1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

There’s plenty around but none I like…..

    1. You and I have always had a similar aesthetic in dolls. Back in the day a couple of mine I think came from you so I get it your frustration. Lately every outfit I like is $200. I'm just like "Yeah, okay..." The rest of it is really childish looking stuff that there is no way I'm putting on my big dolls.

Every once in a while I like a goth leaning Lolita outfit on my minis but never on the larger dolls and finding stuff that fits my favorite looks that doesn't cost as much as the used doll did is getting very hard.

I get it when it's a handmade OOAK outfit that is very complex but when every simple mass produced outfit coming from China or wherever is priced like that it gets a little frustrating.

These days looking on the resale market for stuff I like for my SD dolls is an exercise in frustration. Every used shirt or pair of pants is $20 and up and even used wigs and eyes and shoes people want pretty much what they paid new or they're just sellers selling new stuff as used.

Etsy in particular it used to be a great place to find reasonably priced basic clothing that people actually made. Every single cool seller that I used to buy basic but very cute clothes from is gone and all the supposedly hand crafted stuff is now being shipped from overseas and is definitely NOT limited, made by crafters stuff. It's the same stuff on eBay, AliExpress etc.

I went away from doll collecting for six years and everything went mass produced and pricey and frankly most of it is pretty boring besides...

I don't spend $200 on an outfit for me. I don't shop dept store prices. I certainly won't spend that on outfitting a doll. That rich I am NOT.

      :P

    2. Oh Lordy do I know this one and agree wholeheartedly!

Thank all for your comments and it’s interesting how many are very similar.
It seems that the basics are sadly lacking for all sizes. That’s what I find anyway, timeless and classic basics whether it’s wig styles and colours or coats, skirts, jeans or shoes, etc.
Pieces that can be mixed and matched, pieces that span fashion categories and eras such as the skirt mentioned by @babezoid or the wig and gothic coat @CloakedSchemer wants. Even finding a decent sloppy or hippyish jumper is surprisingly hard, heck casual boho clothing full stop for any size or gender of doll is very difficult to find.

An example of a flexible basic would be let’s say a brown wool or even velvet waistcoat. Now that could be teamed up with a stylish suit, worn with a t-shirt and jeans for a casual look, teamed up with a poet shirt and tight brownish trousers and riding boots for a more 18th/early 19th century outfit or worn with cropped loose trousers/pants, a simple collarless shirt and oversized jacket for a Hobbit style getup. That’s the kind of things I’d like to see more of.

I also understand that many make things themselves out of that frustration, I keep telling myself I need to learn to do so myself but I’m the queen of procrastination, something I now realise is partially if not completely due to my newly diagnosed neurodiversity and the need for instant perfection that comes with it, going to have to do something though.

    3. Finding futuristic cyberpunk inspired clothes and accessories are hard to come find, particularly for the females. They’re not into the sexy look so I craft and sew. It’s a slow process since I have to design, test, make, remake and refine.

    4. I come from a "poor-people's fashion doll' background *cough* playline Barbies *cough* so my original intention was always to make my own clothes for my dolls. It was nearly 12 years ago, and at that time fur wigs were a thing (before the alpaca and soy kicked off), so I was able to make clothes and fur wigs.

But soon I discovered that e.g. suit tops and shirts are best purchased, because I lack skills and equipment (Okay, right now I'm in the process of designing a shirt, but it's simply because I have a lovely piece of fabric and I cannot let it go!). So I was always into buying some basics e.g. black/blue denims, simple underwear, and white/black suit shirts, as well as belts and ties. I recently purchased a simple suit for one of my boys, but it still needs adjustments, I guess.

Anyway, I honestly resigned from every other side for the sake of my SDs (classic 58cm girls and 62cm boy), so that I wouldn't have to bother trying to find some special fashions. I generally make 99% of all their clothes by myself anyway, but I also dislike struggling with having to find specially-sized items.

I've learnt that rather than deal with frustration, I'd prefer to just resell the doll/head/body. I've done it several times, never missed it. I'm lucky that all the dolls I like are super popular (or, rather, used to be and have been my grails since I jointed the hobby in 2013) and easy/idiot-proof. I've had to have my share of atypical dolls first, however, to appreciate the peace of mind attitude to collecting nowadays lol :D

    5. - oh yes, nowadays it's mostly companies that advertise on ETSY, individual sellers are practically gone. :/

For me - proportionally sized eyes. Not many companies offer these, unfortunately. Additionally, I am dying for a clearly Asian looking girl, with boys it's a bit easier, but girls always_have_those_overly_big_European_eyes... and I want a girl that I can turn into Asian character of mine... :/ Yuxiu from DF-A is that rare example, and of course she's on my list. But other than that - it's hard. :(
