Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Travelling with your dolls: issues/ideas/etc. Part I

Aug 20, 2004

    1. I bring my dolls on vacation all the time if I'm driving somewhere (for example, I just got through with a 700 mile drive and have two BJDs with me this time, one of which is a rare/limited girl. Last time I took this trip I had six BJDs along with me. lol.)

However... I'm too scared to take them on planes. I've had checked luggage destroyed more than once, and things in my carry-on luggage damaged by people shoving things in th overhead compartment to make them fit. Or kicking things placed by one's feet. I can't imagine if I'd had a doll with me at the time... it was bad enough when they broke my suitcases and $3 travel alarm clock...

    2. Once my first kid arrive, I'm planning on taking her with me all the time xD
Holidays may give you the chance to take some beautiful, different and amazing pictures of your dolls!

    3. i had a backpack with 2 MSDs and a puki in it (they basically took up the whole backpack) and did not get funny looks at the scan or anything. they didnt open the bag or ask me to do anything. this was UK <-> latvia

    4. I'm going to China for a week, on Sunday. And I still have not decided weather or not to bring my doll. (The mother says NO to the doll.)

And I'm hoping to bring my doll with me IF I do get to go on the Singapore to Dubai segment of the Queen Mary 2's World Cruise next year. I just hope I don't freak the customs authorities at the port here in Singapore and when I get to Dubai.

    5. I definitely plan too...I know there's one place in the mountains we go a lot that I won't have any qualms about. The house belongs to some family friends, and we go up there all the time for no reason. Since there isn't any cleaning staff up there, I don't have to worry about my girl getting stolen when I have to leave her.
I might have to be worried about grabby hands (younger siblings, but only one family who doesn't come up often has a kid still in elementary school.) I'll just explain exactly why people CANNOT touch my doll without my express permission the second we get there. And threaten anyone who messes her up with her price tag.

As for other vacations, I'll either put her in her case (and put a lock on that.), take her with me, or, if we're in a cold place, I'll put her in her case, then put that in the car.

Also, any doll who came on an airplane with me would be in my lap. I would NEVER risk getting one lost by an airline.

    6. I haven't brought any of my dolls on a plane yet, but I bring them on road trips with me. My DIM Honey went to Busch Gardens in Virginia and to Colonial Williamsburg. My TinyBear Mere-Mina went to the Baltimore Aquarium, and just this past weekend, I brought my B&G Sky to Philidelphia for the football game, but he stayed in the car during the game. No ticket for him.:sweat:lol:

When I go home for Christmas next week though, I plan to bring my big boy with me on the plane, as well as my tiny. I am also a nervous flier, and I think it would help to have Luke in my lap. Whether or not my parents find out about him.....that's another story!;)

Oh, and just because I love them: :treecookie:bellcookie:candycane:goldstar:hollyberry:gingerbreadman:dreidel:starcookie Yea! Happy Holidays!

    7. I took Rem on vacation via plane this summer. First part was in my luggage, where she was safely wrapped. Her elastics stretched a bit though because of how I laid her! Oops! (they're back to normal now though)
On the way back, she sat in my carry-on, and was fine =)

You have to remember that most dolls are transported by plane sometime in their 'lives', some by ship (which I actually find to be MORE dangerous for them), so as long as you pack them safely, they'll be fine!

Just be careful to not lose them.

While I was in the hotel, I left her sitting by the clock in our room while we were out, and she was fine. =) Didn't move an inch even when the cleaners came in. They were great about respecting our property (though I hope she didn't creep them out too much!) She had a little note in her hands saying 'hello, my name is Rem! Please be careful to not move me, and have a great day'. XD

    8. I took 2 SD, 2 MSD and 1 Yo on a Cruise last month. I packed them in my suitcase and when I watched the bag taker heave all the bags on a huge pallet, my heart sank. The bags did not get delivered to our cabin for about 5 hours and the entire time I felt like I was going to have a heart attack. I was having images of the doll's heads being crushed by the weight of all the bags. Thankfully they all were perfect, but on the way off the ship I carried all of them off with me. I was not about to try my luck a second time.

BTW- the Carnival Miracle has the best places to take themed pics of the dolls. Every room is decorated to in a different theme based on books and movies. It was so much fun.

    9. I've been on about two or three trips since I got into dolls (the biggest one being to Disney World). I just can't bring myself to take them with me... it's just so dangerous. I don't know what I'd do if something happened to them. I miss them when I'm gone, yes, but I know that they're safe and sound at home. It makes me smile knowing they're just waiting for me! :D

    10. Well I haven't gone on vacation in about ten years, but I'm trying to talk my girlfriend into going to florida next year. I would definately take my grl with me then. I will definately NOT take my girl when I go camping with girl scouts. Thats self explanitory I think ><

    11. Shin will be along with me for my train trip north this year. I just can't resist the photo op of having him along with me.

    12. I'm planning on going to London for Spring Break this year and I'm planning on bringing one, if not both of my dolls with me. I think it'll be a wonderful photo-op and my boy, Roderick, is supposed to be from London...so he gets to visit home and I get to do a little character research for him. ^_^;

I suppose a lot of things could go wrong, but I still figure I'm going to give it a shot, though I'll be bringing them in my carry-on.

    13. I took Kurai across the country to the west coast with her in my laptop bag (no laptop) she had her wig off and her face cover on. I wrapped her in my really soft fleecy pajama pants she she was in a sitting position. On the way there however, I took her out of her bag the second I passed through security, and I think that was much worse because I was afraid the entire time that I was going to scratch her face-up. On the way back however, she was in my bag the entire time, and the bag fit under the seat. It also saved me the cleanup after I arrived because when she was out she got filthy.

As for leaving her in hotels, when I checked in, one of the people working there asked is she was a super dollfie because his wife was showing him lots of pictures of them. That was just about the wierdest part. I left her on the desk in the room next to the phone for 2 days straight and she wasn't even touched once.

    14. I bring one doll on train trips all the time, I'd miss them otherwise. I'm too practised at leaving stuff on the train though, so I never take more than one! I have a padded yoga bag to transport them in and I wrap them securely in scarves with a face protector.

    15. I took Ailin(Dollzone Yuu) to Japan with me a few months ago, and everything went just fine. It was kind of a pain lugging his doll carrier around(I refused to check him in with my luggage), but it was worth it. I was so happy that I had brought him, and I will definitely be bringing a doll on the next trip that I go on.

    16. I have posted before but since the post I have totally changed not only my group but who I collect. In any case I tend now more then last year to take at least 1 doll on trips that are 2 days or more. Tohru has gone the most of my kids but others have had turns. My MSD only go. The SD go to meet ups or Conventions.

    17. I've been on two plane trips now and brought my dolls with me for both. The first time was to the Rockies and I brought Fleur, my mini girl, with me in my carry-on. The second time was to go to Orlando and brought both of my minis in my suitcase.

I haven't had any problems with customs, bag checkers or officials. The canadian ones were constnatly cracking jokes and asked me about my dolls.

'Miss, what do you have in your suitcase?'
      'huh?'
'Nella, they can see into your suitcase. They can see your girls.'
      'oh, those are my dolls!'
      'They're very cute'

      XD

    18. I bring my dolls on the plane all the time. On vacations, it might be distracting though, if I'm going with someone else, so I try to think about what I'm going to be doing there. <3

    19. I haven't traveled anywhere far but I do take my dolls with me everywhere I go. If I plan on leaving to another state, I'd definately bring my dolls!

    20. good u get to take ur kids to enjoy the destination plus take holiday pics... XD i brought my kid to US, UK, Japan, tour of europe.... was indeed very fun XD
