1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Things That You'd Never Do Again

Jun 15, 2013

    1. I will never leave my doll on top of a cabinet again... me=genius whose boy ended up with a broken finger from the experience.

I will never buy a Volks doll again. I hated the posing ability of mine and she just wasn't right - she was cuter in pictures than she was in person for me and I think it's just the look of Volks dolls. Not my taste.

I will never brush a curly wig again. Needless to say, the wig is no longer curly.

    2. LOL my thoughts exactly! Reading all these "never again"'s is definitely helpful! Great idea for a post! I'm new to all this too and so far...no curly wig, no sharp objects, definitely no face ups or restringing! At least not yet...Who knew there could be so much hassle with your little resin buddies?! I'm going to be afraid to even take mine out of the box at this point, lol

    3. Ask my mom about buying expensive BJDs/clothing while she's in a bad mood or watching her Korean dramas. Never again. *shudder*

    4. Buy a doll with fantasy parts (well only one more, but none after that.) Every doll I have has fantasy parts and I have blushed them myself. Way too much work and money; I want humans....

    5. I bought a pair of shoes secondhand for my doll and it smelled... funny.... I had to spray it with stuff over and over again to get rid of the smell... Never again do I want to go through that...

    6. Buying so many outfits before my dolls arrived. I was buying stuff that I found too cute.. but once I looked at what they could change into.. it was just not right. Now I'm slowly getting rid of a lot of my outfits.. slowly, but surely :)

I so would have kept my SD sized girl, bc there seems to be more longer dresses for that size.

I love the long wigs, but I make sure to put them back in their box if I don't have them on a doll, bc they are too costly to let get all tangled up. I've been tempted but I have not bought a styled wig, bc it would suck if it came apart.

    7. Never again will I...
      Buy a curly wig
Leave my dolls standing without being able to lean on something(they fall and broken fingers happen :(...)
Trade a doll for handmade outfits
Have my dolls strung without a resin doughnut or something protecting the resin from s hook sinkage

      I think that's everything...

    8. wait to buy shoes (or a spare wig) until after the doll arrives, it's really annoying having to worry about getting their feet/socks dirty
trust someone else to pose my doll randomly for pictures without a spotter
leave the house with my doll and no magic eraser

    9. I will never buy another doll without a face up either. I have three dolls with out face-ups right now. :( The motivation to send them out is very low. I've a terrible fear of losing them in the post.

I won't buy cheap clothing. I've got a whole bin of cheap and poorly made clothing from when I first started in the hobby. I've learned it's better to have one nice outfit over lots of cheap looking shirts.

I won't attempt to re-string a doll without the proper tools. A few years ago I invested in a set of re-stringing tools from Volks. What a life saver they are. Removing a doll's head is a breeze with them. No more string and ribbon for me.

    10. Never again will I:

Fall in love with a company's photo, and buy the doll without the faceup- the one shown in the photo. And then not know a thing about faceups.

Buy and attempt to apply eyelashes. The eyelashes I bought were too big for the doll I bought them for... And I had no idea what I was doing... so I attempted to cut them to fit... and... yeah ruined the pair. I'd rather paint them on, and I'd say I'm pretty good at it. I'll leave the eyelashes to the companies to apply though.

Oddly enough restringing doesn't bother me, nor does curly wigs. Anju's wig is curly, and while a tad more messy than it was when I got it after years of use, it's still plenty curly and pretty.

    11. I will never paint SD or larger soom fantasy parts. Too much bloody work.

      Soom MSD's ok though. XD

    12. forget that i can just put the head on and pull in the s ring to put the head on.
First experience with a flouting head i forgot that, untied the string and had to pull them super tight through the head and try to tie it on the s hook. was really hard and no where near tight enough, i felt so stupid when i remembered how to do it.

    13. Never settle. If I want a doll costing a certain amount, and I don't want to or can't spend the money for whatever reason - that's it, no doll for me, until such time as I can afford it. Buying a cheaper substitute will never have the same satisfaction because it's not the one I truly wanted, and only resulted in selling later - waste of time and money, ultimately.

Also, don't jump on impulses (unless it's a limited edition that I know can be easily resold if things don't work out). Has thus far done me no good.

And after I received a doll with shipping damage, I've decided in the future ask for dolls to be sent unstrung and with all parts wrapped in bubble wrap. It was luckily an easy fix with epoxy this time and not in a noticeable area to begin with, but I've learned my lesson.

The most important thing I have learned is to be patient. Don't settle. Hang in there and you -will- find the doll, the eyes, the whatever-it-is you are looking for at a relatively reasonable price.

    14. I'm never buying knee high leather boots again. One of my dolls has a pair of them and they are a pain in the butt to get off and on. So are leather pants. They are just awful to try and wiggle my doll into. I learned that leather items and I don't mix unless it's a shirt. XD

    15. Buy a fibre wig before seeing user pictures. They always look different than promo pics.

    16. Never standing my doll on a metal table again. Did that once, he fell face first into the table and now the paint on his lip is chipped, so ya never doing that again.

    17. I agree with never getting a super long wig again. Never settle for a doll when you really love a different one. My then fiance made me settle for a bjd that was appropriate for his family's tastes.

    18. Will never again - own a super tiny or ultra skinny BJD, trim a wig, dress a doll when the neighbor's dog or little girl are visiting, replace eyes without plenty of back-up putty, tug mightily on boot back zippers, pose several BJDs together minus stands, use doll jewelry w/o magnet clasps, stuff a foot into a shoe that "should" fit, believe that the wig will actually stay on "this time" and finally - think that the doll will remain in the same pose I left it in when I exited the room.

    19. Soo true... and not only for dolls!

Never, never again buying a dress or a wig with no exact measurements, no matter what's the price. I've 2 wig and a deadly cute dress that doesn't fit any of my dolls -_-

    20. my friend keeps wanting to do this so she can "just complete her dream doll already" but I keep telling her she's going to be disappointed with a cheap body. I'll be sure to let her know I'm not crazy.
