Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Undisclosed Modifications... has this happened to you?

Mar 10, 2007

    1. I bought a doll (whom I love!) from a seller (whom I also love!) and took her to a couple meets. At the last one, it was confirmed that she is indeed, "beauty green". It would've been nice to know, and would even have encouraged me to buy her more since green is my favorite color. I don't think the seller knew and don't hold it against her. However, when I went to dye her, all these scratches and sanded parts showed up. Would've been nice to know *that* for a doll I intended to dye from day one. Now they are super obvious and cause discoloration in the dye.. *pout* Good thing I love her, marlbelized coloring and all. :)

    2. Hmm... I've bought a head and will be getting a doll soon through the marketplace. I hadn't thought about sellers NOT mentioning damage and mods!

Isn't something like that grounds for asking for a refund? These are expensive items--but even if you're buying something cheap, you should know what you're getting. Is it really just one of the hazards of buying a pre-owned doll? That doesn't sound right to me! ... At least I'm aware of the possible problems with such sales, now! *_*

    3. I'm not sure that this would count as a modification or damage. I've seen threads complaining about both "Beauty Green" and "Scratches" in the resin surfaces. Luts doesn't refund for either of those things, and the seller shouldn't have to either.

That being said... My '03 Elf Lishe arrived with a paper white head and a fluorescent "Beauty Green" body. The color discrepancy bothered me greatly and I complained to the seller, since no such thing was mentioned in the description. Luckily she took the body back and I was able to find a decent color match for the head elsewhere.

I currently have a modded Luts BW Dreaming "ELF" El head on ebay... Someone asked me if he's green. I described his color to the best of my ability, but yes... it's a dicey proposition. Luckily I have other BW CP's on hand to compare him with! :-O

    4. This story breaks my heart. Hon... She was waiting for your REPLACEMENT to arrive. You sent her a perfect Nasia, she returned you a completely different Nasia with dodgy mods...

That is just absolutely awful. I hope this person is no longer on DOA...

    5. My friend's doll came "completely default"... except, we found out, she had modded feet. Modded into tabi by sanding out the second toe. Four toed dolly. Raw. Usually mods aren't a big deal, but if we don't know in advance the buyers can't get ready to change or mod the mods!

    6. Yeah I realized its not a mod this morning, but an undisclosed mod and undisclosed damage are both.... undisclosed and not good. it was my first doll purchase and I was so happy to find my dream doll I was a bit spastic... I went through all the reading feedback making sure all the items were there. making sure the faceup was default and all that... I kinda rushed the transaction XD Oh well.

Exactly, I did not notice the dent in the arm or the small dents where the S hook sits in the neck when the head is off for quite some time. I was just so excited I didn't think about the possibility of damage. Now when I buy something I inspect it when it gets here for any damage.

When I sell things (so far just japanese comics elsewhere & one pair of boots) I inspect every part of the item and give the buyer a description of every problem with it.

    7. Maybe I'm misreading, but are you saying the dents are a flaw from the previous owner? That's how Volks designs the necks, so the s-hook will remain firmly in place, it's not damage.

    8. Are you freakin' serious!? :o How could they forget to mention that their doll had minor amputations? Maybe they didn't know and the doll cut of her own toes to show her loyalty to a mob boss?

I think it would be nice if there was posted somplace what exactly qualifies as a modification. Buying a doll, attempting to carve it up with no forethought or experience, botching it, and calling it a "mod" simply doesn't fly. That is a damaged doll. There has to be some level of professionalism in the outcome to call something modded in a sales thread.*this makes me feel all ranty*

For my own sake, I hope that every single one of these incidents has generated negative feedback regarding the problem seller's lack of disclosure. I honestly would never buy from someone if I found they'd sent anyone a doll with missing toes, but if the problem isn't reported, how can I stear clear? :daisy

    9. o.o? Well when I take off Umeko's head there are a few dents in the neck where the s-hook is diging into the resin. If it was intentional I would assume there would only be 2. and there were more than two... a few more than that now because the pencil in the neck thing wasnt thought of when I first got her and decided to re string her ><;;

    10. Well I'm not sure how SD13 girl necks look exactly, but SD13 boys have notches put there by Volks, and they're on all my boys.

    11. but how many notches? I'll go pop off umekos head (I love saying that) and snap a pic to show you

    12. Ok so my dad ran off with the digital camera and my stringing too is missing thus the web cam pic. I assume if they were intentional there wouldent be so many. They all go into the resin a bit, not just a wavy edge on the inside. Boy this is hard to explain ><

    13. Hm unfortunately you're right, that does look like damage :| shame on that seller!

    14. heh some are from me >.> but Umeko got me back for it. i now have two large, red, poofy, "dents" in the palms on my hands... I want my head stringing tool back +glares at her cat+

    15. I am probably splitting hairs here, but I don't really think this kind of thing can be considered "damage" worth complaining about. Any resin doll body with any "age" to it has this. I've had a bazillion different dolls, so I think I'm qualified to judge here...

Now if there was a real crack or a glued repair... something that affected the structure or function of the neck. Yeah. That could be considered damage.

This sort of thing I think should count more as "normal wear".

      Raven

    16. Yes I agree but anything different than the way it was to begin with should be noted, the more details the better. Like if you are selling a camera and the wrist strap is slightly worn from "normal wear", you would mention it. When selling something to someone who does not have the chance to see it for them selves in person before buying it one should always point out the obvious wear.

    17. I've had my F-15 since 2005 and the only scratches he has are scratches on his body's MSC coating, he doesn't have any wear like this. All my other dolls are nearly perfect in this way too, except the ones I've bought used. It upsets me when one person's "mint condition" is my "heavily worn" and I still get charged for a mint price.

    18. If I bought ahead that was supposed to be unmodded and it came modded, unless I LOVED the mods done, I would ask for a refund. You're supposed to get waht you pay for, not get something sorta like what you paid for.

    19. There is actually a rule against that, and you can make some kind of complaint on ebay now... I'm not sure how it works, because I try not to use ebay cuz it pisses me off so much now.

I'm so sad reading everyone's posts, and I feel so bad that so many people have had so much trouble and bad experiences buying second hand :( there are so many good artists and people that describe dolls and goodies accurately and honestly when selling, and it really sucks that there are a few (or more than a few!) who skate on their reputation, or just flat out screw someone for whatever they can.

*hugs* to everyone who has been hurt or ripped off deliberately and :aheartbea to all the good sellers out there :)

    20. It is unfortunate, I mean, what is so hard about admiting/remembering mods?

For example, if I was selling my kids tomorrow (which I'm not) would this be acceptable for a description of mods?

Soom Namu: Completely sanded seams by amateur, slight nick on palm of left hand.

CP Juri 2006 Head: Seam on side of head lightly sanded, still partially visible.

Elfdoll K SS Head: Partially opened eyes, right eyelid has a small nick in right corner (Grr, I was sanding him about an hour ago, and I got a bit sloppy :sweat Not done yet, though.)

Would that be acceptable, or would there be more terms to mention or look out for? Just curious. :)

As for the inside neck wear, my Mikel already has a tiny bit of that, most of it was already there when I got him, I think. It's on the inside of the neck shaft, and not visible at all...I think it's a bit how it was molded. :sweat

Thanks, and here's to honesty in selling!
