Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Travelling with your dolls: issues/ideas/etc. Part I

Aug 20, 2004

    1. (((hugs)))

That is so sad to hear that your Ellian and Seisha's head are lost! :( I would be so sad if that happened to me, I'll take this as a warning to put them only in my carry-on! I don't know anything about recovering missing luggage, but I really hope you get them back.

    2. You said it's been hours?

I know it's hard, but try not to worry too much just yet. Keep calling the airlines and asking them about it for a few days. Sometimes luggage will get delayed in transit and not arrive for a day or two after you do. Just keep calling and asking - go by the airport, too, sometimes the workers are more willing to speak to you in person than over the phone.

It's rough, and upsetting, I know - I've lost one of my kids this way as well, but! Four days later, I got a call from the airline that they'd found my luggage. I went down and was able to pick it up just a few hours later, and everything was fine.

I'm sure things will work out okay. <3

    3. *nod nod* I'll definitely tell people if and when I get them back or if I dont.....heaven forbid I dont. I cant even imagine what might happen to them.

    4. I definitely hope so. What happened was I ended up having to wait because the flight I was on was overbooked and so even my original destination changed....but even then I knew the flight number and the arrival location of my original destination....and it wasnt there OR where I ended up...

    5. Oh, you were overbooked? In that case, it's even more likely that your suitcase is sitting at another airport, just waiting for a flight with enough room to come home on. <3 It's happened to me more than once. Luggage sometimes gets rerouted in the most ridiculous of ways! XE

    6. Exactly how big are the Volks SD carriers? I want to make sure before I shell out the money for one, that it'll be okay with my airline for my flight to Florida this June. Their fragile/special baggage requirements read like stereo instructions and I don't want to get a hassle when I check in, so I'm taking preventative measures. ^^

    7. hmmm has anyone done this?
      does it feel weird?
and lastly how to bring them??? [in the bag?, carry em?]

<=== is intending to bring my tanned Hound to europe when i go over in july [who lives there? :D]

    8. When i went to Japan last year, i brought Heisa on the plane in his DOD bag. There wasn't any fuss..

This year, when i moved to Brisbane for study, i put him(in his DOD bag) into my suitcase and checked it in. I wanted to bring Renji and Ciaran(i was bringing him over for Sena) onto to plane with me in the Luts bag.. But my luggage was overweight and i had to check them in and bring my heavier bag onto the plane as hand-carry luggage..

So yeah, there goes my doll/plane adventures. o.O

    9. Airlines usually let you bring one (sometimes two) carry on bag, and you can keep it under your seat which is probably better for a doll carrier than in the overhead. ^^

    10. From my experience it's two carryons, but you have to stow one in the overhead compartment.

    11. I travel with mine all the time. When I only had one or two I put them in a bag the size of a large purse and carried them on. During the flight they came out and one of the flight attendants and several passengers became very interested. There was much cuddling and showing off of dolls.

When I went to San Francisco a month ago I had seven dolls with me all nestled safely in a rolling carry on. On one flight they wanted me to check that bag, but there was no way I was going to be parted from it and after a few firm words, I was allowed to keep it with me.

Just be careful how you pack them. Use a face shield and be aware that shoes and boots can leave marks on the dolls nearby if they're packed close together. My kids always need a good bath after a trip.

Yes, it can be a bit of a hassle, but I like to have my resin kids with me wherever I go.

    12. hmmm how about taking them out of the bag and carrying them??? i want to hold ritsuka :D

Ritsuka: do they allow me to take pictures with the babes on the plane? [he means air stewardess]

    13. I've just taken the opportunity to merge four threads on the subject of taking dolls with you on your travels. :daisy

    14. ah thanx :D

well i am scared as its my first time bringing anywhere outside of my own country :D

    15. Ooo, I'm so excited to take Roo on the plane... XD As a college student living out-of-state (like... way out-of-state), I fly back and forth from school to home several times a year. I'm getting pretty good at the carry-on thing... I've decided that my favorite bag to use is a rolling laptop case ;D So conveniant.

And now I'm going to have to learn to make space for my laptop, my camera, my purse/essentials, and... an MSD 8D I have a whole photostory planned for Roo's first flight and everything.

One thing that worries me about getting multiple dolls is taking all of them home with me XD I think I'd have to learn to just leave them behind over breaks.

Luckily I have practice taking delicate things on planes :'D I transport my dear hermit crabs home over breaks all the time - haven't lost one yet! :3

    16. most recient convention, I bought a bag for my boy that his head was sticking out of...he didnt care for it so neither did I....well now he has a nice samurai champloo bag, that I like...and he loves, so thats going to end up being his travel bag

    17. hmmm

so u pack them into bags until u on the plane and then bring them out?

    18. The last time I flew, I carried Ko in my arms, and my obitsu head in my purse
I got quite a few funny looks when they were scanned, but I had no problems otherwise.
Had a few people eyeball him in my arms on the plane too, but no one said a thing o 3o

    19. I have taken my dolls around, on trains, airplanes, car rides the like. I have never taken more then 2 dolls at once.

      Dolls on planes:
I do not reccomend bringing more then 2 full sized dolls. I wouldn't put them in a suitcase, but in a backpack, or what I do I but them in a carrier. It fits 2 dolls well. Once I get on the plane, I prefer not to take my dolls out, but whatever. I sit by the window and hid the case under the seat/near my feet until the flight has taken off. Even if the flight attendent sees the bag, they usually don't say anything. A good type is that black carriers look more expensive then other colors and people tend to leave you along more. I have only had to put a doll in overhead once. It turned out fine, but I was nervous the who time. I made sure that the attendent knew it was valueable and didn't put it in the same bin as a heavy metal suitcase, that could slid and crush the babies!*_*

Customs: If you are going to a country that is not japan or spain, and that is unstable or you are very unfamilar with, I wouldn't bring dolls. But really its a at your own risk thing.

Dolls on trains: people I have found get more nervous if you have a big case on a train. But usually as long as you have a row of seats to your party/yourself and you have someone watching at all times you are ok. That is assuming they let it on in the first place. Sercurity isn't usually as tight, but they stop suspect bags. I use a bagpack. Its never checked and if they think the doll is a doll or a gift they usually leave it alone *Note airport security are much more suspect of you and the toy/gift thing has never worked for me if questioned, I tell the truth*

      Dolls in cars:
easy yeah. Stick in the back or trunk, have them ride up inthe front with you. Scare some truck drivers. Just make sure that your car isn't broken into or that if you leave them in the truck, they don't get overheated.

Hope that helps. If anyone has any questions feel free to PM me.

    20. erm i am going to europe... and i'll probbly stuff him in a SD16 cushion bag and into my laptop haversack...

      any problem?

      *nervous*

i plan to tour europe at the same time, since i am going there for my graduation ceremony... :D
