It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Warm Bodies

Feb 14, 2010

    1. This, and also the idea of a Warm Body for a bjd crosses into the Uncanny Valley for me. My brain thinks that since it's not alive, it shouldn't have body heat, and crossing that line would disturb me somehow.

    2. It's a doll, not a person or animal. I expect my cat to be warm when I put her on my lap; I expect my doll to be stiff and cold. If they were to suddenly switch off I would freak out.

    3. Realdoll (Don't look up unless over 18) owners typically use heated blankets. Just like most people will occasionally take their dolls out in the sunlight... I imagine warming your doll up for a minute every so often on a low setting heated blanket wouldn't be harmful... after all many of these dolls have survived summer temps MUCH higher than that!

    4. I think that if we are not careful, we will have TOO many realisms to these dolls, and it could chase away alot of the hobbyists. I know that there are those reborn dolls, which totally creep me out. they have mechanisms that you can add to them to create the appearance of breathing, a heartbeat, and a human body warmth. I know there was one i saw that the jaw in the thing would even move in it's 'sleep', making it look like a baby that was trying to suck a bottle in it's sleep. NO THANK YOU. lol
I think ive already heard about a BJD that has a heart-beat mechanism, and now a warmer. I don't think i'd like much more realism past the look LOL

    5. I run pretty hot and had my BJD straddling my leg while I futzed around with her wig. I must admit, that it was both pleasant and odd,*_* when I noticed how much she had warmed up. This is also one of those subjects that I am surprised to see so many people chiming in on. The dolls always have one more surprise for me.

I must also agree with comicbookartistboi, just how real do we want dolls. I have plenty of adult situations and problems. I love BJD for the child like pleasures they bring.

    6. YOU are your dolls heater, get hugging! =3

    7. I agree with Sicamour XD

My Elliot is always pretty warm and cuddly. : > Body warmth is the best source of heat.

    8. I just don't run very hot. I'm not a good snuggler, I guess, and am stingey with my body heat! I love having a warm cat on my lap, but the occasional grabing my knee with thier claws to rearange themselves can be painful. I'm also a big fan of my heated blanket and clothes fresh out of the drier, so....

    9. ...its hot here. Really, horribly stinking, sticky hot. If my doll was hot as well, I'd never touch it ;_;

    10. Personally, I think it would be an awesome thing in the winter (like now!)!
I get cold easily, and always welcome the cat to my lap, but there are times when she just doesn't want the attention, so it would be great to just flip a hidden switch and feel a tiny bit of warmth from one of the dolls. :)
I remember the SoulDoll heartbeat thing! I wanted one so bad, but didn't have the money. Plus, I think it was just in the Hye? I'm not into the girls. The concept creeps my husband out, but I think it's cool. :)
But then again, I really love the brains in the IdEalian too.
So, I'm odd. I can live with that. ;)

    11. interesting topic really! and that doll-warmer wouldn't have to be made by companies it can be self-made too in my opinion. If I had a doll I'd totally try it out!

    12. Interesting -- I hadn't thought about that before. Honestly, it doesn't bother me, and they warm up pretty fast if I'm holding one up against me.

    13. i'd have to say no to this one, seeing as how electric blankets can malfunction and burn you pretty freakin fast, i'd be too paranoid about a doll warmer malfunctioning and hurting my doll before i had a chance to get her out or even know it happened.

I'm relatively sure heat is bad for yellowing too. and if not it can cause a ton of other problems i've read about on the boards.

    14. This! This so much!
I think a warm doll would actually freak me out- I don't like the idea of something that should be inanimate feeling as though it's alive.... plus, I feel like that sort of thing would definitely be bad for resin...

    15. I wouldn't like body heat... I like the cold feel of my dolls' resin. It's nice when it gets really hot here. :)

    16. This hearkens back to those baby dolls from the 80s and 90s that were kind of a rubber and worked like a hot water bottle. You filled them up with warm water so they would feel like a warm sleeping baby. The effect was not all that entertaining to me as a little girl... feeling the heat slowly leech out of the representation of a child is a bit unnerving. That and they were kind of bendy in ways that babies are not.

I like to keep my dolls and hot water bottles separate.

    17. This! yeah, having the heat slowly leech out would be what would totally creep me out. yikes, it's like your doll slowly dying :(

    18. I can see the appeal to some people, but it isn't for me. I'm not much of a cuddler though, either, unless it is my fiance or a puppy. :)

    19. I wouldnt want my doll to be warm, I get that from my girlfriend and my cats :)

    20. I personally like the feel of the cold resin, and how it warms up when you cuddle with them. ^^
