1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Travelling with your dolls: issues/ideas/etc. Part I

Aug 20, 2004

    1. We had a whole big terrorism scare about 9 months ago, when plans were found for the bombing of planes flying UK to US (and possibly return trips). It was actually during the time Hellsing365 was with us and was soon to go home, a nerve wracking thing for all.

So they're now very strict about hangluggage. 1 piece of carryon only, no liquids etc unless medicines basically, and certain items need to be carried in a clear sealable plastic bag. However I wouldn't expect it to be so bad flying out of Japan. Britian is a little security crazy at the moment.

    2. Hi everyone,

I wondered if any of you have ever traveled to another country with your doll. I am about to go to Japan and would like to take Hanako with me. I kinda have to take her with me. I'm flying from North Carolina to California for Anime Expo then straight to Japan from California. I could leave her with a friend but really don't want to.

First I was wondering, is it better to take her as a carry on or stash her in my bigger bags and check my bigger bags?

Second, are there any problems with customs I might have? Would bringing her along as a carry on become a problem flying from California to Japan? I've never flown to a foreign country so I'm really not sure of the specfics with customs. Esp. with things like dolls.

Thanks before hand for any help.

      :)

    3. I would definitely take her with my carry on....I've had some checked baggage come out in terrible shape, and my friend has has luggage lost.

    4. I would keep her with you. Baggage can get re-routed or lost. Customs should not be a problem, but it might be helpful to have her listed as incoming personal posessions. Then when you leave, she won't be treated as a new purchase.

    5. Thanks for the help... reading the other thread now....

Catwhiskers... when you say have her listed as incoming personal posessions what do you mean? You mean when I go in the country and i have to declare my posessions or what not? Sorry, I'm completely clueless to int'l travel.

    6. Some items such as Camera's have custom tax when re-entering the USA. So you get a sticker which lets them know that custom tax has already been paid. It is just a protection. I don't know if Dolls have that same sur-charge.

    7. Yeah, I was wondering about the DC Metro, since, with any luck, I'll have ordered/gotten my BJD before next year's Katsucon, and I just live a short ride away. (Someone let me hold their doll for a little bit when I was there...maybe it was you?)

Since I've read all of the horror stories in this thread about air travel, no way I'm tucking my boy into checked baggage. x3 He'll get pride-of-place in my backpack, right along with my laptop.

(Of course, mom's going to tell me not to bring him anyway. I haven't even told her I want one and I'm already rehearsing conversations about it. xDDDD;; )

As for checked baggage horror stories, might as well throw my hat in the ring. I was flying back from Paris via Frankfurt to DC, but the original flight to Frankfurt was delayed and we barely made the connection. Our baggage...didn't make it on the flight at all. We had to wait for about four days to get it to us. The airline was very nice about it, but even though we knew it hadn't been lost it was still nerve-wracking.

    8. am very glad i found this thread i need to find a way to carry all five of mine safely. sizes range from an sd, 3 msd's and a kkotmu. i hope to find a decent bag that will hold all my tech stuff too. laptop, ds, ipod ect and the power cords

      anyone know any suitable bags?

    9. freakin glitch. i hate double posting

    10. I know I'm kind of thread-repeating here..x_x'''
I don't mean to, really, mine is a little bit more specific?

You see on Tuesday I'm flying out to Newark, NJ with a friend and I want to bring my boy along with me.. [I'm so attached! I feel fearful leaving him home alone for a week. :[ ]
I don't have a bag/case to carry him in, so I'm wonder has anyone carried their dollies along in their arms onto the plane? [I'm also flying out of Tampa airport so if anyone has doll experiences there that would help!Same with flying out of Newark as well, since I'll be flying out of there on my way home.]
As for carry-on, I'm just going to have my messanger bag with my laptop, phone, ipod, DS lite and a few other neccessary goodies along with me.

I don't have anything else I'm planning on bringing.

Do you think I'll run into any complications?

    11. :] Thanks LMC.

    12. Well, I'm heading off to Mexico on Monday and Shiwoo is coming with me in my carry-on bag.
So I have a few questions:
Has anyone ever traveled with there kids on airplanes and did they get pass security alright?
What about on the airplane itself? Did you take your baby out and plunk them in your lap or did they stay in your bag for the flight?

    13. No problems whatsoever getting through security and I also had my metal stands in the bag I used as my carry on as well. I thought for sure, I'd have issues. I had them stay in the bag throughout the flight just to be safe so they don't get dirty, lose any accessories, or get manhandled by my neighbor had I gone to the washroom.

    14. I've never had a problem.

Though I think the security people are a little shocked when they see a body crammed into a bag, then they realize it's a doll *tee hee*

    15. I carried my bjd in a backpack on our last trip to Hawaii. Here is a pic of him at the airport as we waited to board the plane.

I had other stuff like magazines etc in the backpack as well. No problems getting through security either.
