1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Things That You'd Never Do Again

Jun 15, 2013

    1. I agree with the long and curly wigs but I just can't resist them!

Today I learned that I will never again buy a wig from dream of doll....or maybe have wigs without silicone protectors. I found out that my boys wig has been yellowing and staining his head and ears!

Then I learned that the moleskin on my dolls head (that's been there for years) should never have been there, I tried to take it off and the sticky backing of it turned into a gunky ordeal of me frantically scrubbing it off for an hour

I will also never go a long period of time without giving my dolls a quick wipe down with the magic sponge, they get so dirty!!

    2. After this I wll never apply eyelashes again, they are a pain in the ass and they get nasty and dirty so fast and get all clumpy DX

    3. I would never buy a doll just because the opportunity was available. I did this once because I attended an event and there was a doll available at the event that was only sold at similar events. It wasn't worth it. I sold the doll almost immediately, and never really enjoyed any part of my ownership of that doll.

    4. So far I've been mostly lucky. I like long and curly wigs, and have a lot of products to care for them, so no problems there. I did however but a prestyled wig from a Taobao store, and I don't think I'll ever do that again. It was not only styled poorly with lots of loose hairs, but the style is sewn in so I would have to completely take it apart to fix it. Fortunately it was cheap, so no big loss.

    5. Buying just a floating head Dx It's one thing if it's because the company only makes heads, but just to save on costs... no way. Never again. I have one and I just can't do ANYTHING with him. :(

    6. No more mega long wigs (had to trim my gorgeous red wig I bought for my girl to suit her better. Looks good but yeeeaaah...).

No more buying from ebay sellers unless they're reputable (ReleaseRain I have plans to buy a lot of stuff from them again because they pleased me). Or if it's something specific.

      NEVER.BUYING.FROM.YOMIDOLL.AGAIN.

    7. I will never, let feet or hands of my Dolly after covering them with MSC dry outside of the window board when i live on the second floor because, they where on a piece of paper and then it was windy. needless to say they fell to the ground but lucky their where fine. but i had a big scare after that! never again!:doh

    8. If I can help it, I will never buy another doll with thigh jointing, they are SOO annoying. It's bad enough that I'm already too lazy to dress my dolls more often, but then I have loose legs flopping around? Ugh. Whoever said thigh jointing makes posing easier is a liar!

    9. I'm the opposite! Never again will I buy a doll without thigh joints if I can help it! xD; they make my life so much more easier...

    10. Never again will I buy on TOTAL impulse... There have been some dolls that I fell out of love with very quickly or that I was glad I hadn't gotten because things worked out differently with my finances, but I once got a doll on impulse, the day I saw her for sale, and I NEVER bonded with her. (long story short I got her because I thought the doll of my dreams was sold out for another month and I guess I just really wanted a doll.) I've had her for roughly four years, and FINALLY I've decided to let her go, but god knows I've tried to bond with her! I've TRIED. But she won't even tell me who she is. Never again will I buy a doll the day I fall in love with it. I didn't even have a character base in mind for her, or a name... All my other dolls I've at least had a VAGUE idea of who they'd be, and most of them had names before they arrived. I gotta think before I buy!

    11. This, definitely. Plus, I will ask to see the clothes modeled on a BJD before buying them. I've been screwed over too many times by sellers saying clothing is "SD" size, only to find "Magic Attic" or some other doll factory name sewed inside! Now I have clothes that I don't even want to give away, because I know they won't fit anyone's BJDs right!

Also, I have found that if I have the slightest doubts about whether I will like a doll from its sales pictures, I shouldn't buy it. I've ended up selling almost every doll I've had minor or major doubts about. And that includes limiteds that I bought on impulse! I won't buy it just because it's only on sale for a limited time, I will buy it because I love it, have a place for it, and can afford it.

    12. Hurry.

It's no good to hurry anything doll-related, whether it is restringing, doing a face-up, or buying an item. So far I haven't done anything in this hobby that really makes me go AAARGHHH!, but I could have been wiser about a few things, and I have noticed that "wiser" more often than not translates as "more patient". I have bought several items because I wanted something as soon as the thought that I might need X crossed my mind - and as result, I have bought some things that "would do" instead of being exactly what I wanted. And, I have noticed, the thing that was "exactly what I wanted" would show up sooner or later in a shop or on the MP. Like I said, nothing really disastrous, but some money got wasted :/.

    13. I will never again buy anything from Mint On Card. omg.

I will never again assume that feedback is 100% reliable and I will not worry about asking as many questions as I have to until I'm satisfied that I'm actually getting what a seller is promising.

I will never again get a Leeke or Happy Camille wig for any of my dolls.

    14. I will never make a trade for a doll without agreeing on what shipping to use first. I agreed to trade someone (who got banned for hassling someone else after my incident) and it seemed to be going smoothly. She was from Italy, and at the time I really couldn't afford the extra charge to send the doll with the best shipping, so I just sent it with the cheapest I could with insurance. She was FURIOUS. She pmed me multiple times a day telling me off and calling me a scammer. It was right around the time my mom passed away and shook me up really badly. She kept demanding I give her money (the value of the doll) because she hadn't gotten it yet. I stood my ground and said she could either wait for the doll to arrive and keep it, or wait for it to arrive and send it back and I would send her doll back. I guess she decided to keep it because I never heard from her again after that, even after trying to contact her to make sure the doll did get to her.

So yeah. I will ALWAYS remember to plan the shipping first T_T

    15. Leaving out that chest piece thing when restringing a doll... you know, that little piece that keeps the upper chest joint from moving too far back and forth. Never, ever, ever again.

    16. I agree with the no-one-layer-faceup thing for sure.

Also, I will never again handle my doll without washing my hands first, even if I think they're clean. I don't know how my hands get so dirty from something like sewing, but better to be careful about it...

And I will never answer an email about a wig order at 2am after going out on the town :blush

    17. I will never unstring a 90cm doll again because I think he's strung too tight.....OH DEAR :o

    18. No more floating heads? uhh... yea... I've ended up owning as many heads as I do dolls... -___-; I don't know how I feel about this.

    19. I second the whole never buying clothes for a doll without measurements thing. I got an outfit for my SD doll and when it arrived, the shirt and jacket were too tight, and the pants were too loose at the top and too short. I later found out that the measurements for all the outfits were Volks sizes. >.>
Pointed shoes are another one. If I can help it...>.>

    20. I've had bjds since '04 and am pretty easy-going, so I've never had any real problems or regrets. Some not-so-great things have happened, but not through anyone's bad intentions, and not through anything done wrong by me (a couple of people flaked and did not send items, some companies did not do/send what they should have, but I was refunded or sent the right thing eventually). I even don't mind super-long wigs and curly wigs! --And I rarely restring dolls, so that's never bothered me. I've had to pull elastic tighter, but so far, that's been enough... Still, I have a few things I won't do.

      1. Never buy a doll in French Resin. There are UV stabilizers these days, but years ago there weren't, and although the translucent resin was pretty, it totally yellowed in, like, MONTHS. I bought two dolls in French Resin--but the company did not make it clear that's what they were using. So I guess another warning is to be SUPER good at researching EVERYTHING, particularly if there are things you know you won't like if you find out about it. The French Resin dolls were my first dolls in colored resin, and despite keeping one all sealed and in dark when not out and played with, she has yellowed. I still have them both, though, and I have no problems buying colored and tan resins, or white, for that matter. But I do keep in mind that all resin will shift a bit...

      2. Never leave my tiny Tinies lying about. AND, no more TinyBear tiny Brackens for me. They are adorable, but I have lost TWO of them now! I think they are cursed for me. :( One was sitting on a shelf, but my sister came in to clean up and he disappeared, although my Moona and the little furniture he was on are still around. His replacement, I think I might have tossed him along with some papers--I was trying to MSC him a bit and I think he might have got tossed or fell into some crack somewhere! AGH. I hate to think I'm a bad dolly-owner, and the first one was totally NOT my fault, but... AGH! I still buy micro-tinies. I'm just trying to be much more careful with them... but I know there's always a chance something can happen... :(

      3. At Meetups--never forget to double-check that I have every little bit and piece before leaving. I've dropped part of a fullset outfit before--but luckily, someone with sharp eyes spotted it and knew it belonged to me!!! That was scary, though! :doh

All the rest of the pitfalls, I've managed to avoid so far!
