1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Want to buy a doll but all are SOLD OUT

Jan 13, 2015

    1. As many have already said, Don't buy Recasts! Art theft is NOT ok.

If you can't find the doll try the marketplace and see if someone has the doll that you want. If you can't find the whole doll try getting the head. You can then order the body at a later date. There is sometimes a color difference in different batches of resin but if you are looking for a doll you are simply having no luck finding otherwise it can be a good option. I am sorry that you are having so much trouble finding your first doll but hey the hunt can be half the fun! Good luck with your search!

    2. Let's not change the path of the discussion though.

I see it as a very simple thing. I am a customer, I want to buy an item, in this case a doll which can be a very personal item.
I look at websites, various companies and literally 75-80% of their offered products are ''sold out''.

This causes a frustration, as I am basically forced to buy a doll that isn't sold out, but then it's not my dream doll or even close to it.
I'd buy an available doll if it was a bit closer to what I am looking for. My wishes aren't really that big and crazy.

So if you guys have any idea of a company that sells a doll matching or closely resembling following features:

      - 40-45 cm
      - good string system
      - eyes that aren't half closed/closed
      - boy
      - youthful, yet not a 'kid'
      - somewhat of a fresh expression if possible

That would be all my wishes in a doll. I personally don't think that's something crazy, but like I said, I've been searching for weeks now and all the doll I find are discontinued or sold out. What other options do I have? :O

Thanks for the tip to buy a head and body seperately! I shall look into that :)
At the beginning the hunt was fun! Now it's getting annoying lol. I keep finding dolls where I am like ''OMG I want that one, that's perfect!!'' and then I scroll down and ''sold out'' hits me in the face.

    3. Proxima, once you've settled into the forum and have reached the quantity of posts where you can access the Marketplace, then you can keep an eye out for older sculpts that may come up there.

But be warned - if you think searching "for weeks" is too much frustration, you'll be in for a shock. Searches for a specific older sculpt can take months, or in some cases, years!

You might check the Wiki for a full list of all the dozens and dozens of doll companies and makers out there, and check a lot of the smaller companies for their new sculpts. Your criteria aren't that narrow that it would eliminate every current doll out there! Have you also checked the dealer sites in Europe, where they handle a number of companies and only offer currently available dolls?

    4. Waiting and Patience are two things you have to do/be if you go with the BJD Hobby. like a lot people said, some companies have various sale periodes. Iplehouse offer Dolls via Doll Choice if you can't wait till February it isn't our fault. You can take the waiting time for searching your dream doll or you can take the time and think about if you really want this one Doll you was looking for because sometimes it isn't enough just to say "OMG I want that Doll" and press the buy button if DC is open you can buy the Doll you were looking for, if you still want it.

    5. Yup I've been in touch with ThinkPink, the dutch agent for a lot of doll companies. Even visited their physic store, got to talk to the owner and all that. Learned quite a lot! I could pre-order a doll I saw on their website, but it takes up to maybe 1 year for it to be finally delivered to me. So I decided to look around more, looking at other companies too because 1 year is a bit crazy long for a standard doll, as I didn't add anything special or custom.

    6. Check out the company itself. Sometimes, what dealers do is hold off on sending orders to companies until they have enough orders to offset the shipping costs to them. That can build in an extra 3 or months, especially if you've just missed an order they sent. The smaller companies (and some big ones - depends on the popularity of a particular sculpt) usually have more like a 1-3 month delay. You can check out the Waiting Rooms section here and get a good idea of various companies' intervals from order to ship dates.

    7. Seconding Hobbywhelmed. Also, when dealing with tiny shops like mine, dolls could often be listed as 'sold out', because we only sell small batches at a time :). I know that many, like me hire casting services to do production, which means that dolls have to be offered as a 'pre-order' and once there are enough sales, the order is sent.

    8. I think for my first doll I changed my mind about fifty times. I ended up getting my boy from a different company then I had originally wanted. I fell madly in love with a sculpt based on the website's pictures and then looking at some owner pics here realized he wasn't for me. I ended up checking out several smaller companies and some dealer pages and found the company I eventually ordered from. So yeah it can take awhile but it is so much more satisfying when you finally find the "one".

Also keep in mind that doll companies release new sculpts from time to time and you might find that a new sculpt is more to your liking then any dolls available now. So waiting is annoying but so worth it in the end. The last thing you want is to order your dream doll and have him show up and be all wrong.

    9.
    10. These might also fit your parameters: Impldoll http://www.impldoll.com/category.php?id=64 or Granado http://doll-granado.com/terra.

Another comment on the "sold out thing-- it can also be the shopping cart software they're using. Some cart software only gives a choice of buy it now vs. sold out. Some companies with ordering periods will show an item as sold out, but it will be available again when the ordering period opens.

    11. I almost always miss out on the dolls I want :pout:

    12. I got into this hobby right at it's beginning, and I still missed dolls because the bjd community itself was so small that it was hard to get info about doll makers in Korea.

To land a dream doll second hand takes patience, but if it's the doll you want, you'll find that patience, set you money aside, and stalk the Marketplace (once you have access) until it comes to you. There is not a single sold out doll that hasn't come to the second hand market at some point. I have a few hard to find dream dolls, one I landed third-hand three months after looking, another I landed a single week after putting up a WTB in the Marketplace, and another I had to search Y!J and bump my WTB for over a year before I found him. SO when I hear people say "I can never find doll X", I can only assume they haven't really tried yet. >__>

    13. Patience is indeed required in this hobby. I've waited a year for the delivery of a standard doll body, I've given up/moved on/suddenly been surprised by dream dolls years later, or in one instance waited seven years for someone to sculpt a body that matched what I wanted for a particular doll.
The desire for instant gratification will only lead to frustration here. But you know what's even more frustrating? Trying to find info on an older sold out doll when the company has removed it from their website!

    14. Proxima, General Discussion threads need to remain general. If you would like to find out more about Illusion Spirit for your personal shopping needs, please visit the Illusion Spirit discussion thread in the Larger Dolls discussion. You can read other member reviews of the 62cm body and ask owners how they feel about the quality of the company in that thread.

    15. Alright gotcha. Thanks for the heads up!

    16. See, that did not take so long. He is a bit taller than you mentioned wanting but 62cm is a nice size. Every doll has it's fans so no one can tell you what is the best doll FOR YOU. Research the doll company by joining it's forum thread and see if folks have pictures of their own version of the doll you like. Sometimes the same doll looks completely different with different face up and outfit, wig etc. If you buy the blank doll, you will need to decide if you want to face him up yourself or have a pro do it and he may look quite different than the company face up, etc.
