It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. USA Volks Store?...It might happen!

Feb 21, 2005

    1. Considering the Dollfie gathering was in Texas, maybe that is where they will put it? LA or NY would be more likely though.

      - Therese

    2. hmm US store huh, most likly it will be NYC but I want it to be in BALTIMORE XD ahahahaha I can got to otakon and volks at the same time when I go out of town lol

    3. i was just thinking the same thing. i would still love my girls even if they were more popular in the states and just because they would be over here doesn't mean more people will buy them. i know alot of people that wont shell out that kind of cash for a doll.

Also even though anime is even more popular here i still like it just as much even though i haven't found a new series that ive wanted to watch religiously since full metal alchemist ended (can't wait til the movie this summer though).

    4. THANK. YOU.

      100% agreed.

If you only get into hobbies because "no one else is into them" and you think this someohow makes you more entitled or something, you have issues. Just my two cents.

    5. You shouldn't like something just because it's rare but because you like the way it looks, is made, etc. Your interest in things shouldn't rise or fall by just the popularity factor of it.

I still love Barbies (esp. the new fashion fever line, amg. haha!) and Amerian Girls. *shrugs*

    6. I agree with monkeycancer too....I love my dolls & can't see any reason why I'd love them less if they were available in the US. I would love to see a store here - preferrably in Boston  BUT anywhere East would be great

    7. agreed. and I hope they have the store in New York.

    8. If I'm wrong, please don't kill me..... *hides*

When my mom's friend went to Volks, she did ask about becoming a Volks distributor, which Volks told her that they are planning on opening their own branch here (therefore denying her?) in California, and I think she said somewhere in Los Angeles.

Now, this is from a Volks branch store clerk, and I"m not even sure if this is correct. Let's put it down as a possible rumor, eh? (and don't nobody come and kill me if they decided to open elsewhere!!!! *grabs Yue and goes into hiding*)

    9. Ooh, I hope they open it in southern California. Like LA. *fingers crossed*

And seriously, them opening a store here doesn't mean that BJDs are going to fly into the mainstream. There are a lot of regular collector doll stores as it is, yet I don't see everyone and their mother dragging a Himstedt through their local Wal*Mart. And they cost just as much, if not more, than a Volks SD.

    10. Well, in a limited way Frank is a Volks shop in the USA. I bet if they do open a shop it will be in FL....so all you lucky Floridians (such a strange word) win out once again.

James, I think this will be a mixed blessing for them. I hope it works out well. ^^

Thanks for the good news..... a short lay over in FL on the way to NY or LA isn't out of the question...^^

    11. OMG! FMA ended!! I've only been able to catch bits and pieces of it so I have no idea what's going on. Must be a short series. I must admit I'm hooked on that Roy Mustang fellow :D .

OK! on topic, since I'm in MI of course I favor it being in NY but I'd still probably only mailorder(I'm so not a traveler :( ) but then again if I could get my sister to go with me(who loves to travel) I'd probably go just for the experience.

    12. With dolls as expensive as these I don't think we'll be seeing them in the hands of 5 year olds...or the casual collector...you really have to think twice (maybe more  ) before spending several hundreds of dollars on a doll. I think they'll still be special, the dolls will still be handmade in Japan, they'll just be more easily accessible to those of us who love them! It will probably be a year or two more likely before any of this happens.

    13. New York New York New York! Then I could GO!!!

From what I hear from everyone who has visited etc., Volks is really dedicated to preserving the special quality of their dolls. As far as I understand it, it's their worst nightmare to be on a shelf sold in mass quantities at FAO or something. I'd assume that if they do get space in the US, they will continue operating the same way they do in Japan, which is very, very cool. It would be so awesome. Fingers crossed for new york!!

    14. Little Tokyo in Los Angeles would be an ideal place for a Volks boutique!

I'm not gonna get excited about this until we get a final word though.

    15. I really, honestly and truly hope this does NOT happen for several reasons:

1 - If a Volks store opens here in the US then the dolls could quite possible (and very likely) become status symbols for celebrities, increasing their popularity and decreasing their value (at least to me)

2 - If they opened here there is a distinct possibility that they would lose money and have to close before too long - Who, besides the close-knit doll community we already are would pay over 500.00+ for a DOLL? I could see a few stuck-up families buying them for their young children, but the child either abusing them or leaving them on a shelf forever...

3 - If, in fact, they did make money, you KNOW all the competition that would jump on the bandwagon - places like Wal-Mart and Target suddenly carrying cheaply made BJDs with no thought of the reason behind the dolls would drive smaller companies like Volks out of business...

I guess what I'd really like to see is a Volks booth at the larger Doll shows and really large Anime conventions like AnimeExpo and Otakon selling the pre-made dolls and accessories etc... Yeah, there might not be a FCS, but I think it would be a better idea than a store.

*feel free to pounce on me and my opinions ^_~*

    16. Ladies, ladies, ladies.... Enough about the popularity thing... A Volks Store in the US may mean...

FCS WITHOUT INSANELY INSANE PRICES AND GOING TO JAPAN TO PICK IT UP!!

And besides that, no $20 shipping fees for just a pair of shoes!! And frankly, those of you who are worried about BJD being "Discovered", I highly doubt it. Sure, it might be a few bucks off the price.... But it's STILL big bucks. Average people aren't ready to drop $100, much less up to $1000 on a doll. And as influential as a celebrity or what-have you might be.... People are still not gonna drop that much, no matter how popular they get. And they're still unique... =3 And think of it this way... >> << if the fad goes out, all the beautiful, almost-mint-condition kids there'll be on Ebay!!

    17. Ack! Could you imagine Paris Hilton with one??? :barf

    18. Not a Paris fan, but- I think she'd see them as stupid cause she can't wear them. :/ and she already has her lil chiuaua, why does she need a doll?

I'm actually suprised that with all this "Japan-crazy" phase Gwen Stefani is going through, she didn't see BJDs... It seems like the kinda thing she'd go for.

    19. BJDs most likely wouldn't ever be a status symbol for celebrities because they don't cost enough... $600-$1000 for people like that is chump change.

I agree with the sentiments of "if you stop liking them because other people like them, then how much could you really have liked them to begin with?"

The only people I see looking up from what they're doing for this would be actual doll collectors and anime fans.... and I say Kudos to any American doll collector who wants to get into BJDs... and as far as the anime fans go, I think if you're willing to go all out to create cosplay outfits for your doll, then that's love right there. Those kinds of things take time and effort and aren't completed by people who don't care.

Plus, like someone said, the people who buy them and then realize they don't want them... will end up listing their dolls on ebay, and that only works out better for us!

The only legetamite complaint to me is the one of Volks losing money. I too would hope it wouldn't be enough to cause them any serious financial trouble... but, even financially I think they'd be fine. Like someone mentioned, Volks doesn't JUST make Dollfies, they make tons of other product that their store could sell... and, just like the Doll and Hobby shop in Florida, I'm sure a VAST amount of their business would be done online.

So I say huzzah to Volks in the US!

    20. I'm not sure about it...
      good fr you! XD
It is far away from me anyway XD
But if they really do I may visit USA someday and visit the stores.. o.o
