1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Travelling with your dolls: issues/ideas/etc. Part I

Aug 20, 2004

    1. I took Shiwoo with me to Mexico last June.
He rode in my backpack with a face mask on. I took him out and he sat on my lap part of the way. And the maids in Mexico didn't steal him, lol.

Don't be afraid to take your dolls with you. =^w^=
It just makes the flight more fun. :)

    2. yah its fun hahaha, i am a male collector and i dont care how ppl look at me , i just dont care but i worry more on the custom.

any one of you got any problem coming back with your doll? like the custom officer ask you how much you buy this doll and try to ask you to pay tax.

but the doll with no box, how to tax? right?

    3. never had a problem in customs actually lol. the worst thing that has happened was when the customs officer asked if I had a passport for her (my girl) too...of course, he was joking..lol

    4. I plan on dragging my boy around with me as much as possible, and my family travels...A LOT. We fly to Iceland at least once a year to visit family...so...yeah it's hardcore at my house. ^^ My dad and I are especially big on travelling. I think I'll be fairly comfortable with it though, even though I technically don't have my doll ((until tomorrow night!)), I've been travelling all my life so I think I'll be fine!

    5. christmas??? HAZAR !!! YAY !!! WOOT !!!
      *sorry, of topic ^^!

    6. Did you make this trip all right? I would assume that the personal article issue is only if the flight is super packed. I have flown Air Canada, Provincial Airlines, and Canjet throughout Canada with personal articles that I am SURE broke the rules, but no one stopped me, ever. Not in tiny airports nor huge hubs. But I'd like to know if you tried it, and if you made it.

    7. LMAO!!! XD

    8. I love that. I fly a lot and want to take one of my girls with me and do a photo story with them. I just need to get a flight when there are empty seats so I can do that and get the photos.

    9. If you get the largest size suitcase that will fit under airline seats (check any airline's security info on their webpage), there will be plenty of room for your doll. They can come with wheels, too.
I've been using a suitcase from Lands End in the US, but I'm quite sure whatever suitcase manufacturer is closer to you will have something similar.

Wheels are important, because a suitcase packed with dolls gets heavy.

First put in a layer of doll cushions.

Well, ok, if you have one of the Som 80cm crowd, maybe not a good fit, but
My Hound doubles up his knees and sits formally the whole way. My Elf Doll Ryung sits as if she is in a chair.
Both of these are sideways/lieing down when the suitcase is laid flat for packing, and more like sitting when the suitcase is upright for dragging.

      C. 43, 30, and 16cm dolls get wrapped in their cushions and tucked where they fit, along with spare wigs, outfits, more cushions, my clothes (enough to at least change if any checked luggage is lost), etc. And an empty water bottle to fill once through security.

I haven't done international travelling, but I believe enough other people in this thread have, enough to reassure you.
But I've been all across the US with no problem.

My dolls haven't complained about their comfort being compromised yet. :D

I'll be doing it again this spring, to San Jose CA for Costume-Con 26, where my only problem will be fitting the costumes for dolls and self in any sort of luggage. :)

My carry-on luggage has never gathered a second glance, as it is so mundane onthe outside, and contains no safety hazards on the inside.

    10. so i took all three of my dolls to tahiti with me over x-mas. and no problems going through secruity till i got to l.a.

when lax security x-rayed my dolls. they came up as a liquid on the machines computer.:? i was like wtf? and they scanned them agian but it didn't come up. so who knows. but just a heads up.

    11. Bringing this thread back for a word of advice:

Regardless of your airline's carryon policy, DOUBLECHECK THE SIZE OF YOUR PLANE. I had a short connecting flight from Pittsburgh to Cincinnati this week, and thanks to the overhead bins being small I ended up having to pull both my dolls and my laptop out of my otherwise regulation carryon bag, because they insisted it wouldn't fit. They made me put it all under the seat for takeoff and landing, too (I bundled them in my coat so nothing happened to them). The SD carrier was long and narrow so it fit fine, but other carriers/suitcases might have issues on smaller planes.

    12. This is alot of help for me; thanks, you guys! <3 I'm heading to Disney World in Florida from Pennsylvania in April ((for spring break; its a marching band trip <3)), and I wanted to take my B&G Sky with me, but I wasn't too sure of how to go about it... It woulds like just getting a good bag and things to pad him with would be good enough

    13. Well I didn't try it, I got a backpack in Ueno(I was really worried about ochecking my girl, also a lot cheaper than a small suit case at the Airport if the carrier was to big) and put my Sofie in there for the trip.
Next time I fly I am going to try the carrier and see what happens out of curiosity.

    14. I don't know what I'm going to do next year when I go to Japan for January... I know on some parts we're only going to have our carry on... I hope I can work it out so that my Sprite can come with me.

    15. I have a 18" tall rolling carry-on case, and I fit all 5 of my dolls in it (2 MSDs & 3 Tinies) plus my laptop. I'm on vacation in Myrtle Beach right now (^_^) and I didn't have any trouble flying with them. I used that carry-on and my messenger bag, because the bag counts as a "purse". The only thing I got going through security was a amusingly funny "WTF" look from the person watching the X-ray screen.

    16. i'm flying on flybe saturday, i hope it's ok to take Giselle on carry on. but i have a lot of other things too. so i'm getting a case for my laptop and it's got an overnight part in so i think i could put Giselle in there too.

    17. I haven't traveled with a doll as big so I dont have any input but I like reading all the different ideas, thanks !

    18. Personally, I'm not comfortable travelling with my SD boy. He'll be getting a violin carrier next month, but even that might be enough comfort for long-distance travelling. I just worry that something will happen to him >_< And I feel much better knowing he's safe at home. For whatever reason however, I dont feel the same way about MSD's. They're smaller, so they're more portable I guess. A planned future MSD boy will probably become my travelling buddy lol.

    19. Actually, hm, I haven't bought any dolls yet, but I'd already thought of carrying.
I went to some person's site when I was looking the dolls up a bit, and I laughed my head off when someone sescribed Suiseiseki *Rozen Maiden* as a doll who likes breaking people's windows with samsonite luggage...
...and that gave me the idea.
I have a dragbag thing - the wheeley bag - a ladybug, from samsonite...
and it's HUGE. And I've traveled with it before, no problem.
So a Super Dollfie would fit in there no problem, Cushions and all.

      Now how's THAT for a solution? ^ ^
