it work

    5. I have a 5 1/2" Garden of Dolls Nabiyette and love that she is dollhouse size so I can do dioramas. It is hard to get much detail into her clothes, and even most thin fabrics are bulky on her. I'm glad I have her, but one is enough. I don't have any tinier ones because I like mature faces and bodies - not childlike ones. If there were mare moture looking teenies I would get them. I'd love some adults for my 1/24 scale dollhouse.

    6. The smallest doll I own is about 6 inches, and he cost less than $100, shipping and faceup included. He was worth every penny, and if there were more like him in that price range, I'd buy more, because no, I don't think some of these teenies are worth their asking price. I understand that it takes work to make something that small, but when they starting surpassing the $150 mark, it's a turn off. They don't pose that well, the clothing market is limited, and then, I just prefer bigger dolls. Dolls like Realpuki's cost about as much as cheap, decently made MSD or Yo-SD, and I'd just as soon buy one of those. So yeah, to each their own.

    7. My mum has a Dikadoll Bobby. He's gorgeous, poses well, and looks great next to her MSD. Do I consider him worth it from a financial point of view? Well, he made my mum happy, so honestly he's worth so much more than just money. But when my mum looked at the smaller dolls herself (before I got her the Bobby) she said 'they're lovely, but they cost too much for such a small thing'. When it comes to my collection I'd rather save up a bit more money and get a bigger doll.

    8. I love my realpukis ,they are very tiny and being tiny makes them very special and exceptionally cute :). They are worth every pound I have spent on them. I couldn't imagine me owning a bjd doll any larger than 15cm.

    9. To be honest, I don't think they're worth it. They're adorable and I would love to own one, but they're so expensive! I can't bring myself to buy one.

    10. My mom recently bought her first BJD, a pukipuki. She loves that tiny little doll. She couldn't believe how much money she spent on her, but it didnt stop her from going out that evening to get her a bed and vanity....
I'm sure she will have a sister soon. To my mother...those pukis are worth it.

    11. I think tinies are worth it. They're compatible with most dollhouses and miniatures, and they can wear Kelly doll clothes which are really cheap on Ebay. I think every doll size has pros and cons, and the problem I have with tinies is doing the faceup. I had such a hard time with that!
As for the price, they are expensive but it's not a waste of money if it makes you happy. My little realpuki makes me happy,so I don't even think about how much I spent on her.

    12. It depends on people's taste honestly. But for my own, I don't really think they're much worth to me, sorry Q~Q

    13. My second doll was a Tiny Delf Dorothy.. She just wasn't for me at all. :/ I fell in love with the promo pics but once I got her home I fell out of love pretty quickly. (That, and I got major heat from the parents for 'spending so much on something so tiny.') I've always preferred the older looking bjds even before I started collecting for myself. (I guess I thought Tinies and Yo-SDs would satisfy me from getting the big boys but that didn't happen.)

I understand why they cost what they do because of how small the parts are and how hard it must be to do that tiny face-up but the cost, to me, doesn't really justify what you get. Two of what I paid for her could get me very close to another Luts SD boy, or mostly any other SD. But on the other side, I don't really like the cute little kid/baby look and it seems like that is the only type of clothing out there for tinies. (Plus their tiny little fingers that look like they could break off just by touching them.....) I like my dark, edgier boys too much so I'll stick to them. >w>

To me it's not worth it but that's just how I feel about smaller dolls in general.

    14. Although I mostly own SD's, I like tinies as well. Especially the Puki I own now, because she's just big enough for a dollhouse. So what's this "you can't do anything with them"? I've already spend months planning and building a dollhouse and I'm nowhere near finished!

I guess that's what I like about them most: the possibility to make photoshoots of these tiny dolls and their surroundings.

    15. I don't have any teeny tinys myself, but I really do adore them, and I really admire those people who manage to be really creative with them :D Perhaps they're a bit difficult to handle and making clothes for, but the cuteness factor more than weighs up to it. I am not for the huge, super realistic dolls much. Some are pretty to look at but I mostly fawn over the cute ones anyway.

I don't think it is all that far into the future before I succumb and buy on myself :3

    16. I love tinies but finding clothing for them is so difficult, wigs never fit my DHS Snow correctly, and the prospect of restringing her is horrifying. So, unless you're willing to deal with those problems and all the other accompanying issues related to the small size...it's probably not worth it. However, being quite a fan of miniatures and willing to put up with the difficulties, I certainly enjoy collecting them :)

    17. I prefer the tinies over SD. My daughter has msd and up, so I was familiar with them, but when I was introduced to a pukipuki at a doll meet I was hooked. Got my first doll as a birthday present, and she still makes me smile. Now I have 3 pukipuki's and 3 little fee's, plus one SD. The large one is more likely to fall over than the tinies, and if the teeny tinies fall, well, they really don't have far to go. I can do my own faceups, use small amounts of fabric to make their clothes, and buying their clothes is a lot cheaper than for the larger ones! Plus, they're pocket dollies! (I don't do the ltf's faceups yet because I need more practice).

Price? Ouch. But the mileage these teenies are getting help offset the cost. Plus, I purchase them in parts, like just a body, or face plate, with no face up or anything. Saves a lot, and they go nearly everywhere with me.

    18. I have a pretty small doll, she's all of 16cm. Compared to my 60cm guys, she was weird at first. A good weird, but still weird. I found her worth it, she's very cute and can just be popped into my purse and carried somewhere. I guess I should mention that I got her secondhand and she was way cheaper that her normal price. However, I don't think I'll be buying another one so small. I like my big guys. I wanted a purse doll, and that's what I got. I think their worth depends on the person buying them, and what they plan to do with their doll.

    19. I absolutely love the tiny dolls! I'm planning on getting a realpuki Soso at some point, because the fact they are so tiny is incredible! Think of all that sculpting, all those tiny joints! I find them utterly worth the money.

    20. No doubt they intrigue me and I've found myself wanting some before - my problem is some of them are as expensive as my MSD boy from Luts! Considering most of my well-made action figures (not even large ones) are actually taller than them... even some keychains are... and they're usually around $200+ when shipping is applied. Everyone can have their own opinion, though... I just find it hard to fathom paying so much for something so small when I know with larger dolls I can get more bang for my buck.
