1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Volks SDGou - Speculation and Discussion!

Oct 23, 2011

    1. I admit it's becoming more competitive with so many new doll companies nowadays. But I think Volks still make their changes slowly and never quickly or suddenly drastically. And even so, when they come out with new things there are always going to be people who are not used to it and do not like the change.

I do not feel that they are behind the times at all and I find it hard to swallow when someone said so. Keep coming out with all these new heads is already innovative in itself (and they come out with many new sculpts each year mind you, and holding all these dolpas do take up a lot of their times too on top of it).

    2. Indeed, while Hypermaniac made the first "tall boy" at 67cm, Dollshe made the first 70cm and Volks (on top of making the first ABJD as we know them) made the first muscle male body with the SD16, whose jointing is based on their SD Cute line. The SD17 came out in Spring 2007 which puts developement even earlier. Still well ahead of all the other dolls that strongly resemble it. They were ahead of the trend and they are coming back to revisit it.

    3. Can you link to that blog, Anthony? I can't see any info about SDgou on the Volks member blog.

66-67ish would be perfect for me, so I selfishly hope that's what it is. Just not much shorter than my M-line . . . :sweat

    4. It's impressive sculpting, certainly, but that muscular body type just isn't my thing - regardless of company, size, or even for humans  I'm sure he'll be very popular, though. I know plenty enjoy that "hunky" body type, but I like lanky and boyish looks. Some of my boys have pretty defined musculature (SD17 Williams, LoongSoul's 74cm body) but it's the lean, wiry sort. More like a swimmer or fencer than a guy who pumps iron. ;) I'm going to the Dolpa in December, and was curious as to what'd be released - I was hoping for perhaps a pretty new SD17, but it'll be easier on my wallet this way. And my nerves, for that matter - first Dolpa and I've never done a Volks lottery. Maybe there'll be a cute MSD or Yo for me to try for. Good luck to everyone who wants to get this guy! Oh man, I bet he'll weigh a ton... ;D

    5. THIS!!!!! Well put!

    6. I'm very confused...I like this body but those hands are really big!!!! Have to see the whole doll and face to give my opinion. I wonder if nobody here in the board has seen personally that add and asked for more info. If so, please share it with us :-)

    7. Tokyo boys T T I think the body will be 70cm, boys need grow up!!

    8. Oooo....must keep an eye out for this one....LOL.

    9. I'm trying to imagine the manly Volks molds on this body. A Hijikata? Or someone even more masculine than we've seen yet from Volks?

He doesn't appear to have a torso joint? I'm so curious~ He looks to be a big man who will put the hurt on the bank account, I better start saving now in case he's too sexy to resist OTL

    10. This new body look so great. I think i will buy one when he is release on DP...

    11. I guess I wouldn't count that because they didn't continue innovating in that direction. The never released more SD16 boys instead falling back on the SD13. When I first saw the SD17 I don't remember going 'OMG! Original!' so I'm trying to remember if there were other companies with that sort of streamlined muscled body at the time... It seems like there probably were. And I admit, I'm going off pictures of the SD17 having never seen one in person.

That's part of the problem too. 'Out of site out of mind'. There are so many other companies with amazing muscle boys (if your looking for that sort of thing) that are all easier to buy than any of the Volks bodies. So I forget what they've done and when because I never see the dolls aside from photo shoots from owners.

Volks quality remains singular to be sure, and their face sculpts are amazing, but they haven't come out with a really original body or jointing system in a long time. The last jointing system that made me sit up and go "wow" was the MiniFee/Littlefee/Puki Puki line.

As nice as the SDGou is sure to be it's not as though its the only ripped boy on the market. Plus it'll be so limited that very few will ever be able to get one. SDGr bodies fetch $1000 or more without a head and they've been on the market for a few years now.

But no doubt he'll be the latest grail fetching $3000+ on Y!J

    12. I like mature male dolls so I like what I see of this new body so far. I am surprised that Volks would produce such a sexy body because they have never produced much in the way of sexy dolls or clothes in comparison to Soom and Iplehouse. My credit card is not safe because I love the quality of the Volks bodies.

    13. Argh but how tall will he be!? I'm hoping that he would be somewhere between 65cm and 67cm, but not quite 70cm because then he'd be towering over all the SD-sized dolls. :O That's probably too much to ask for...

    14. My sentiments exactly! I am hoping for a 65-67cm but a 70cm will immed turn my whole SD17 crew ukes!

Not having the same fit as SD17 will also throw me off track as that will mean a whole new wardrobe. Still need more info and pics!

    15. I'm so glad someone else has said this. I keep staring at the photo and wondering if it is just my eyes or does he truly have not a single torso joint? Or maybe it's hidden under the line of his pants at the hips? I don't see how it's under the pectoral line unless the shadow is hiding it (please tell me my eye sight isn't that bad!).

    16. But that was specifically because the first 70cm DollZone boy was a recast of the SD16 body. I'm sure they would have release a few guys with that body type for the other story lines if that hadn't happened.

I'm betting/hoping that they keep the SDGou's height the same as the SD17. It would make sense for them to keep him in a close enough clothing size so that they can do an SDGou/SD17 the way they do SDGr/SD13.

    17. You got it, just PMed you with it;)

    18. Okay, here's a translation of what the person said who attended Cool Kyoto on the blog The Beautiful Doll sent me the link to.

"A Tokyo Boy's Story SD will be go on sale at Dolpa 26 *clap clap*.
      And one more announcement.
This time, yet another newest and greatest SD will be born and carve his way into the SD history. His name is 'Gou'. (Note: I'm sure there will be separate sculpt names, the writer's just being dramatic.)

Don't you think he's kind of skinny-macho? I wonder what other special features he'll have?

They're planning to ask for applications from monitors again. The details will apparently be in the next News."

That leaves things just vague enough for me to not be sure if these two things are related, i.e., I don't know if the SDGou will be the Tokyo Boys Story release. If they're not even started on sending the bodies out to monitors yet, I'm not sure they'd have time to get a Dolpa release together O_O.

As for the torso joint, I feel like I can juuuust barely see one on the right side of his chest.

ETA: His right. Our left. :sweat :sweat :sweat

    19. The Dollzone recasting debacle had a lot to do with that. Between this and the recast of the Kid Delf, DZ was really fortunate to have salvaged any reputation whatsoever. And Volks was understandably gun-shy after it, they more or less 'retired' the SD16 body. I don't think that could really be construed as lack of innovation or falling back, especially since they subsequently restyled and made the SD17 body as well as the SDGr. (Seeing an SD17 body in person is a must. When I got my Williams, the body blew me away, it's so elegant~.)

I'm not sure where you're shopping that a Graffiti body is in the $1000 range? :? Careful shopping netted me one at around $650 off YJ, even with deputy fees and shipping. The body is also an option in FCS, which makes it more widely available (and now in white and sunlight skin!!).

Time will tell if the SDGou brings a large aftermarket price. But, like anything limited, those that want it will chase it, and those that don't won't. :daisy

    20. Thanks for the translation timid! Ooh, so there's a slight possibility that this new SDGou hunk isn't related to the Tokyo Boys story? The plot thickens! When I saw the teaser picture it seemed to fit the style of the story line and I just assumed that they were related. But hey! I'm not about to complain if it means double the fun. ^_~ (Although my wallet might. Eeek!)
