1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Travelling with your dolls: issues/ideas/etc. Part I

Aug 20, 2004

    1. Thanks for your help guys!! I've got the adress of my new house, so I'll mail them along with the computers.

    2. I would definately mail them. Lord, if I had to move, I'd drive. I got WAY too many to even think about mailing.

    3. LOL, well. I would if it was an option. xD One, I'm 14. And even if I had my liscense, I couldn't drive into California. They just changed the law so that you can't drive until you're 18, unless you already have your liscense. Which angers me. T__T;

    4. I agree with the mailing idea: when I moved, I had one doll shipped and the other I put in my carry on during the plane trip (I didn't have enough room in my bag for both). It was very painless and worry-free, I wrapped them both in bubble wrap, put on face plates, and they arrived just fine. Plus, I had no trouble with taking one on the plane, like extra inspection so they coudl figure out what it was. XD Just to be sure to choose a good and secure shipping method if you go that route, cause there has been a lot of missing packages with certain services, sadly. :huh?:

    5. I moved from Europe to Asia last summer. I bubblewrap them, wrapped them in clothing and put my girls in my luggage. They came out just fine :)

    6. Something to consider with putting them in carry-ons. Remember the liquid scare last year? People who were carrying things that a few hours earlier had been just fine suddenly had to abandon them (or not fly), and some flights weren't allowing any carry-ons at all. Hopefully nothing like that will happen, but if it did, you might be able to put them (unprotected) into your checked luggage, or you might not. It's unlikely, but it is possible that you could end up in an "abandon them or don't fly" situation. I don't know how your parents would react to that.

Honestly, I think your best option is to pack them up very securely, and either mail them to your new address or (less preferable) have the movers take them Whichever you do, make sure they're insured.

    7. I moved from australia to japan and back again. I took them apart, wrapped them in bubble wrap and posted them, and took one on the plane with me. Not a scratch on any of them.

    8. I think I'd be too paranoid to do anything but take them on the plain with me. >>;;

Otherwise I'd buble wrap them to hell and put them in my luggage.

    9. I've moved halfway across the world with my three MSDs. I just put them into a carrier or box, make sure that that is well padded inside (with clothes or something else that's soft), and then pack that into my luggage like I would any other fragile object (making sure it's surrounded on all sides by clothing, etc.).

    10. I'm moving across town, but I'm still putting the boys in their original boxes to move 'em. Quite frankly, I won't have time or the energy to keep track of them until after everything is moved, and if they're in the boxes I know they'll be safe! Elfdoll has an awesome box, a foam sheet with a cut-out of the doll, they slip right in and are really secure.

Moving is such a hassle, uuugh. *_*

    11. and you'd think "Body parts" would be questionable luggage!!!

    12. When we moved it was by car, so I can't help much with plane, but I used the original boxes and padded them good.

Airports beat the hell out of luggage, I've watched them throw suitcases through the air onto the transport to the plane. Its probably safest to use Insured shipping with Signature required (so its not left on your porch to be stolen.) you could use a bunch of bubble pack, nice big boxes, and not have to worry as much.

    13. I just had a fantastic time traveling with my mini. I wrapped her up in a pashmina and tucked her into my big purse or the flap bag I used as a carry on. No one questioned her in my carry on while getting x-rayed, or on my lap during the flight.
I had her in purse during both musicals on Broadway we went to, as well as all the other touristy things we did. I just made sure my purse was firmly zipped and that Ella couldn't escape with my credit card while at Tiffany's, FAO Schwartz, and F2BM.
She and I even made it (albiet breifly) on the Today Show! I would definately travel with her again!

    14. I did not find this anywhere, but are dolls allowed on the board of an airoplane? When you travel.....

I know they do not allow a lot of things, but I want to know if dollies are allowed.
      There are things like :
      - only 100ml of liquid,
-no sharp objects like scissors and so on...

Please tell me your experience, if you were flying with doll/s, what was the reaction of the people who check all your things before you enter the plane?

      Thank youfor your help!

    15. They're perfectly acceptable and no one ever said a word about my doll/dolls. I'm pretty sure that if you carry them in your arms that they'll be counted as one of your carry-ons due to their size, so be sure to keep them contained in a bag of some kind, even if that means they're sitting in your purse with their head sticking out. You shouldn't have any trouble at all though... those airport people have seen weirder things than us, I promise.

    16. I usually travel with mine in a carrying case and call it my purse, cause I have a backpack too. No one's said I can't bring a doll, though I've seen the screeners laugh when they're going through security. I've also traveled overseas and had no problem. I'd be a little scared to take my doll w/o a case though, just because he could get scratched or bumped into.

    17. There is an entire thread about this already...I don't have the link. But I read the entire thing, as I'm flying with my dolls for the first time this Friday. (panic!)

What I basically got from the thread was:

      1. Don't pack your doll into your suitcase if you can help it. I you must pack your doll in your suitcase, be careful about it, wrap it well. And there were no horror stories about dolls lost or broken from being put into a suitcase.

      2. Have a doll carrier for your doll. Getting an actual doll carrier is nice, but modifying a bag or something to carry your doll in is fine to. This doll carrier will count as one your two carry on items. (Put your purse in the doll carrier, and then besides the doll carrier you can have another small bag or something).

      3. Carry your doll in your arms is okay. When/If people give you strange looks (and you care about such), you can always create an 'niece' or someone that your taking the doll to. Or your borrowing their doll to get it clothes while on your trip and want to make sure they fit. (shrugs)

      I hope this helps.

    18. Thank you! thats a relief....:)

    19. I put Orly in his doll bag and put the bag in the overhead. It fit fine and the worst I got from it was security doing a double take lol

I'd like to carry him or Contessa in my lap sometime but I dunno how cool the airlines would be with that.

Basically if you're concerned, call the airline company you plan on flying with and ask. I checked my airline's website to make sure Orly's bag didn't exceed the maximum dimensions before I chose how to take him with me.

As for liquids and sharp things... uh, I can't imagine your doll having liquids in or on it and as far as my airline went, restrictions on sharp things were mild enough I could take my crochett needles and my tiny sewing scissors as carry on with me.
