1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Too many? (Dolls in drag, / relationships, etc)

Aug 16, 2008

    1. Hey, it's your doll, your rules. What you want them to be is what they should be, no buts about it. If someone thinks your doll should be something other than what they are, you should tell them to get that mold and then they can do what they want with it.

One of my girls only wears frilly, loli-style clothing, that's just how it always has been. My girls are all straight, that's just the way it is: I don't have a problem with homosexuality, in fact I'd welcome Lesbian dolls because then I'd have couples :), but none of my girls fit those profiles, and that's fine.

Dolls will be dolls, that's the best part about them: whatever you imagine and whatever your dreams are come alive in your doll. That's why we love them. :aheartbea

    2. All my dolls do drag. But thats how I like them best! = )

    3. I agree, a lot of things are done to death. Then again, you could go further and argue that these two are done to death;

      Tomboys
      Slutty girls
      Cold hearted bastards
      Cute boys

I myself have a bisexual male doll, and when I buy his male companion- they will be a homosexual pairing, and the character of the second doll will be cute, and occasionally dress in drag. I do not see myself as 'jumping on the bandwagon' so to speak, as it just simply suits the characters I have in mind for these dolls. I agree though that there definately are people out there who identify something as being 'cool' and 'in' and force those aspects onto their dolls in order to fit in with the majority. I would like to think though, that most people have their own, proper reason for using these themes and have not chosen to do so because 'everybody else does it'.

    4. THIS is why I NEED an Iple EID Luo - underneath that typical "college boy look" - (also epicly popular) he really is a bastard just DYING to spank you :nosebleed:

      Ooohps... typed that outloud eh..?

I do think that trands come and go for all of us - however to someone who actually connects to a style; then its not a trend for them, its a preference. For example all my girls are dressed the the fluffiest, foamly lace and ruffle covered outfits with layers upon layers of effervescent tulle - just bursting at the seams with femininity - but one look at their face-ups says something different.... My girls dress girly to the extreme - but are all based on hard-ass characters, that would really really do well with the afore mentioned bastard LOL :wiggle

A few things that I have noticed come in and out of the trend circle are:

      Maid Themes
      Loli Goth
      Military themes
      Fantasy (Animals/Ficticious creatures)

All of which have at one point I'm sure have caught everyones attention - however none really stuck on me.....?

Each to their own and whilst I'm not a fan of Goths or Punk - I still love to see what floats your boat in the galleries - even Punk can be well awesome when interpretted uniquely... Same with Loli Goth - even that when mixed with a little Steampunk is so awesome to see - and yet just not my style and more than sweet dresses that give you tooth-aches do it for others....

    5. LOL That made me laugh so much  Thanks for brightening my day!

I shall definately have to see this doll! If and when he arrives!

    6. Okay, so, according to this thread, the following are turning into cliches/are cliches, or are simply over used:

      Tomboys
      Slutty girls
      Cold hearted bastards
      Cute boys
      Maid Themes
      Loli Goth
      Military themes
      Fantasy (Animals/Ficticious creatures)
      Dolls in drag
      Crossdressing
      Homosexual Pairings
      Androgynous dolls

So... uhm.... when you look at it like that... what else is there to do that wouldn't be considered "overused?" XD;; Aren't you basically screwed with the curse of having nothing being original but having everything be unique no matter what you do? xD

    7. It seems to me the problem is not with unoriginal ideas - after all, everything under the Sun has been done already - but poor execution. Yes, I consciously ignore a gallery that is titled "OMG my wampire so smexy" because it's likely to look immature and predictable. At the same time, the most trivial Cold Hearted Bastard and His Boyfriend theme can be done beautifully, and with an unexpected twist. When done right, it's an archetype. When done wrong, it's boring.

    8. At this time, no- everything we do now, has been done before. There really is no way of doing/gaining anything entirely unique without going to extremes. Sure, might be done in a different way but lets think, the world has been around for so long- every theme will have been covered a lot, in one way or another.

So what we simply have to do is think "oh well, i'll do it my way" and have fun how we want to :)

      Thats my opinion anyway :D

    9. This is the best explanation I've hears so far. I agree with it ^_^

    10. Seconded! I definately agree, I mean some people buy beautiful vampire skulpts and make them look terribly boring and predictable- but a simple skulpt can be made to have such a wonderful and unique (as you can get nowadays) character/appearance

    11. Drag.
Dolls wearing clothes only their gender is 'allowed' to wear.

      Homosexual Pairings.
      Hetero sexual pairings.

      Androgynous dolls.
Dolls that fall into specific gender rolls.

There are more dolls that fall into the second catagory, than the bolded one.
      That's all I'm saying.

    12. It seems there's almost a cliche for EVERYTHING, no matter how one looks at it. Personally, I think people should do whatever they want with their doll if it makes them happy with it. After all, they've already spent a lot on it therefore they should be able to do whatever they want.

    13. But ... it's a hobby. Therefore it's your doll to do whatever you want. If you start trying to cut all cliches just to try to be "original" you're not going to be left with anything ...

EVERYTHING has been done. Whether it's drag, no drag, homosexual couples, heterosexual couples, androgynous, punk, lolita, normal clothing, etc, etc, someone has done it before.

It's a personal thing. I like my gay punk vampire dolls. I'm not going to change them no matter how many gay punk vampire dolls there are out there. ;)

    14. I guess that just leaves mimes. <Masha walks both hands up an invisible wall and frowns at you>

    15. The bolded things are generally considered cliche or overdone because they are so prevalent in dolls compared to real life. Sure there are gothic lolitas in the real world, but they don't make up 70 percent of females, gay men are not 90% of the male population, etc...There's realistic and then there are things that are simply people's fantasy. Nothing wrong with doing whatever you like with your own stories and your own dolls, but a lot of people do get tired of seeing gay emo vampire boy in dress # 79,435. Also a big part of why these things are seen as cliche is because more often than not, these characters are defined by X cliche trait rather than having it be a part of their personality but being a well developed character. I would much rather read a photostory of a realistic character with human emotions, subtleties, and flaws than a cute skirtboi flouncing around being cute. Over the top craziness doesn't make a good story, and if that's all you have, the story seems even worse.

    16. as my finance would tell me "continuing to beat a dead horse wont make it get up again" some things are done to death and some things are done past death past reincarnation and off into some part of the cosmos I cant fathom.

I personaly don't see the appeal to Yoai as with many things my younger peers seem to like, but if its your thing more power to you... just remember.. all things in moderation

In my own weird way I guess I find the doll homo erotic love thing a bit distasteful as my mother is an out lesbian and I have helped numerous male friends come out of the closet. My only problem with it i guess is its not realistic not all Gay males are pretty dose the term "bear" mean anything to anyone? Not all of them are supper feminine I could go on and on but I am getting off topic so I will get off my soapbox.

    17. Haha! Yes I know exactly what you mean, but then again most, if not all the BJD's I have seen (apart from a few bobobie's but I cant like everything!) are pretty! So people dont have much choice. However I do see, and agree with your point ^^

(Though my gay couple *One bi, One not here yet... or saved up for... but still!* are pretty boys >> ahaha)

    18. This is true. But then, a lot of dolls, (most?), aren't realistic. To me, the appeal of this hobby is that it isn't realistic and that yes, the boys are preeeeetty. :sweat

Realism just doesn't do it for me. But, of course, to each his own.

    19. Hm, you seemed to misinterperet what I said.
My meaning was, the title "Too many?" implying that too much of one thing makes it cliche, therefore a girl who wears dresses and likes boys is more cliche than a boy who wears dresses and likes boys. In life thats how it is, and if life imitates art~ Then there ya have it.

I personally dont care about cliches. My boy has abandonment problems mixed with Gender Identity Disorder, in order to get approval he'll put on a skirt for the attention. Big deal.
