1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Things That You'd Never Do Again

Jun 15, 2013

1. Never Will I Ever (again):
Wear nail polish while handling a doll. ;_; It was topcoated and should have been sealed but apparently resin is just a nail polish magnet. Thankfully the doll was not body blushed and the mark came off very easily with a magic eraser but yeeeeeeeeeeeeeks!

2. No more SDs, no more boys.
That's about it for me! Everything else I can live with.

3. Well I can definitely name one thing I'd never do again. Go against my instinct. If something tells me I shouldn't buy it,I have to stick with it and not change my mind. I just end up selling doll anyway. Or be inpatient about my face ups and use too much pastel all at once.

4. No more realistic dolls- whether they come from Soom or not!

5. Wow! I think I've learned a lot from other peoples mistakes, thanks! Some of your posts are so funny. :-)

6. Things I will NEVER do again is...

Putting them at the edge of the bed. Charles fell off the bed TWICE right after I opened him up back at my home in Japan. Fortunately, the floor was a tatami, so he had no cracks, or smashed nose. Phew! My mom would have been so pissed at me if I already broke it! *_*

The other thing is, putting them on my baby chair. It was originally a spot where I placed Charles and Hizuru, until one day, my little poodle PEED on Charles! I yelled O SHIT when my mom came running in. She saw the pee, and was like omg poor dolly~, started scolding my dog while he hid under my bed probably realizing his mistake. Afterwards, my mother took off Charles' clothing, and immediately hand washed them, while I washed his shoes and his legs. This was one of the grossest things which ever happened with me. :doh

7. Uwah I have learned so much >.< for me what I will never do again is use water colour pencils without making sure that they will not stain my doll :doh I used some Derwent WC pencils on my angel of Dream Lan and I didn't like the look I gave her so I used some nail polish remover and took it off but on her lips and eye lids there is a stain from the wc pencil of the colour :( I might have to use stronger remover >.< The other was when I first got her she was a bit lose so I decided to string her again , it was ok at first but I did it at night time and on my bed and with only a floor lap as light as my room lights are dead and I cant get the casing off, lets just say it was bad :s I spent over an hour looking for s hooks for her hands which somehow disappeared. And when I was trying to figure out how her feet go on I chipped the edge of where her feet are, you can't notice it unless you pull her feet out but I know its there! Also the last thing is try to "defluff" a wig, she got a long wig but for some reason it looked liked the wig had braids that where then taken out underneath on her wig and I tried cutting it so it wouldn't look so poofed out, now its kind of too short and not really what I was going for >.< and it still is poofy! *_*

8. Ordering Fairyland dolls without their matching sleeping faceplates/heads. And I will never again order a default face-up I don't really really love.

9. As for me I will NEVER
- buy a doll with fantasy parts again - looks like I prefer humans only.
- try to repair a damaged faceup in a hurry - I almost ruined one of my favorite but it's all OK now.
- do a training faceup on a keeper head:(
- buy a doll only out of compassion - always regretting about it afterwards.

10. I will never again: sell a beloved doll and then spend months agonizing over it! Lesson learned!

11. Never again:

• Free faceups for people. I've done several and the owners of the dolls were happy with them (or happy to have me redo them if I wasn't satisfied) but I've been called sloppy and all sorts of other names behind my back for doing a free faceup. You would think that if there was a problem, the owner of the doll head would let me know. Besides, they were free and I did my best on them and sent pictures to the owners to make sure everything was okay. So I've learned that if you do something for free for practice and out of generosity, you're bound to get bitten somehow. Never again.
• Curly wigs without the products to maintain them!
• Super long wigs, such a pain to brush out. ><
• Trying to install eyelashes without tweezers!
• Try to like the large-eyed, small-mouth anime style resin BJDs. I bought a Volks head and it was just too bulbous for me. Luckily, a friend really liked it so no big loss there. Many of our group like the doe-eyed, small-mouth look on their dolls, I tried and I just don't.

12. I am glad I found this thread because not having had a BJD this gives a lot of advice on things newbie's might not think about. Especially leaving them low to the ground where dogs might be able to have access to them! I hope when my first doll arrives I still love her as I did before ordering her. Plus I don't have any eyes or clothes for her or shoes... Just going to have to wait awhile. I was going to order some shoes, but I want to be 100% sure of her foot size before doing that. Luckily I can sew and will make her something to wear after she gets here so I can get a good fit. Thanks everyone for posting these "tips" of sorts.

13. No more synthetic curly wigs for me. It's Tibetan Lamb or nothing. No more cheap wigs, either. "You get what you pay for" really is a thing.

And no more tinies whose hands/feet don't lock on as well as mag on. It's the reason I never take my PukiPukis anywhere.

14. There's not much I'd NEVER do again - I won't buy cheap synthetic 'leather' pants again - cause I can MAKE them and because the pair I had not only barely fit my boy but ended up staining him!!!! Looked good in the pics tho... Speaking of pictures, I will NEVER not back up my photos - both online & in a removable hard drive. Terrible experience w/that :(
I'm interested in why the person dissing Mint on Card did so - I've bought a TON of stuff from them and they are SUPER awesome!!! Got to meet them at Dollism in 2014 as well :D

15. Never ever ever ship my holiest of grail dolls (my Resin Enchanted Doll that I waited 4 years for) anywhere ever again or at least until the US post office figures out how to handle its own registered mail! If she needs another faceup one day I am driving her or flying her to the artist in person!

16. I will never buy a higher priced cloth wig cap from Obitsu again, knowing now the cheaper plus faster delivery silicon ones can be used to make a wig :doh.
Nor will I ever make the mistake that "matte varnish" is the same thing as "matte medium".

17. I don't think I'm ever buying an SD again. My girl doesn't have a faceup yet, or much more than a couple pieces or clothing. They're just so big and clunky, and I have never gotten one to stand.

18. This.

No more SDs for me. I have 3 I bonded with so they're staying but I wish they were smaller like my Soom Metato who is 31.5 cm but looks like a mini SD. After so many SDs I realized that I feel happier with my minis and tinies. I'm always falling for SD sculpts though but I have learned my lesson. Admire them from afar and get the cute minis/tinies instead!

19. I will never ever try to dye my doll without unstringing it again. Oh, and ill never try to dye it with cold water again.

Annd ill never sand off my dolls nipples again, no matter how sharp and awful they are. Knife nipples are arguably better than little discolored nipple dots.

20. No more hot glue sueding ever again. I think some of my dolls will have residual glue residue in them until the day I die.
