1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Travelling with your dolls: issues/ideas/etc. Part I

Aug 20, 2004

    1. Seriously? I just can't see anyone using a bjd of all things for drugs or explosives. Though it'd be amusing to see if airport custom could get off some of the more stubborn headcaps.

    2. I ordered two of the them other day so I'll have double the space even if it's just a small space.;) If my Sr. Delf gets here in time, he'll be traveling w/ my SD16G, SD16B & a SD13B. So you're probably right, I'll end up carrying most of my "carry-on" stuff some other way. Thanks!

      Morgan

    3. I've never had a problem. I took one of my 27cm's with me through Chicago to Myrtle Beach and no one said anything, she was just tucked away safely in a box.:)

    4. That... would be amusing.

If the end result weren't so traumatizing for both owner & doll. D:

    5. I'm moving to Singapore in July and thats why I'm torn between buying a doll now while I'm still in the US or waiting until I'm settled down over there before buying a doll. I'm worried that if I get one now, it's almost a 26 hours flight and while I won't be able to take any sleeping meds like last time (my dad gave me ambien and we didn't know I was allergic to it so I stopped breathing it was a nightmare) I don't want to loose my doll or risk something happening. Good idea for this thread it's really really helpful!

    6. Okay... So I'm taking a trip. A rather big one. (Across the United States)

And, I was wondering about being able to take my boy, Nabi, through airport security and on the plane with me.

They're pretty weird about what you can and can't bring on planes now, and I'm not sure if they'd delay me because he's got s-hooks inside him or not. It's a requirement that he comes, but I also want as little hassle as possible.

Anyone taken a doll on a plane recently? Ideas?

(If this doesn't belong here, go ahead and move it.)

    7. It's fine! I've taken my boy on a trip to Taiwan once (15 hours) and had no problems ^^

    8. I traveled with one of my SD-sized dolls... I think it was JUST after all the bans on liquids went into effect--so security was super-high.

I had no problem with my doll in my carry-on, since he wasn't liquid at all... And his S-hooks didn't alarm anyone at the x-ray machine. No comments at all! :)

I had him with a face-protector on, in one of fujiwara's padded cozy-sacks, in a sitting position in a regular sized shopping-bag-style nylon bag (with zipper). In a sitting position he could fit in bags where I could also put my sweater/jacket to wear in case the plane got cold, (also makes for nice extra padding!) and carry some other extras, AND he could go under the seat where I could keep an eye on him and where he was in no danger of getting crushed by other bags in the overheads.

I was glad I had him with me all the way. One of my checked baggage was lost for several days after I arrived! That was bad, since the airline claimed they didn't know where it was for a while. I finally got it, but I would have been frantic if it had contained my doll!

    9. I brought Shoujiki back with my in carry-on (I bought him in Japan XD) and I was wondering what security would say, but they didn't even dig through my bag for a closer look. He went through the X-ray, and came out, and I went on! XD

    10. Dolls are definetely A-OK for carryon. I've traveled a lot with Lan and never had a problem.

    11. Like everyone says, you should be fine. ^__^
I flew from Minnesota to Florida and back this January, and brough Damaetas (CP DV Shiwoo) with on the plane both times. I had him in my carry-on backpack, and just sent it through the x-ray machine, then took him out of the bag once I was on the plane and held him in my lap during the flights, just shoving the bag in the 'under seat' storage area. ^o^

    12. Hmmm...I suppose I'm the oddball out then >.< The last time I took one of my boys on a plane, they did get worried about the metal S-hooks and had to check and make sure he wasn't a bomb o_O

      Other than that, though, no real problem ^_^;;;;;

    13. If at all possible, avoide checking your doll; simply because of the possibility of the a/l losing your bag and of course the ROUGH handling of the luggage.
Never bring a metal doll stand; I got stopped at LAX and they literally took everything out, including my boy...which caused a lot of interesting stares...
If you lay out your ~60cmSDs, they will probably have to go into the upper luggage compartment. Watch out that people don't jam or toss their junk on top of your doll bag.
If you fold the 60cmSD in a seated position, s/he will fit under the chair in front of you. I carried my boy that way; I had to know my boy was safe with me. :)
      Have a nice flight.:daisy

    14. i kinda carried my boy by hand the last time i was on a plane no bagz juz him hand carried LOL

    15. Nope, the first time St. James and I took Sewek (Hewitt II) on a plane we flew out of the Oakland, CA airport. It was just a short domestic flight to LA. The lady doing the screening wanted to take him out of the carry on bag and have a look at him. He was quite bundled up, and when we tried to tell her he was breakable and valuable the (in)security guy went a little nuts and yelled at us! Sewek got his tummy swabbed for explosives!:o I have since packed them with their bodies bundled in a scarf and their heads and face cups exposed.

When we flew internationally (to Tokyo) with two dolls nobody cared. They went through screening in and out, easy peas. They did not respond well to the three mini bottles of shampoo, conditioner and moisturizer flying out of San Francisco, and they told us never to pack them in a bag side by side again. :? Okay, from now on we'll keep them segregated in different compartments of the carry-on.

I have to think that at this point most screeners at major airports have seen a BJD or two.

    16. I took my AR Cien, Tohaku with me on my honeymoon to Japan this past January...no problems at all, so you should be fine. :) It's best if you carry them in a carryon bag til you get through security though cause it's a bit of a hassle if you have more than one bag with you. Once you get through, you can take them out and carry them on the plane. Tohaku sat with me the whole time, keeping me company and being helpful by holding my iPod as well. Hope you have a great trip and don't be surprise if the flight attendants compliment your doll on how cute he/she is. :D

    17. Wow, thanks for so much information everyone.

I guess it's pretty safe to say that I'll be okay.

Cassiel: Thanks for pointing that out. I'll look before I start a thread next time.

    18. When I traveled from Logan Airport in Boston to George Bush InterContinental in Houston, I just put Isolde in my small pink bag along with my purse and stuff and she was fine. I didn't even get her pulled out to be searched. I think the TSA just gets weird when you carry the doll out with you..U.U

If you're traveling outside of the country I don't know what to tell you, since I have never traveled out of the country with anything doll-related.

Good luck, and I hope traveling with your doll goes well!
