1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Travelling with your dolls: issues/ideas/etc. Part I

Aug 20, 2004

    1. hmm has anyone travelled with a Dollshe carry bag? as a carry-on bag..
I just checked on Aircanada.com and the max size is 23 cm x 40 cm x 55 cm...the carry bag is way TOO big...o.O

    2. i brought 2 msds and 2 heads in a dod bag. wrapped my sweater around them for extra support..

    3. I know I've probably already said stuff about my trip last year to Japan, but I recommend using a standard carry on luggage to put your dolls in. I got through security check just fine with my MSD boy and then I took him out of the luggage to sit with me on the plane(just a little paranoid about the overhead compartment). Those carry on rolling luggage bags are really great and you can fit 3 msds and a yo-sd inside no problem. I haven't tried putting my two new sd boys in there, but I'll see. As long as you can fit them in there without going over the weigh limit(which I believe is 20 lbs) and fits within their dimenison guidelines(9x14x22in). Very paranoid about checked luggage, but depends on the flight...some let you have up to 50 lbs of checked luggage and I believe that is combined. Hope that helps. :)

    4. I love to bring Naomi everywhere with me, but I bring her in the cardboard box that she was shipped in from Volks and it is wearing out so fast. I found a cool trunk I want to carry her around in. It fits the style she has and it is actually pretty convienient for me. The only problem I have is that it is not long enough. Is is ok to curl up your doll for such daily traveling or would it like ruin them in some way?

    5. I think if you use the pillows she came with, it should be alright. Just make sure she's padded well. And if she has eyelashes or a really delicate faceup, you should probably use a face shield, too.

    6. Usually i hand carry my dolls~ its quite a nice experience with them onboard~
there was tis once at Kansai International Airport's departure hall~ i was handcarryin my Yo-sd Tanpopo~ at screenin hall~ the officer's saw my Tanpopo on the basket for the X-ray scan and purposely open the x-ray curtain on both sides to let the VIP pass~ XDD
      so nice of them~

    7. I don't think I would ever pack my doll in luggage. I have a carrying case coming for them so I think if I ever need to go to another country with them or go back to see my parents (In canada, which is far from England LOL) I would have them right in my lap, or in the bag right under the seat.

Maybe I am paranoid, and it's not just the money thing, but it is things that are precious that even if the doll was replaced right to the very perfect faceup it would not truely be the same. Maybe I look at this in a strange light. I'm a bit of an artsy fartsy though :))

    8. SO i'm going to Panama in a couple months, only for like a week, but I was wondering how safe it was to bring Jan with me?

Has anyone ever braught their dolls with them on vacation?
      Got stopped at customs?
Problems with leaving them in the hotel?

      OVERALL BAD EXPERIENCES?

Ack, now Im freaking myself out!
Just wondering about you guys bringing your dolls out ~

    9. I havn't had any bad experiences. Chrno has come with me to France, Mexico, and California. No problems. I was surprised I didn't get stopped at customs. if you only have one doll and enough arms, you could always just carry him with you on your arm, that'll make the whole, "BIG SUSPICIOUS BOX" thing less problematic for the security dudes. xD

    10. i have been considering this too. i was to afraid though during christmas time, and i was only going to new jersey and newyork

    11. I always bring Riku with me when I travel, so far so good. No one really seems to mind the dolls much, however you may get a question or two. If you do carry your doll under your arm through the airport, make sure it has something to protect it's face-up! *_*

    12. i do a lot of international travel and i always bring at least my big doll with me. I just take him as my carry on in his case (its a volks bag) which is just barely small enough for their regulations ;) they put him through the xray machine during the security stuff but thats it..though once I got asked if he had a passport (lmao)

also i've never had problems leaving him in hotel rooms. people very rarely know what he is and what he's worth so if they were going to take something I think they'd go after money, jewelry, documents...obviously valuable things..after all who cares about a doll? (I care obviously, just talking about the uninformed)

    13. I took Pele with me to Reno once (woot). It was fun to have her with me during the weekend, though I didn't take her out of the room until we left.. and then someone asked me why I was holding a Barbie doll *laugh*

    14. Im curious about this too. Since I am going on a trip this summer, and am going to be taking my Glyph with me, and maybe Rail.

Im curious as to whether anyone has had any problems taking them on the plane because of the S hooks?

    15. I was in Florida back in December for my kid brother's wedding, and I took my Shiwoo, Harumatsu, with me. (I'd also taken him and Teacup with me when I visited my in-laws in Birmingham for Christmas the year before-) We didn't have any airline troubles at all.

The one thing I was very wary of was leaving him in the hotel room... I didn't, if I could help it. I put him in my courier bag and took him with me when-ever I was going to be out.

There's a whole big thread here in GD about flying and dolls... It's probably on one of the first three or four pages, and it contains a lot of good information.

    16. I may be taking a job that requires a lot of travel, so whether or not to take one of them is definitly something to ponder. It's nice to see that there haven't been any mention so far of major problems. Also good to know that the volks bag fits regulations (if only barely XD)!

    17. Well, considering I just flew from Pittsburgh to Myrtle Beach with my crew of 2 MSDs and 3 Tinies... ^_^ They couldn't have a problem with the S-hooks, because they actually let me take a small pair of scissors (I wasn't sure about this, I was kinda testing them :o ) and knitting/crochet supplies with me in my carry-on. (metal knitting needles) I checked the TSA's website for the knitting/crochet stuff.
I had 4 of the dolls in my rolling carry-on with my laptop computer, and I had one of my tinies in a messenger bag. Since you're normally allowed 1 carry-on and 1 personal item. The worst thing I got was a funny "WTF?" look from the lady checking the x-ray machine. ^_^

    18. Well this is good to know. ^^ I dont want to have to take any of them appart, and they are certainly NOT going into a suitcase..x.x Iv seen how baghandlers handle bags and it isnt at all gentle.. x.x

    19. Good to know that travelling with dolls isn't a problem, given that my kids are going to meet their 'aunt' next month. :) Good thing I have MSDs and can put all four of them in my carryon!

    20. Sounds like fun. I would do that the next time I go on vacation :)
