Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Travelling with your dolls: issues/ideas/etc. Part I

Aug 20, 2004

    1. Hehe, this thread is full of awesomness! Ive laughed quite a bit.

If I get my first doll home before we set off to Poland this summer I'll definitly take her with me, though, I dont expect some funny reactions at the airport since she's only a pukifee and not that big xD

    2. I'm usually traveling with my 3 children, so no one looks twice at me with dolls. Never had them scanned or inspected - probably due to my handful of children with me!

    3. I know I would!

    4. I definitely would. Think of all the photographic possibilities you'd miss out on if you wouldn't..! A change of scenery is always nice ^^

    5. I think you should! I've brought dolls along with me, and as long as they're wrapped up well and whatnot, they'll be fine. I love taking my dolls with me when I travel!!! Its not fair they have to stay home all day...

    6. Overall, I do not feel like taking them with me to vacation. However, I do think this is a good idea. Just have to be careful thought. I am always worry a lot about getting my doll damage and stolen.

    7. It depends on where I'm going. It'd have to be a place where I can leave them indoors and safe when/if I need to go out. I've taken my tinies with me on the family trip up North for Thanksgiving, where we stay in a very nice cabin. But I definitely would NOT take them tent camping with me.

    8. I would just because I wouldnt want him to feel lonely! But based on my own experience, I wasnt really able to take any pictures because I was always so alone xD my family dont understand the hobbie I guess, and since I hate doing since alone I didnt take any pictures : ( but some friend took her baby with her and took some great pictures! :) so I think you should :0

    9. I've only taken my boys on trips with me where I'd be staying with relatives or something. I wouldn't bring them somewhere just to let them sit in a hotel room .__.

    10. If there is a topic like this, delete this one? I haven't found one.

So, I've been super inactive for the past few months because of 1) school that I 2) just graduated from with my bachelors which resulted in 3) moving!

I only have one doll, and a few clothes, but I had made some furniture that I had made, like a chair and a bed. I had a box, that was marked, that I packed all of her things in, which seemed to be ok, but her bed was broken when I unpacked it. So it was trashed. My new apt is very very small, so her wardrobe was also trashed (which was really just a box with a bar in it that I made hangers for). I think I'm lucky my doll made it out alive. I moved her personally, and then stored her inside my armoire while the rest of the family helped move in other stuff.

Have you had to move with your dolls? Did you move out of state? Out of the country? What did you do with your dolls? :O

    11. I moved several of my large (SD-size) dolls and one of my MSDs to Japan, and then home again. We did NOT ship them ahead -- I waited until I was in Japan and then asked my parents to do the actual mailing, so I would be sure to be there to sign for them. I save the boxes most (if not all) of my dolls come in, and I still had the padding they came with, so we packed them in their original boxes with the original padding. I figured that was good enough to get them from Korea to the USA so it should work for going from the USA to Japan. We also wrapped their hands and feet in bubble wrap and put protective coverings over their faces. And THEN we put those boxes inside another box and shipped them FedEx. Personally, I have no idea what Canadian airports are like in terms of searching bags and security agents being respectful of requests to handle items with care, but I think it would be less stressful for you to ship them ahead or have the package ready to go and have someone ship the dolls to you after you arrive at your destination. Even without worrying about disrespectful security agents, I would be freaking out about things like my dolls getting banged around in my carry-on bag. And with limits on how much luggage each passenger can have I would imagine you have more important things to put in check-through suitcases, like your clothes. Of course if you're shipping things like clothes ahead you may prefer to pack your dolls and bring them with you as one of your pieces of luggage, but ultimately I think shipping them might be better and give you one last thing to worry about on the actual day of your move.

    12. I will make vacation in Japan and visit a friend. I am asing myself if I should take Naoko with me. I am traveling alone (never done that before ^^°) and I bet I will be nervous and feel lonley. But I still worry about customs >.< That's the only thing by now that makes me think I won't take Naoko with me :(

    13. I have taken my dolls with me on a lot of vacations and cons. Twice when I've done the IFDC convention in Las Vegas I've taken one of my big Iplehouse EID dolls. The 1st time was no problem. The 2nd time I took my Ashanti and broke a foot on her. I ordered a new one while I was there and it was waiting for me by the time I got back home. That cured me from taking large dolls out again. Also with the cost of luggage weight going up on flights, it doesn't pay to take large heavy dolls anymore. I do have 3 tinys that I always take with me as companion dolls or "Good Luck" dolls. One is my Volks Yo Kakeru a other is my LF Chiwoo Elf boy and the last is my Choco Puki Piki.

    14. I have always taken some kind of doll with me on vacations and last year I took 6 SD's to West Virginia(driving) But I am getting ready to go to Disney and Harry Potter Wizarding world so it will be the first time with a BJD on a plane. I just can't make up my mind who to take. I was thinking about taking my tiny boy because it would be so easy to carry him but one of the big kids would be better in photos and I think I would miss all the weird looks if I took a tiny!

    15. I travel with dolls, however it all depends on your mode of transportation and where you're going. If you're driving somewhere, then it's easier to transport multiple dolls in carriers. For flying, I take mine in a carry on, since I just don't trust the airports to handle luggage properly (especially on an expensive item like a doll). If you can't afford to lose/replace it, don't check it!

As for photography, you can do a lot of things with smaller and bigger dolls. With smaller ones, you can always use perspective to your advantage and make them look bigger than they are. :D

    16. As a lot of people have said it depends where im going. If its to another country I probably would. To Anime Central next year? Hell yeah im going to bring Eva. But if I'm going to vegas to visit my family i would probably leave her at home... or at her "aunts" house.

    17. Wow, this thread has been really helpful since I'm dreaming about taking a doll with me in the future when traveling. I just really like the idea of sitting with one in the lap in a plane. So coozy~ After reading lots of good experiences, I think I have musted up some courage to do it in the future now. Haha. :D
But It'd be so a nightmare if a doll of mine gets stopped at the airport and I lose it T.T

    18. This is the worst time to ask I'm sure, but is there any issues with taking dolls on a plane?
I'm leaving tomorrow to go to another state over (I live in the US) and I'm taking 3 of my dolls.
      I've got a few options;
Put all three underneath (which I really don't want to do)
Put two under and bring one on
Or being all three in a backpack

My only problem is weather or not I will have trouble with how paranoid airlines are here -.-"
I know it may seem stupid, but could I get crap for the hooks inside of them?
Whats the best way to get them through security?
Also, is there anything on them (like chemicals from face-ups) that could read badly in a scanner?

I am rly worried, but i rly want to take them...
Any help/advice would be AMAZING :)

    19. I took Ryuichi (Luts/CP Delf Shiwoo) and his boyfriend Tatsuha (MNM Gravitation Yuki Eiri head/Spiritdoll 2nd version Proud body) with me to a anime con last weekend.

I left Ryuichi in the room while I carried around Tatsuha Thurs and Fri. I saw another BJD caregiver wheeling her two big 'uns in a umbrella stroller! :D I asked her where did she buy it from since my arms were half-dead from carrying around Tatsuha for 12 hours! :sweat

Needless to say I made a beeline for the nearest Super Wal-Mart at 2am to get myself one! I was able to push both Tatsuha and Ryuichi around the rest of the weekend...with no more sore arms!

The moral of this story is, if you're going to walk around a anime con, or any other con for that matter, get a stroller of some kind!

Other than that, I usually am "carrying resin" when I go on vacation. I often can't have proper fun without them! ;)
