1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Travelling with your dolls: issues/ideas/etc. Part I

Aug 20, 2004

    1. This is a good question. I went to a meetup last weekend and brought all three of mine. It was a bit of a hassle and I did wish I could've spent less time keeping track of everyone and more time admiring other people's dolls.

On the other hand I don't know who to bring if I just brought one or two. Juniper is my oldest, my favorite and most dear, so she'd be the first I think of. But Koushirou is the one like to people see, and the one who gets the most attention. And Charlie is the one who likes other's attention the most. Koushirou resents being so cute-- he often wishes people would just leave him alone, heh. He'd volunteer to be left behind :P

I can fit all three in the case my DoC came with though! It's amazing.

Looks like you have five dolls. That's a -lot- to deal with. I wouldn't be comfertable taking that many, I think my max would be three.

    2. I take one when I travel overseas, and 2 or all 3 when I just travel locally to a meet-up or con. ^_^

EDIT: Forgot to mention that mine are MSDs, so they are easier to bring around than the big ones!

    3. Take as many as you can handle. Two minis or one larger dolls is what I can handle at one time personally, but it's relative to the individual. I know some people who can carry around 4 or 5 large dolls and not seem bothered by it. ^^;

    4. One or two, depends on where I am going and for how long. Never more than two.

    5. I recently went on a trip with Kumiko-chan in tow. The only problem I had was when I packed a dagger I had bought in my bag and forgot about it (doh! *_*) and she was in it. I just told the guard to be careful and she was fine. Though she WAS very heavy, LOL.

    6. I ended up having to slide my boy through and the only bad thing that happened was that his wig came off when he was coming out. You know how they have the rubber flaps that hang down? They just pushed it right off his head. I picked it up, gave a "What are you looking at?" look to the scanning guy, put it back on and left.

    7. Huh...America West didn't make me do that with Yori....she went through box and all, and it was a FULL plane. I'm taking two of the big girls in a carrier bag placed inside a duffel tomorrow, so hopefully they won't squawk.

    8. Djinn and I have gone to Japan, Hong Kong and America [LA specifically] and back to Singapore and we haven't had any problems at all when they're scanning. The only thing we got asked over for was the Volks s-hook puller because of its screwdriver-like handle. XD; [Whereupon we explained that they're held together with elastic and so needed it to pull the elastic in certain situations. But it's a lot more advisable to put it in the check-in luggage. ^^;;]

      We did get the mandatory O_O ::pulls the belt back and forth:: from the officers when they were looking at the scan, but usually a "Um, it's a doll." is usually enough because I think they just want confirmation that you aren't smuggling small people. XD;;

[Also, we mostly insistently stick the Volks carrier bag diagonally into the space under the seat in front. If anything, we put them up in the overhead compartment ourselves carefully.]

    9. Um... do they let you hold your doll in your lap??

Mikos doesn't have a carry case, and if I ever go on a plane I'd like to keep him with me (mainly to help me relax- I hate flying!). I wouldn't want to put him in an overhead compartment, or anything like that....

    10. I've taken Nanashi wrapped up in my messenger bag, however, The guy on the scanner did give me this wierd look. I have to admit the worst experiance I ever had was taking a painting with me through the X-ray. I put it in the bucket, and the guy looks in to see if there is room inside it and sets someone elses bag ontop of my painting I almost had a heart attack!

    11. Since every airport and security person is different, who knows what you might run into. I have had most wave me by and then every once in a while somebody wants to rifle through a bag bigtime when there's nothing there. I remember them getting all uptight when (pre 9-11) I took a bag with rollerblades (Steel frame - probably lit up like a Christmas tree) in it.

If your old enough and they want to go through your doll case, tell them your in the business (sales rep for whoever).

    12. XDDDDD
"weird mental image of kyuubi attracting stuff "

I gotta say, as freakin hysterical as they´re getting with security here (and all over Europe to my concern) I did not have trouble at alll travelling with Kyuubi last summer, didnot have my carrier yet so she was just stuck in a backpack with her pillows

I did put her in the belt myself though, to avoid grabby hands or mistreatment, the screen guys looked at each other like..O_O but nothing else happened...

yeah I guess in the middle of a holyday season with all the delays and overbooking mess they tend to be far less picky about stuff

"another weird mental image of a hyjacker doll forcing a plane to land at volks L.A. to get new stuffXD"

    13. Hello!

I was just thinking, I may be going on a big trip soon, but I don't know what to do with my new BJD!

She's my first BJD, so I don't want ANYTHING bad to happen to her. So I just have a question.

What do you do with your doll when you go on vacation? Do you take him/her with you? Do you leave your doll in someone else's care?

I'm asking these questions out of curiosity and because I want to know what you all think is the safest thing to do with your doll or dolls when you leave your home! Thanks!!

    14. I'm planning on taking Ilú with me when I go to Kyoto in a few weeks and to Germany over the summer. I've got a doll carrier from Volks to cart him round in, and I'll be keeping a constant eye on him while I'm there so I don't forsee any problems. It's a good opportunity for interesting photographs, too!

    15. I drag Shin and Jeromie just about everywhere >> School, store, wig shop... why not vacation? ^^ I like the photo opportunities there, and all, and its fun just to take them out

    16. I plan on taking at least one of the guys with me... But which one really depends on where we're going. ^_^

    17. ^^; Oh, to have the money for a vacation. When I work, I'm lucky to get lunch breaks. XD

I don't take my dolls anywhere unless I'm going to be gone for a long period of time (like, Christmas!). I didn't even take them home for my birthday. XD; I leave them in my room, close the door and lock the apartment.

    18. I'm going to Japan soon, but I'm deathly afraid to take him with me. Being my first doll and all....I'm not so much afraid to TAKE him as I am afraid of what will happen when I reach security check points. so as much as I'd love to take him, he will have to remain at home in his box in the closet, until I get better....too paranoid to leave him just sitting on my bed when I'm gone for a week...perhaps longer this time. O_o

    19. I have yet to bring Ryu on a long vacation, but if it was for a week or more, I'd bring him with me.

All up to you though, if you know that it won't be that much of a hectic trip, bring your doll with you ^^ They'll keep you company and it's not really an everyday opportunity to go out of town with your doll (not for me anyways...)

    20. I usually bring my Shuien along with me. Its feel better if my dear Shuien will be able to experience the places I go to as well as take pictures of him <3.
