Waist vs Underbust Joint?

Oct 24, 2024

    1. Yes, this exactly :3nodding:
My preference is two, absolutely. to the point where I am tempted to mod even DollsTown 's Elf Body myself to add a joint. Maybe one day after retirement :whee:

    2. Personally my preference is both like Bimongs Narae, I think it offers a nice range of motion while looking aesthetically pleasing.

If I have to pick one I’d prefer an underbust joint because the stomach is one of my favourite areas of sculpting and I don’t particularly enjoy the lines being interrupted by a joint even if that joint allows for more realistic posing. I’d probably even go for a one part torso if they were more common as I don’t particularly do a lot of posing with my dolls.

    3. Yes. Both. Gimme. Put in them joints. Make that doll shimmy like a snake.
If it's a choice between the two, under bust every time. I have very few single-piece-torso bodies. They are beautiful. I don't like them the way I don't like single-joint knees. I'm all about my dolls twisting in bizarre positions (she says, knowing full well everyone just hangs out on shelves). It's the principle of the thing.

    4. RBBM

:cheer:cheer:cheer:cheeryes indeedy @MaleficentMrsofEvil , add me to the school of "the more joints the merrier" as well!!!
( Even if they just stand/sit there due to time constraints, it IS the principle of the thing, absolutely.)

    5. For me, it's not about where the joint is, but how intelligently it's made. For my girls, there are bodies that work great (DT17 ver. I, Bimong Narae 58), but there are also bodies that are bad (Granado nuevo) - I like a three-piece torso, but in the case of the Granado girl, they are not well-made joints. If I'm going to talk about two-piece torsos, my old Supia body is excellent. Her joint is just below the ribs and it works. I think the breast joint is more a matter of aesthetics, but not function and it need a second joint in the hips. I like my dolls to move naturally. It doesn't matter how many joints she has, they have to work. I like to shoot stories and I need natural movements. The ability to bend their knees to chin, lie on their stomach, twist and bend their torso at the same time etc.

    6. Add me to Team Ribcage for posing. Although I wouldn't say no to a ribcage+low-hip joint (like FL MNF). Don't really have anything too much against underbust joints except that too often it's not a "smooth" option - i.e., there's often a visible space or horizontal gap between the bust section and the next torso part that's very disconcerting to the nude beauty of the body. (It's how I feel about elbow double joint "peanuts" that are so large that the forearm top and upper arm bottom are forever vertically spaced apart.)

I've found with only waist joints on the dolls I've gotten to handle, that there isn't enough functionality with just that joint. So yeah, Team Ribcage!

    7. I like under bustline most of the time. If it's executed well and the doll doesn't lose mobility.
Most of my dolls with this sit and pose fine.

But, have one that can't sit properly. He either has to lean back or bend forward. I didn't realize I was sacrificing mobility for aesthetics when I got the doll. I wish there was a way to fix it to make him just sit normally.

I do find the chest/bust line more pleasing, but I don't don't think it's worth sacrificing mobility for.

    8. For me ribcage/lower stomach is the best, underbust is the second best and functional for me and lower/ waist joint is like me in very high humidity weather stiff and not able to move properly.

    9. Ribcage or three parts have my preference, or none for huge tattoos purpose. It depends what I want to do with the doll. (I recently discovered that I could switch bodies to take photos when the doll had to bend more than what its body would allowed. It changed my life XD )

    10. I've tried a bunch of different MSD girl bodies so far, so that's what I'm comparing. Under-bust joint only doesn't do it for me in terms of posing the doll naturally, but if combined with the low waist joint in a three-part torso, it's much better. But, if I had to have only one in my doll, I would definitely choose the rib-cage joint as others have said, as it allows for a fair amount of natural movement.

    11. I much prefer ribcage joints, and don't currently have any dolls with waist joints in my collection as I'm not really a fan of the aesthetics. It's not that I would never own one, I just haven't enjoyed the look of any dolls on a 3-part torso for my own collection as of yet. I really do want dolls to have the ribcage joint though and would prefer all of mine to have it.

    12. Underbust 100%. The only dolls I will buy that are not underbust is Volks. Its such a deal breaker for me because it looks so weird when its not underbust. If its not underbust then a single torso like Luts delf is fine. Other wise I wont buy it. Sucks because I like a lot of LoongSoul sculpts but the chest joint :,)

    13. I need a waist joint more than an underbust joint because if my doll can’t sit with good posture it urks me.

    14. I don't own any with waist joints, only underbust and ribcage. I like underbust the best aesthetically, especially if the doll is shirtless, but I like ribcage the best for more natural looking posing.
