1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Travelling with your dolls: issues/ideas/etc. Part I

Aug 20, 2004

    1. Another option might be to unstring the doll and pack them that way... then they'd be more portible, and the really delicate bits like hands could be tucked away in your pocket even for protection.

    2. I'd rather be paranoid and double check than get a hassle later. I haven't flown since I was five, so I'll be nervous enough without having to worry about Azure.

    3. I"m assuming I will get weird looks when I put my carryon with dolls in it on the x-rayer, but there's no way in heck I'm checking them... omg no....

    4. hmmm yeah im glad this thread was revived ive been wondering what to do myself. now i have a fair idea ad i think all will be right.

a bit off topic but has anyone here tried to carry on guitars before with any luck??

    5. I've carried a trombone international and my sister had her guitar and there was no problem.

    6. hmmm how about a hound in a violin box? less suspicious.... hahahaha

although i know he wun fit :P

    7. I promised my work friends I would bring my boy in to meet them but I dont have a DOD bag to carry him and I dont wanna put him in the DOD box he came in because its massive.

Any suggestions on the best way to carry your doll around?

I could just carry him in my arms but I commute almost 2 hours each way and am paranoid something might happen to him if I accidently nodded off to sleep or people touching him or knocking him out of my arms on a busy train station. :...(

    8. I used to worry about that, but I;ve carried Mikos in my arms dozens of times without incident...

If you are really worried, though, maybe put him in a backpack. I sometimes carry Mikos in my laptop carry-bag (without the laptop in it, obviously!) and he has a good safe ride in it.

    9. Well, if you haven't DOD carry-bag then use another you have and if you're really afraid then put cushions or/and towels inside.

    10. I have three huge squares of fleece fabric I cut to wrap my dolls in when I put them in my bag.

As long as the interioir of your bag is quite clean, and free from anything that could scratch or stain your doll, there's no reason he cant go in a rucksack. Wrap him up well-if his wig is long bag it as it'l get mussed up, and relax. You can take some cute pictures of him peeking out of your bag to look at the scenery.
Considering the things Ive seen people take on the train, no-one will look twice-if they do, they're more likely to say 'Oh-cute!' and then carry on as normal. Just make sure no-one sits on him, and you dont leave him behind!

    11. Mmm... I assume you're talking about the Lahoo in your signature, yes? Did he come wrapped up with two purple cushion things? If you lay one of those in the bottom of a shoulder back or backpack (Along the bottom and up one side, if it's long enough), sit him on top of it with his back against the padded side and his knees drawn up, stick the other one (Or a folded towel, or anything like that) on top, fill the rest of the space in with the other stuff you need (As long as it's nothing too heavy and nothing that's gonna slip down the side and scratch him - put keys and stuff in your pockets) and he should be perfectly fine. If it's a long train journey you could always get him out for the most of it and just put him back before you get to your station. Business suit and doll - great combination ^.^

    12. I must say, these dolls are really a little more resiliant than most people know....I was at Megacon in florida....and Alexis was standing on a table for everyone to see....not once, but TWICE she took a swan-dive to the concrete floor, and my HEART stopped, but i picked her up, and she was fine. Not a SCRATCH.....My Mykal took a swan-dive from a chest high table at Cafe-TuTu Tango, where i work on clothes in front of everyone as a job, and he did this twice....Not a scratch.....
Generally speaking, i think these dolls really are a little more resiliant than people give them credit for. NOT that i'd reccoment throwing them to the floor to test that theory..........:nosebleed

    13. Mike fell face first onto concrete and chipped his nose. He was standing on it. So for his head it was a 2 foot fall...I don't think they are THAT resiliant. Then again, my Cory fell a good 4-5 feet at the same time onto the same concrete...not a scratch.

    14. Goblin (my Juri head) dived off the top of my wardrobe (7 feet?) onto tiles, and came away unscathed. I nearly died.

Impact damage is all about angles... *_*

    15. The backpack is a good ideal. I prefer to use a gym bap they are alittle bit bigger. Make sure to wrap the face up with soft cloth. I stuffed mine in a small bag witha friends doll and used a jaket to keep them from touching. Well my doll makeup got scratched and I almost cried. luckly my friend was able to fix it. So wrap faces up is a good thing.

    16. My guys (60cm Delf boys and a 70cm Hound) ride in a Columbia courier bag when I take any of them out with me... It's lightly padded, easy to carry, and if you sit them in it kneeling, it's the perfect height (Even for a gangly-boy Hound-) and they won't do any shifting around.

    17. I just put a few cushions in a schoolbag, and sit Raz snuggly in the middle of them.

    18. Hmmm... How about one of those good old canvas bags that you used to be able to get at libraries? Add a few cushions and he has a comphy ride.

    19. A friend gave me a black ripstop nylon bag made by "LeSportsac". It's about the right length for an SD and it has room to carry other items. It also has a shoulder strap and two outside pockets. I wrap my Kikyou in two soft towels (saved for traveling) before placing him inside. Kikyou complains at being inside the bag by making his legs go all crazy but at least the bag is light (for me to carry) and it is rain repellant. :)

    20. I plan on using my Tokidoki tote bag when my boy gets here, after all my school stuff is emptied from it. I think a canvas tote bag would work really nicely for carrying a doll.
