1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. The Strange Little Things Unique to You in the Hobby?

Jan 15, 2012

    1. This may sound horrible but I play pranks with my doll Rachel.
One of my friends is rather 'creeped out' by my BJD, so when he goes to the bathroom or into the kitchen at my place Rachel always gets moved so as to creep him out.

It's strange but funny, I'd like to think she'd enjoy it if she wasn't an inanimate object; it's in her 'character' I guess. X3

    2. I don't have an actual doll yet, and I don't even know if this counts as weird or not, but I've noticed that with the current doll I'm saving up for, I always compulsively check the site it's sold on to see if it's still available. I do this at least once or twice a week. It's like I' scared that it's going to be discontinued any minute. :sweat
Makes me wonder if I'll do that with my other dolls ...

    3. It's probably not unique to me or all that unusual, but I also have to put a doll's entire outfit on, hair, eyes, everything, then stand them up when I first receive them. There's something about the fact that they can stand on their own that never ceases to amaze me. I love seeing how each one stands a little bit differently than the others. Perhaps it's indicative of personality?

My next little ritual is that each one gets a spot on my bookshelf, but it has to be the *right* one. When Nydia came home, Kasumi immediately gave me grabby-hand vibes and now the girls are inseparable, even though Nydia's only been home for two days. XD

    4. Well, I find it a bit weird, but if I am traveling in the car to visit my parents I have to bring my dolls with. I live in an apartment while I'm going to college and am overly paranoid about someone burning down the building. I would be so upset with myself if I could have avoided losing them by packing them in the back. My dad always asks why I bring them, so I tell him that I just couldn't replace them if something happened. That's what I get for owning limited dolls I guess.

    5. I don't collect BJDs to make specific characters but it's not because I don't want to do so. It's because I'm afraid I'll pick out what I think is the perfect doll to represent a character but when I get the doll home he/she will 'tell' me I got it wrong.

All the time I've been collecting dolls the doll has 'told' me what their names are. It's just something that happens once they get settled in, a name will pop into my head and that is it. How's that for weird. :D

    6. Whenever a doll arrives, I scrap my plans for that day, and give them a faceup and sew them something new to wear. It's like a dolly holiday.

Also, every doll I have has worn this pink yukata I made... I had it listed for sale for months with no interest, so I decided to keep it, and it's since become my favorite quick outfit. It's the thing they wear when I'm sewing for them, so I guess it's something unique to me, even if it's not that strange.

    7. This is a great thread! I just love hearing what everyone is doing. :)

As for myself, I'm kinda like Orion. I need to keep my dolls dressed in the same fashion so they match. I have different themed clothes (modern, japanese, lolita etc.) and I can't have one doll dressed in modern clothes and the others in, say, traditional 18th clothing.

My dolls must also be wearing different colored wigs so there are no two dolls with the exact same color. I don't know why. :sweat

And lastly I always choose the name of my new dolls and figure out their story before they arrive.

    8. I always have to swap out the eye putty. I can't stand about 98% of eye puttys that the companies use. I must have Sticky tack to hold the eyes in, because it's just the perfect amount of hold and sticky. I in almost a panic now that finding sticky tack at my local stores isn't happening (they have switched to command strips), and keep thinking I need to stock up from what I can find on-line.

    9. My dolls each have a theme song as well! As far as arrivals go, when my dolls do get here I make a mii of them in my 3DS so I can carry them around with me everywhere! They aren't really accurate, but I know who they are so that's what counts I guess. I also make sure to take a bajillion and one pictures and keep them on my cellphone so I can show all my friends in my different classes in uni who like dolls.

Also, I'm not sure if this counts as a unique dolly thing or not, but one of my dolls, Winter, was born with a severe hearing impairment. He has a hearing aid that helps him to partially hear in one ear (he's completely deaf in the other), and he speaks ASL (American Sign Language) or in written English with a pad of paper and pen. He doesn't speak, though he does make sounds, like laughing [a lot...], crying [a lot...] and moaning [a lot...*le blushy face*]. His inability to speak is the result of childhood trauma, and not linked to his inability to hear. I guess that is fairly unique set of traits, or so I have been told by a few dolly people.

    10. This really can go into all aspects of the Hobby. It can be about a doll in particular, a message from a company, a very odd stranger, the list goes on.

    11. I don't have many weird or unique things when it comes to the dolls... but one thing I do is always name my dolls after popular existing characters and people. Dorian was named after Dorian Grey, Igor after, well, an Igor... In Blair's case, after the movie "The Witch Blair Project". Icarus is named from the greek myth, Zelda is named after Scott Fitz Gerald's wife, and Monroe is named after the lovely Marylin Monroe :)

I plan to name my next dolls Gatsby and Zorro

    12. ~~This, only mine is a cat. When we moved, the dolls stayed packed for a few days and I couldn't believe how bad I felt when I couldn't see them. I moved them all onto the bed as soon as I could, and that's where they sit. I know some people keep them packed away to avoid yellowing/damage etc., and while I understand their reasoning, I could never do that.

I guess my personal thing is making a point of who sits near who. MSD scale all sit together, SD scale all sit together, sweethearts and family members together. And Komori, my favorite, has to be the one right next to my pillow, and Shao has to be right next to him.
And I change their clothes to be appropriate to the weather, though I know perfectly well they don't feel it. =)
Oh yeah - and when a new one arrives I have to go round and introduce him/her to all the others, and tell him/her who they are and a little about them. (OK, now I really sound weird. :sweat )

    13. My husband thinks it's weird that I wipe them down with baby wipes when they get dirty..? I think it's kind of fun to place my doll in chairs though. My husband is a fan of Seinfeld, and he puts a pez dispenser on a chair to make his friend laugh. So, now it's kind of an inside joke between us when I put Nick on a chair. XD;;;

    14. I discovered something about me that is getting worse and worse... The longer I am part of this hobby the worse it gets. I look at strangers all the time when I'm in the bus or in the city or whereever other people are. And every now and then I see people and think "well that is a great skin colour, my next doll with be in that colour" or "what a beautiful face, he/she would make a great BJD". I'm not sure if I'm still normal but I often mistake humans for BJDs^^

    15. I have to get all of my dolls some kind of necklace that is representative of their character--it's almost like some sort of personal trademark or something.

That...and I tend to pose them all doofy before I leave the house if I'm going somewhere. *dork*

    16. .....I like to take one of my boys to my workout room and sit him in the corner while I lift weights. I just like keeping an eye on at least of them when i'm at home. =)

    17. I've started checking out the spines on BJDs. My own and (with permission) other people's dolls. I LOVE touching their spines and feeling the dip of it. Why? No clue but I'll just be sitting on the couch, watching Netlflix and molesting my dolls spine.

    18. Well, I always seem to be changing the eyes in my dolls. Some have found their permanent eyes but some are still in search of their forever eyes.. I have like 13 pair of eyes between 7 dolls. I also spend more time than needed staring at doll hands. I love their HANDS! Seriously, Micah and 13 have the same hands and I can't stop playing with them.

    19. I suppose my weirdest thing isn't so weird since I've gotten all my dolls second hand but as soon as I open them I tend to take them all apart, wash them, and then scan them for any and all scratches/seams/marks/ staining. I then get to work fixing all the little things I can so that they are, once again, like new. The only thing I havent been able to fix is my MSD's discoloration and yellowing. But he's a little old man in BJD years, so it can't be helped lol.

I also like to carry them around like they are babies, usually with the smaller Koko in Alex's arms and Alex in the crook of my elbow. I'm not sure how that's going to change when I get Altire's body since he'll be so much bigger than Alex, and Athena will be smaller than Koko when she's done. I suppose I'll just walk around carrying four dolls stacked by size lol

    20. I always sit my girl Andrea on a wooden chair next to my TV so when I walk into my room she's the very first thing I see. I usually change her hair, clothes and positions every other day, and I ALWAYS put small toys in her arms or sitting beside her on the chair.
I own several mini-lalaloopsies which look like miniature rag dolls in her arms or I give her my miniature star wars figures to play (4in tall).
