1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Travelling with your dolls: issues/ideas/etc. Part I

Aug 20, 2004

    1. I guess I should have explained more... I'm flying cross country and Pierce has to fit in a larger carry on bag with other stuff (my purse, Christmas present, etc) because my laptop is my "personal item" And certainly don't want to check him in my suitcase.

    2. When I went to Japan, I wrapped my MSD in clothes and then put him in a hard tupperware container. This actually went in my suitcase! O_O *probably giving people nightmares* Even on an international flight, he was completely okay and undamaged.

    3. Honestly, I wouldn't take him apart. :0 You can wrap him up like you're talking about without taking his head off! I do it all the time. I wrap Noes' head in a cashmere scarf and then his body gets wrapped up in a knit scarf. It works pretty well, if you ask me~ If you want to be extra cautious, though, I would suggest maybe wrapping his little hands in socks or...something smaller. X3 And THEN wrapping up the body~ Put him in a bag. If there's lots of extra space, you could put another scarf/blanket in there to make sure he doesn't wiggle around.

      Just a thought! That's what I do, and I've never had any accidents (thank goodness).

      (and psst: if you're especially scared of hurting his faceup, you can make a make-shift face-mask...there's a post somewhere around here with people's different techniques -- cutting out the bottom of a dixie cup, fitting it around his head, and then putting liiike...plastic-wrap on the top, or something to that effect. :3)

    4. I sat Sterling (MSD) in a tote bag on top of a folded sweater, with her head/torso wrapped in a sheet of foam (the thin white kind used to pad dishes or computer parts) and took her on the plane with me as a carry-on. I didn't want her tossed around with the luggage.

    5. Could be wrong, but wouldn't the cashmere still rub against his face? I'd try a ziplock bag or saran wrap over his face first, THEN the scarf ^_^

    6. Oh, it does rub, but it's never affected his faceup in any manner. :0 It's very soft and really hasn't caused any problems. Then again, Noes has short/fine eyelashes, so it's pretty impossible to ruin them -- I could shove his head in a sock and I'm fairly positive he'd be fine. :D Not that I would ever do that...ever.

    7. I'd warp his hands in bubblewrap and the rest of him should be okay wrapped in polar fleece. It's soft and also more cushoney than most other fabrics, so he'd be pretty comfy. :)

    8. i know they sell face protector masks, but when my Dry arrived... he had a slurpee style cone drink cup cap over his face, rubber banded on and wrapped in bubble wrap. the bubble wrap might be excessive unless there's a chance your doll head may bonk, but the idea of a cone that prevents any touching and rubbing is probably the most important. even wrapping in saran wrap- the material is nice and clean but friction is a killer. the conical cup-cap is a wonderfully cheap easily replacable and repeatable face-shield. tuck the wig under the edges or use a cloth to prevent burnishing where it touches chin or jaw and you've got 100% protection (no mashed eyelashes or slightly shiny skin from rubbing.)

      that said, the Dry-to-be-named occasionally just hops in a messenger bag with his hoodie pulled down.

    9. I've curled Tristan up into a featal position and put him in one of the two pockets of my bag. I tuck his head down and wrap his arms around his legs. He's an Obitsu, so there is a limit as to how close his knees can get to his head in that position, and he's been fine. I'm not sure how well that would work for a resin doll, since Tristan can't really get shinny.

    10. Well, the one time I took Eron as checked luggage, I put him back in his box, with the wrappings and such that he came in, and surrounded that box with lots of clothes.

    11. Hmm, I did a search but couldn't find anything about a homemade face mask/shield. If anyone has any advice/experience, please share :) Don't really have any fast food/7-11 places near me that I can get to before I leave, but I do have a (hoity toity) grocery store across the street.

    12. I have a face shield for Chiara, but I've had trouble with it staying on if she's not in a bag (lately, she's been sharing with Sai...).

      If you can find small bubblewrap, that may be another option for wrapping exposed parts. It's worked great for both of my dolls so far in the bag, I don't see how it would be troublesome in something non-baglike.

      I've got this issue to work with for when I visit my grandmother as well. It's a good chance I'll only be taking Chiara, as Sai's bag from Dollshe is a bit excessively big, and there is now way in Hockey Sticks that boy is going to be checked for love or money.

    13. I just carried Seiji in my arms on the plane O_o;;

    14. I wrap Adelais in a small fleece blanket I sewed him, and pop him in my purse. XD!

    15. You could make a small box using pieces of cardboard hot glued together, and make sure the width and depth are the correct measurements so that the head won't move. Then you can just make the box tall enough where a lid wouldn't touch the faceup, and keep the box right side up. Don't pack his head while he's wearing a wig, and if he has velcro on his headcap to hold the wig on, you could actually stick a "locking" strip of velcro into the bottom and back of the box to help secure his head.

    16. Someone on the board once mentioned puting a paper cup over your doll's head.

    17. For a makeshift face protector, I just put a ziplock bag over my doll's head to protect the faceup. And then I bubble-wrap his hands.. He's good to go after that!

    18. Actually, I did find a 7-11 on my way home (right down the street too... need to get more familiar with where I live o.O) and took a cup lid. I was going to ask before I did but the clerk was busy ^^;; Anyway, it's a perfect fit, so I just need to poke some holes in the side and attach some ribbon or yarn so I can tie it in place.

      Thanks for all your suggestions everyone (and the pictures, Tamamushiiro!) I feel a lot better traveling with Pierce now. Just need to remember to glue his loose eyelashes in place before I leave ^^;

    19. I do that with my MSD...I know a lot of people probably look at me funny, but the only time she's ever been in a 'case' was when she first came and when I moved to and from Chicago. I flew home from Chicago at least once a month and I put my laptop in my messenger bag and carried Thema. Nobody ever said anything when I had both the laptop and Thema out either. Cause you have to pull it all out to go through the scanner anyway.

    20. Absolutely OT, but... I loves your bag, Unseelie. It had to be said. **death**
