1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Volks Super Dollfie Midi Discussion part 1

Feb 7, 2013

    1. Hello, all! I just put in an order for my first volks doll, a SDM-F-40! I’ve been googling and searching to see where I can find measurements for the doll so I could commission some clothes for her, but I can’t seem to find anything.

Would someone be able to take general measurements (e.g; head circumference, bust size, waist size, arm length, etc) of their SDM? Thank you so much in advance!

    2. I really want a boy F-35 with that revival makeup but it’s so hard to choose the skin colour!!!! Is there any really good detailed comparison for fair, white and tan???

Also is tan and sunlight skin the same thing or what the difference is between those two?

    3. @asatou "Tan" is indeed the new name for sunlight (source link). (Normal skin is also now known as "Fair", Shadow is "Bronze" and Ebony is "Amber".)
As for comparisons of the different FCS skintones, I like to look at the Super Dollfie Instagram, where you can sometimes click the left and right arrows to see the same head sculpt in different colours. Here's an example (I couldn't find one for the F-35, sadly). You can also trawl the sdm_f_35 tag on instagram for owner pics (here's one of a sunlight/tan boy).

@keseren Congrats on your new incoming girl! I believe SDM measurements are very very similar to the MSD measurements available on the DOA wiki, but I can take measurements of my girl for you in the next few days if you like. Let me know exactly what measurements you need!

    4. I've been a long time lurker in this thread, but I finally got an SDM girl of my own recently. She's being repainted currently, but I was able to bring home an F-33 and her teeth are just the cutest! No idea that this was a sculpt with visible teeth.

What are the chances that Volks may do a special re-release of the Four Sisters SDM during the LA Dolpa this year? One can hope, right?

    5. @DemonMiko It's just speculation, but I'd actually think there's a pretty high chance for that for a few reasons: they've come out between the last LA Dolpa & this one, they're a new version of an obviously popular sculpt, Volks is focusing on re-releases and older designs for this year in general... if they couple them with the Yo Dai & Mako that came out last year that's a whole set for release, too. Easy to add something else if they've got special plans later this year, too... ;)

Volks does trend a little bigger in its US releases so maybe we'll be getting something else instead. Looking over other recent releases... I doubt it'd be the Dormitory boys (still pretty recent but they've already had multiple releases) or the Versailles dolls (for licensing reasons). Lucia & Mia or Date & Tsunenaga are both possible, though those are both pretty heavily "Japanese" -styled dolls and Volks also doesn't usually release those directly here.

      ...tl;dr I think it's definitely possible!

    6. @ekala - Thanks for responding! I really do hope that we get some more information concerning what they'll possibly bring to LA Dolpa.

I believe that at the last event, I think they introduced the Four Sisters SDM or DSD and with this year being a big anniversary year, I'm hopeful that we get some more Four Sisters and whatnot. My timeline may be off though since I normally collect SD and up.

But it's always rough to leave it to speculation and think of the "what-ifs" and whether I should spend monies now (and pay second hand prices) or wait for the event and see.

    7. I think it’s unlikely the midi 4 sisters will make a big appearance at Dolpa this time. Yes they were recently released for the anniversary, but they took forever to sell out on the international site and didn’t seem to be very popular in the US preorder.
They might have one each available along with a few other limiteds (they did this at a US Dolpa several years ago).
As for a larger scale release I suspect they’d go with something more popular and more likely to sell.

    8. I didn't realize that. At the time, I was on a self imposed doll semi-break. I guess it would make more sense then, if the girls weren't so popular, that Volks may only issue them as special models or oneoffs from here on out and focus more on better sellers.

    9. I was amazed at how little interest there seemed to be when they were released - they started getting popular around the time they sold out on the international site. I think a lot of otherwise interested collectors just didn't know about the release for various reasons or couldn't justify it with the other releases going on at the same time.

    10. I keep thinking... how likely is F-35 to be released again in the future later if I can't afford to get it right now... ;_; Is it easy to get it from Japan in Tenshi no Sato??? I think it's also available in Sumika and Mado now too... I want it so much but ahhhhhh the budget... and also picking the skin colour is so hard... >_<

    11. @asatou F-35 has been available through the online FCS before and could be available again, but there's no guarantee. It is available at any Sumika, though tan's still only available at Sato. You'd have to find a proxy to get you one.

    12. Thanks so much for the info about the tan one being available only at sato! I think if I cave in, it will probably be a normal skin one even though I really like the white and tan one too!

    13. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a SDM Nono, I've been wanting Volks to make it for ages. Since they did midi 4 sisters recently, Nono must not be far off :eusa_pray

    14. @Renka SDM Nono would be wonderful! ♥ Nono is my favourite.

    15. I have my first Midi coming! I've been searching high and low for a Mako, I missed one on Mandarake a few days ago, and just now another one popped up so I grabbed her! I'm so excited, she'll be a welcome change to my little family. All of my girls look rather bored in the face, while Mako looks so happy and wondrous to me. I think I'm going with a long, strawberry blonde straight wig for her and some greenish blue eyes.

I do have one worry though- her photo on Mandarake makes it look like she might have some hot glue overflowing into her lower waterline, just a little bit but it's there. Does anyone know if this can be removed without damaging her faceup? I suppose I jumped on her too soon, probably should have looked into this before buying her lol. I assume it should just be a matter of peeling it off before I put in some new eyes, but any tips will be welcome.

    16. @lunar-dream304 i recommend popping her head into the freezer overnight! it will shrink the glue and make it easier to pull off. there is a very small chance that it could crack the eyes if they are made of glass though.

edit: also congratulations! mako is such a sweetie! i am weak for dolls with a little bit of their teeth showing!

    17. @lunar-dream304 Congrats!! Mako is a cutie. Make sure to share pics! I know we've never had issues getting hot glue out with just a little bit of finagling, but a lot of people recommend the freezer method if you're having any problems.

    18. Thank you! I figured this would be the method needed. I's just a tiny bit of glue it looks like, but i'd definitely like to remove it without damaging her faceup! The eyes will be no big deal if I break them, I have some BF eyes I was thinking of using or I planned on getting some Mako (...lol) eyes for her!

I'll definitely give it a try! Hopefully it's mostly on the eyes and not her waterline. Thank you!

    19. My Mako is here! I'm always shocked at DHL's shipping, it took her less than two days to get here! The only downside is that her wig isn't here yet, so she gets to be bald for now lol.

Super rough photo I took from my desk, but she's adorable so oh well lol.

Though honestly I think I might regret buying her wig before I saw her in-person, my original plan was to give her a super long, pin straight strawberry blonde wig with a side part but I'm not sure if that will work for her now. A light red or reddish brown might be more flattering, with layers and waves rather than pin straight.

I really love the SDM body! It's so sturdy and graceful.

Her stock is gorgeous, I'm a little sad that she's missing her camisole but the bloomers and top are adorable.
