It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Travelling with your dolls: issues/ideas/etc. Part I

Aug 20, 2004

    1. I second that! Where'd you get it?

    2. So I apologize beforehand if this topic has been discussed already but I did try and search it and wayyy too many topics came up because the words are so common.
      So my question is, I am going to be heading down to an anime convention later this month and was completely stuck on how many dolls to take? Is it best to only travel with one so you can always keep an eye on it or is it nicer to take more? What do you guys go?
      We'll be driving by car so it'll be way easier than by plane. I'm also going with a couple other people so they can always watch one boy while I have the other. Ah! I'm so undecided!
      All I know is that Kohya is definitely coming with me.
      Thanks!

    3. Since I have my other half with me most of the time, I can take two dolls around with me - he carries one. I haven't gone on any trips yet but, I am going to be at acen this year and both of my boys will definately be traveling with me then. I can't imagine I would have problems keeping an eye on both of them. Then again, they are both minis so I imagine it would make it a bit easier.

    4. I have only taken a doll on one trip and that was to disneyland last september. I took my tiny because i could fit her in my purse and take pictures of her. I dont really take any of them on longer trips because most of the time i wouldn't be around them because i would be off doing other things. If i was going to a con i would probably take 1 or 2 because it would be easier to carry them around than taking a whole bunch of them.

    5. I'd only take how many I have carriers for. My Rengemaru can fit in a purse, but I dunno if I'd take him. Edmond, my Soo Ri, came with a carrier, so I might take him if I go anywhere he'd need to go >>;

    6. I would feel bad leaving either of my boys at home while I went to have fun, so I would take them both. This is one of the reasons why I don't want many dolls. Giving them a lot of attention is really important to me. I wouldn't have any clue what to do if I couldn't take them all ~_~;;

    7. I'll never take more than one... Even if Nameless does end up with a Ms.Nameless some day, odds are he's the only one I'd take to a con or on vacation with me. Two would just be too much worry, and too much to keep up with.

    8. The most I ever took with me at one time was 4 I believe. Two large boys and 2 mini boys. It was difficult at best to manage them all. Next time I'm sticking to my maximum of 2 dolls. Tasuki comes everywhere with me, but the other doll is usually a toss up between one of the larger boys. People seem to mostly want to see Vincent (Kohya) or Nathaniel (Tan El - tech not home). Xander I think has me wrapped around his lil resin finger though. I guess it depends if I'm going to sell clothes (needing models) or not. *shrugs* It also depends on if I'm driving or taking other forms of transportation.

    9. I'm pondering that question right now.
      I'm going to a con (Arisia) in Boston this weekend, parking at Alewife & taking the T in.
      I need to consider schlepability.
      The most I've ever brought on a trip (not counting meets) was 4--go, go, rolling suitcase.
      I can actually fit all four minis, the in-between guy (CH little jr) & the tiny in that suitcase, with clothes & cushions for all; hopefully the other two tinies will fit, too, when they arrive.

      I don't really want to schlep Hound, say, or Salubia, but I really haven't decided.

      hey, i've got two more evenings

    10. I always take both Nem and Ultraman with me when I travel. Usually I keep Ultraman in a suitcase and carry Nemian with me. Nem is just easier to carry around.

    11. I'd take all. I'm going to go back and forth from New Brunswick to Ontario (14hr drive, 2hr flight) on a plane, and I'll be taking them all in my carry-on. I just hope they all fit w/ my laptop, PS2, etc. etc. (I don't like to leave any electronics in my baggage, everything gets squished/melted! XD)

    12. One is more than a handful for me. I guess I'd feel differently if I had a tiny *daydreams of Yo-SDs, heh*

    13. I've discovered with my two that carrying just them around is a huge challenge. However, at the meet-up in December we ended up with a basket o dolls, and it worked out really, really well. Just be sure there's enough room for them to sit up and the handle is VERY sturdy, and you're good to go. We fit 3 MSDs and 2 SDs into a basket meant to carry 2 MSDs, so it's a rather versatile, if short-term, carrier. Just beware of wigs falling off ^^;

    14. As far as air travel/other state, I've only "travelled" with a doll twice, one doll each time (and the second was just to transport a doll home). If I'm just going to a meetup, I take a few of them and put them into a rolling cart. If I have to carry them, three was my max, and that was a PITA. One is much easier. Of course, if they're tinies, I can pile the whole lot into a purse and have done with it.

      I'm currently trying to figure out who I'm taking to the BJD Convention in September, and the best way to transport them via air.

    15. I've traveled on a plane with three (2 SDs and an MSD) before. I kept them in my *cough* "purse."

    16. ROFL... My teacher says my *cough* "purse" resembles a small suitcase.

      And I travel with my boy, Adelais- because he's small. ANd although my girls are the same size, for some reason, they're ACCIDENT PRONE(Adelais has only 'almost fallen' a few times. My girls fall all the time or slide around, have face-up accidents...)... and attract really bad Criticism.(Whenever I take my boy out, nothing happens- my girls, all sorts of hissyfitty people! Weird!)

      Besides which, Adelais is such a relaxing travel partner. :D

    17. when I travel a long way or by plane, I take one doll, almost always an MSD or something smaller.

      if I'm driving to a convention, then I'll take maybe 2 or 3

    18. I've been wondering about this myself. When I've gone to local doll meets I've taken all of my boys with me but I'm pretty sure that would be insane for a vacation. I almost took Magnus to Italy with me so I could photograph him in Venice, but the thought of him toppling into a canal teriffied me. :shudder

      I think one is the loneliest number but it might be the most I'd be willing to travel with. I'd have to flip a coin to pick which one though. -_-

    19. I took two dolls with me to Canada in December. I have mini-sized girls, so it wasn't that bad; I stuffed 'em--and practically all of their accessories!--in my rolling carry-on and they were fine. Of course, my experience is probably a little different, since I was visiting a friend and staying at her home (which is located in a modestly wealthy rural community). I didn't have to worry about anything happening my dolls when we left the house, and it never occurred to me to bring them with us.

    20. WOW thanks for all the response and ideas guys!
      So far I'm going to take an MSD and an SD so now my only decision is if I should take 2 SD's or just one.
      I'd love to take my Hound but they are so much bigger >_<
