1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Trying to choose your next doll?

Jan 7, 2015

    1. If I think I really want a BJD, I put them on my wishlist. Then I keep going back and forth and look at the owner pictures for a couple of weeks. Sometimes it takes me a while to realize that I just like the idea of owning a certain sculpt and I wouldn't know what to do with it if I actually got it. I did purchase dolls on impulse before but now I'm trying to be more careful and plan ahead before buying one. My collection got out of control once so I try not to make the same mistake again. At the end, if I decide that I really like the doll, I start planning the purchase. If it's a LE that's hard to find and expensive, I usually keep looking out for a good deal while moving on to the next doll that is more readily available.

    2. It's so very hard to choose dolls. You have to ask yourself do you want a doll that can be restocked or do you want a limited edition doll. I also already have five so I'm constantly asking myself if I need the next one. (I always end up needing the next one though.) :)

    3. I would choose the doll you first fell in love with or the one you love the most

    4. I have a wishlist, when I find a doll I think I would like I pop them on the list and leave it a while. Today I had a look at my list and I looked at pictures of each doll and ended up removing one from the list! That works for me and keeps my spending in check...a bit haha.
I very occasionally make an impulse buy, I am human after all :)

    5. Good gosh. I have about three dream dolls on the marketplace right now that are tugging on my feelers. I have no idea which one I'll cave on next... honestly I need to reel it in a little! :sweat But, I made the mistake of starting a cast of characters, so I think the most integral of those will be next, and the long lived grails shall have to keep waiting!

    6. The next doll I want to get changes every few months, but it rarely a doll that isn't from my wishlist already, new releases don't usually grab me so strongly (though there have been a few that did and they went onto the wishlist).
Not having the money to buy even the cheapest of them (and also not having seen any of them in the MP for a while) helps give me time to think it over. I also think about how well they will work with my current doll and the one that works the best with her will probably end up being my next doll.

    7. I'm an impulse buyer sadly so I don't really plan my dolls :( I can choose a lot of dolls for my wishlist, but I never stick to it! I need to get better to sticking to my wishlist because I have such a massive list of dolls that I really want! I find that money is also a big factor in buying my dolls because I'll see a cheap doll I kinda like and the next thing I know, the doll is at my house and I can't bond with it :/ ugh, I need to get better at this!

    8. For a while I had all of my future dolls planned out, until I attended a doll meet and fell in love with a doll sculpt. Now it's all outta wack. After buying my second doll, I was planning on getting clothes, wig, eyes etc. for my next doll, which would be a Souldoll Joelle D but after going to the doll meet, I discovered that I prefer smaller dolls, and now my grail doll is a Soom Faery. Also I watched some YouTube reviews on some Hujoo sculpts and Now with my next paycheck I'm planning on getting a Hujoo Nano-Freya and a Nano-Rabi. After that I want to buy a MIO Pullip, after which I think I will buy the Souldoll. Unless I find a used Soom Faery, in which case I'm totally getting ASAP. Aghhh...
I guess it really depends on how much I want the doll.
I still have some dolls to sell, but I can't find a good place to sell them because they're MH dolls...

    9. This is very true for me as well. Also since I don't buy dolls with any character in mind, I tend to change my mind often. I will be infatuated with a doll for a while, then see some other doll that I like even better. I finally decided that I need to stop buying dolls for a while and concentrate on buying things to complete the dolls I alrady have. It's so hard, because there are so many temptations.

    10. I am not sure I am trying to buy my next doll. Usually the doll chooses me. At the moment, I have a number of floating heads and I am 'floating around' to find the right bodies for them. I will choose what I buy carefully, so this will just take time.

    11. My dolls start out as characters and I go looking for a sculpt that fits the personality. My Soom Cuprit, for example, is a wild elf character from a D&D campaign that I played for years. My Luts Minifee Elf Shiwoo is a character from a short story that my daughter wrote. I make clothes and jewelry for them to fit their personalities. I like to breath life into my dolls with a backstory. That being said, I do have a couple of dolls that I bought just because I thought they were beautiful and I figured I would give them a personality after I got them, but it hasn't happened yet. Sometimes you just appreciate the art, and don't worry about anything else, ya know?

    12. This is actually my current problem xD I think I know which one I want to start saving for next but I'm not 100% sure he's the one I want...so I'm still looking

    13. As a relative newcomer to the hobby, I'd like to think that my next doll will be the result of long and careful thought and research, not to mention looking out for special offers etc etc. The truth is that I will almost certainly fall head over heels with somebody, and will have bought before my brain can think "yes but ...". OK I admit it, I may be a bit weak willed.

    14. What i do when choosing for my next doll really depends on whether i already have a character set out for the doll and finding a suitable one that fits the image i have in my mind and the other way is browsing through doll sites randomly and stumbling upon a doll that i feel in love with instantly. So it really depends for me as i do not have like a confirmed way that i go about doing things

    15. I take my goals, overall story and financial situation in account when choosing my next doll. How many dolls do I want total? How will the doll I want fit into my story? How much money can I afford to spend on a doll any given moment (which is nil right now). I ask myself those questions when I'm planning my next purchase or even just browsing for fun.

    16. Umm im not sure if i have a method for picking one tbh, if they match my aesthetic and the price is not too bad then i just get the feeling like something is saying this is it, buy it

    17. I guess it depends.
If I have a doll who is a character from a defined world, I will tend to buy first the companions of that doll.
But if, like now, I have finished buying the main character of a certain world, I like to improvise and buy dolls I don't have that clear.

    18. Well, I can't get everything all at once... So I'm forced to choose. I usually put the dolls on my wishlist that are basics/standards/available longer on the back-burner and get the limiteds that will be hard to get later on first! It's hard to make choices, but having such a wealth of wonderful dolls to pick from is never really a BAD thing!!! :)

    19. For a while now I have only got dolls based on a character either and oc or non original. I find I bond much better and get more enjoyment out of them that way.

    20. I have a favourite company, which makes it a little 'easier' since I prioritize them to other companies. But if I have to choose, I'd say I look at the dolls I already have, think about how this new doll might fit in with the story - if yes press "buy", if no just wait and see. XD'
I tend to twist my storry a little to justify new dollies :D
