It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Undisclosed Modifications... has this happened to you?

    1. yeah, well, there is supposed to be a rule against making other people pay your paypal fees too...*rolls eyes*

    2. Yes, I wish this would be enforced as a policy on DoA more, as I personally feel bad asking the seller to not include the fee in their price. I never ask for fees and it's even more of an insult when not only do I lose money as a seller, but I'm losing it as a buyer too.

    3. I refuse to do it. Give me a price, I will pay the price but don't expect me to pay your fees too. IF you want them covered, include it yourself. I especially hate when a seller wants you to not only pay the fees, but calculate them yourself! Gah! If you tell me a doll is $600 plus $23 shipping plus 4% paypal...youre getting $623, period.
      /end rant

    4. This thread makes me scared to step foot in the marketplace ever again! :...( Some of these horror stories are unbelievable.

    5. I wouldn't let these scare you from buying, just take them all in and try to inform yourself as much as possible before buying. I've had more good experiences in the marketplace than bad ones, and I don't regret my bad experiences since I learned from them. All of them happened when I was still new, and I think they helped me get situated in the hobby faster.

    6. Asking the buyer to pay fees is ILLEGAL and I think you can make a claim about this too, When I found this out I started including the fees in the price. I mean think about it, if you want to get a certain amount of money for something do the math so you know exactly how much to ask for it, don't DECEIVE the buyer by telling them it's $$$ + shipping AND 4% fees, it makes it seem deceitful and sneaky. So while they are trying to find something for a certain price, they end up paying more than they had intended to.

ALTHOUGH for group orders and things like that it is very understandable that they ask for it, because it would be unfair for them to swallow the paypal fees when they are trying to do others a favor and help them cut back on shipping expenses.
      That's my 2 cents :aheartbea

    7. I've been reading through this... I try to ALWAYS disclose ANY mods I make since I mod just about every doll that comes rolling through my door... well unless it's someone else's! XD

I was casting my dark grey doll tonight and I keep noticing pits and imperfections on him that I didn't catch before. And of course he has seam lines and bubbles around some of the joints from casting(I don't use a pressure pot or vacuum chamber to cast and they are predominantly on the INSIDE of the joint where they won't be seen). I sanded down the worst of his seams, but I didn't do all of them and he's slightly lighter where he was sanded(he's very dark grey, darker than the bambi croney? grey they released).

Also I occasionally get "birth marks" where the tint settles more than in another place and causes discolored strips of resin, sometimes darker, sometimes lighter and sometimes a completely different color. I have two company dolls that also have these birthmarks- but I sort of like that since it makes them different...

Would that be a sufficient enough description for you guys if you were to buy him? All the dolls are going to be like this and I don't want anyone going in and buying him then being disappointed that he's "imperfect" since he's an artist cast doll. There won't BE a "perfect" cast of him since I'm just one artist working on my own and have taught myself how to cast and sculpt.

if you want to see for yourself on the paper white version: http://g36.net/ocdesigns/photos/handmade/mar07_02.jpg but you can't really see anything but the larger seams from this distance. X3

I hope I'm not hijacking this thread, I just sort of want to cover my butt and know what other people think. X3 I'm really crafty with my own dolls and restringing them, modding them, painting them, ect so for people who are more "pick the doll out of the box and play or display" I'd be curious what they would think. And if those are too many imperfections for someone to want, I want to be able to make it CLEAR what the doll is like.

    8. >_>;; it seems kind of obvious to me that you would list everything that you've done/has happened to your doll D:

i customize ( or plan to ) all my dolls C_C
Ano has has his lower lip slightly sanded on both his heads, he also has slightly opened eye on his sleeping head, and the seams sanded
his body that s'up for sale now has had seams sanded and some damage on his neck from when the s-hook slipped through, and a nick in one of his calves ( was holding the foot elastic with a saftey pin, the resin wasnt thick enough to deal with the force, oops D: learned my lesson )

and schoo is a mess, i've hacked his ears to about 3/4 the original size, shaved his nose down to maybe 2/3 the width, worked on his lips a little, and he's still got eye mods to be done ( and that means reshaping his brow too )
he's definately not 'defualt' by any means anymore

i doupt i'll even sell any of my babies that i have so far, but if i do, i'm doing a full work up >_>; cause its understandable that while the person who did the modding might like the end result/asthetic, doesnt mean that everyone else who might be looking for that mold does

    9. Brought my juri head last year in the photos she looked perfect except for her ears being pierced a few times but i was fine with that. Anyway when she finally arrived home i discovered a lovely "burn" mark on her forhead looks like acetone thats done it but anyway the person had then decised to try and sand the mark away.........yea but only sanding in one place causing her forhead to be but higher on one side >.<. So im left with the damage, i dont even wont her any more an if i want to sell her ill lose money. Kinda put me off buying a doll second hand again really.

    10. the person that did this did it to other people too, and continues to sell on the board.......she discloses the mods now though. Someone else must have complained about a head. It was an ugly, poorly done set of mods, and she really should have complained.

    11. I agree. I have received some filthy dolls before. :doh

    12. Well, I adore adopting previously owned dolls. Since starting this madness last July I've gotten:

      * a fabulous boy body that had an undisclosed chip in his knee (which I disclosed when I swapped the doll recently)

      * a little girl who was reeking of ciggy-butt smoke and was utterly filthy. I'd been told she was filthy but had been cleaned up before this. Um. Sure. Oh yes and her stringing was so old and brittle that it broke almost immediately. Her feet had been swapped from hooks to something like string, and when IT broke it was a royal pain in the buttocks to do anything about. After a great deal of work she ended up being a beloved member of the family, but it was very frustrating.

      * a doll that I absolutely ADORE, who was the height of perfection in every way but one: she was so soaked in perfume that I immediately had a very bad allergic reaction. It was a long while before I could get the scent out of her wigs, clothing, etc even though I washed them carefully. Now this wasn't undisclosed *damage* or *mods* but it was dangerous. And I would never hold it against the seller, because most people are not even aware of strong scents, so it probably never occurred to her. But boy... if I ever sell more dolls it's a must to admit that I have two cats, one of whom is the Dander Queene. You know?

Fortunately enough, all of my other transactions with dolls have been perfect to date. And I love modding/sanding/general mucking about with the dolls, thus making it fun for me to overcome the challenge. But... yeah, there are a couple of mine that will NEVER be sold because I've modded them ("slight mods done with hacksaw") :D

Just... show it like it is. Be upfront about it. Some of us like a challenge, others don't. It's much easier to judge the price of the doll if you have a good idea of its state.

    13. I'm glad you asked this Batchix because I have wondered the same thing with things I make for sale (though I haven;t attempted resin casting yet). I don't know how many of the little bubbles or pits would bother someone who doesn't want to have to do any tinkering with a doll they just bought. Back in the day a good number of people sculpted and cast their own garage kits for sale in small batches, and there was the understanding that the casts might not be as flawless as those from a company. For myself personally I wouldn't be concerned about it since most things are fixable if they bother you that much.

In general, I totally agree with those who have said they can't imagine not disclosing a modification or damage to potential buyers.

    14. Eeek... this sounds awful... O_o
The dollie with the amputated toe... *in shock* :o

Yes, I agree. Every mod or "flaw" should be disclosed when someone is selling a doll or doll parts. I can only imagine how it feels to get something really different to what you're expecting to get... oh wait, it's like the Soom eyes!! *laughs* XD ahem! anyway...

Whenever I'm selling, I'm more than willing to take more pictures or answer any questions that anyone interested might have, even if they're not interested in buying but just curious or notice something different from their dolls.

And fortunately, my experiences buying dolls second-hand have been rather good. My first boy was adopted from a lovely DoAer, and he was perfect, so were the other boys I got from the marketplace. I did receive a doll once that was all filthy from head to toe though, even the wig had to be washed TWICE *_*

But other than that... I feel lucky and grateful cause the sellers I bought from were great and answered to every question and PM.

I hope these stories don't make anyone not want to buy from the marketplace! There are some excellent sellers out there! :daisy

    15. :o Wow... not disclosing mods is horrible! I try my best to describe every single little thing that happened to the doll since it arrived at my house to the time I decide to sell it. The only time I was kind of disappointed is when a seller sold me a doll that she told me was in mint condition with no imperfections... but actually she came with several stains on her body and face :| no biggie since I can clean them off, but I specifically asked if there was any staining and the seller said there wasn't.

    16. No I think your concerns belong here... I think if I were to start making BJD to sell, I'd just put in the description somewhere for the buyer to be aware that I don't have the same factory equipment as the big companies... so there may be casting flaws or bubbles or whatnot... and then I'd list my standards for pieces that are considered "First Quality".

I like how you sell "factory seconds" at cheaper prices too. I think that's cool for people who don't have as much money or want something to mod. It also keeps stuff out of the garbage ^_^

    17. Yes, it's true.
Coming from the antique doll world I was used to so much worse than Dollfies can offer... but yes. Many dolls between 6months and however many years old now arrive just filthy!!

I had a Unoss arrive once that was black from head to toe from dirty hands and black clothes. She cleaned up nicely though... When a doll has been around for years I assume certain types of wear and factor it in to my expectations... Unless a doll has been left in its box its whole life, I'd assume normal-to-heavy wear (ie dirt, s-hook nicks, some scratches and staining). It's not pretty, but something to be aware of.

Yes... it's interesting to ponder the differences between "normal wear" and actual damage (modifications notwithstanding).

    18. The funny thing is the mods on that Hugo SW head such as the nose being sanded down to soften the sharp tip and the bottom lip sanded down so that he's not pouting quite as much was exactly what I was going to do with Hugo MN I want. XD

If the seller told me she'd modded the head in that manner I would not have cared at all even if it was on an SW instead of an MN. I'd have been even more excited. I wouldn't have to do anything! But no, she kept on saying she didn't do anything with it except to do something about the ears. *shakes head*

I did not like that the eyes, neck and parts of the inside of the head were enlarged. The neck was changed so that it could accomodate a Dollshe body. Since I'm quite loud about my extreme dislike of big eyed, twig-bodied boys on most doll forums the seller might have noticed. But *shrugs* I'm probably making myself out to be more important than I really am. Still, yes, those neck and eye mods would have put the breaks on my plans to purchase. Eh, all's done is done. The good news is that SW is now with someone who actually wants the head on a thin, thin body. :D

Apparently the person who sold the head to me originally does not post so she can't sell here. She just contacted me literally days before the new marketplace rules was put up. We ended up having to finish the transaction off of the boards due to the new restrictions.

    19. I wouldn't worry about small imperfections in your dolls. I think it's to be expected from small studios. However, some people don't put a lot of realistic thought into their expectations... As long as you disclose anything that could be perceived as a flaw, your butt is covered. People will like and buy them, you know you have a market.;)

      Disclosure is the issue.

I have received one filthy doll body. I honestly don't think the person I bought the body from knew how dirty he was, she bought him that way, kept him in the box he arrived in, never used the body and a year later, sold it. This was all dirt from the original owner. The joints were dark and greasy and there was a layer of grime over him from head to toe. I gave him a bath and wiped down all of his pieces with a Magic Eraser but had to do it five of six times, it was as if the dirt kept seeping out of his resin. It reminded me of nicotine.:ablah: I know who the original owner is, and I can safely say they no longer buy and sell on DoA.

    20. Speaking of shipping, I do cover the fees in either the doll price or the shipping, but if it's more, no big deal. (I get charged either way.) But for a group order, no problem paying them.

As for flaws...what all is considered a flaw? If I sold Sorren, would I need to post I as a non-professional opened his eyes a little more so they may be a little uneven but other than that he is mint? Should one disclose they sanded seams, or tried too?
