It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Treat dolls like children, friend, or simply just as an inanimate object?

Mar 28, 2011

    1. I treat mine like precious inanimate objects with the added bonus of being able to change their appearance.

    2. I used to treat my dolls like children but I don't anymore. I treat them like inmates now, I guess. Or maybe something in between, because I still love them very much and I'm worried to give them out of hands, I'm so afraid anything happens to them..

    3. Despite I love, truly love my dolls, I do not treat them like living beings. Naturally, It occurs sometimes, while gently brushing the wigs or putting some nice yet difficult clothes, I speak with them or laugh at some weird posing or funny hair, but normally they are more like art pieces which I handle with a lot of care.
Nevertheless, I do not criticize people who cherish their dolls as living creatures, afterall, attachment and feeling are very subjective areas.
      :)

    4. I treat them like very, very expensive and somewhat fragile but in other ways surprisingly durable collectables.

    5. I treat my dolls as inanimate objects. They do have personalities that I imagine, but I don't talk to them, or think of them as children.

    6. I don't talk to my doll, but I do give them names and general personality outlines.

    7. Since I base my dolls off of my characters i feel very attached to them so i do kinda treat them like children.

    8. I guess I consider them to be members of a huge family here. They are more than objects to me. I do talk to some of them and say hello to them when I come home sometimes.

    9. I love this response so much...it warms my heart! You must really love your boy Felicity.

    10. I treat mine as inanimate objetos but I talk about them as if they were people. I keep mine in a box, so I usually just take her out, play with her, change her clothes, take some pictures and then back into the box she goes because I'm afraid something might happen to her.

    11. Hmm...probably a combination. I do realise my dolls are inanimate and not "real", but I love them like little people, my little children. I love talking to them when I play with them. Plus, they seem to be in different moods at times.

    12. Honestly it depends on the situation. Sometimes I refer to all my dolls as babies, and sometimes just as dolls. Although sometimes I get angry at them like anyone else and ask them why they don't like the clothes/accessories I bought/made them.

    13. I see Alice, my Volks Suiseiseki, as one of my friends. Does anyone else feel this way? Just wondering. :)

    14. Nope. My dolls are toys... pretty objects that I value very highly, but in no way consider "friends" or anything like that.

    15. Yep, sorry, they are not my friends. I love them all dearly, but they are terrible friends. They just sit around and look pretty--but that's after I do everything for them: buy clothes, paint them, dress then, pose them, buy them furniture and props... And I do all the talking, they just sit there! I even take them places, but do they ever take me somewhere? No! I CAN tell them all my problems and they won't whine about TMI... but then, they won't say anything back, so maybe they aren't even listening! I'm afraid I require a bit more from a friend!!! :XD:

    16. I'll 3rd that and say no. I channel my creativity through them, but even as character goes, they are unaware of my existance.

    17. It's hard for me to see them as anything more than objects or a canvas. Particularly if I made everything in/on it. I'm not sure the term making friends was meant literally, ahaha;;
When it comes to friends, I need people I can do things with, not do things to. And I mean that in the cleanest way possible.

    18. For me, they're silent friends. I mean, of course they can't talk or whatever but you know sometimes, they just make you feel better after a long day. Either way, they do make us feel happier. :)

    19. Nope, not friends at all. Also not children or babies or family. They are 3-D, physical shells of my RP characters. The characters are human characters in their world, and not at all aware of me, there is no interaction at all. I do like to play with them, do things for them, even talk to them, but in no way do I feel they can return any of that. I usually call them "my crew".

    20. I think we tend to empathize with dolls more than other inanimate objects because they look like little people. But I treat them like things mostly, because that's what they are. I say "mostly" because I am careful with them, and I do sometimes talk to them, but it's just for fun.

I love my dolls and enjoy playing with them (dressing them, taking pics of them and writing stories), but I don't consider them to be my friends because they can't reciprocate with affection. If they were real people, they would probably find me boring. LOL!! In my head, I like to imagine they keep each other company so I don't have to all the time. And they often keep me from being lonely too. All I have to do is look at them and even just think about them.
